Hi gang… excited to watch this one. Kevin’s story is incredible.
Best Canadian player to never to play in the NHL.
Great Interview with Terry Harper.
What a great interview!!! Terry Harper is a very special
Love the premise of this show! Well done
Thanks Peter . You were great as a Hab in1971 also , against the great Tony O !
Well done to all involved
Greqt interview. But you have Peter as a HOFer in the description. He's not.
Just stumbled across this video. I wanted to express my complements to Mr. Paikin on his book “the life”. An excellent preparation for any person holding ambitions of entering politics. I have given a few copies to budding politicians - many who have gone on to entering The Life. As for Mr. Dowbiggin (the elder) I’ve chatted briefly with him in person and online a few times over the years and we reminisced about the days of Ted Teeven - a true pioneer of talk radio. Bruce should be recognized as a hero in bringing justice and respect to the NHL players who were subjugated in the early days. I admire his courage. All the very very best.
2 thumbs up!
Tim Ryan always did a great job regardless of sport. Too bad he never got to work with Fox’s Tim Ryan.
Without question, Tim Ryan ranks as perhaps the most versatile and most underrated broadcaster of the last fifty years. Charlie Jones was the equivalent for NBC. Ryan announced hockey, boxing, football (college and professional), college basketball (not certain about professional), equestrian, tennis, skiing at the Olympics, the Tour De France, and so much more. I wish I had been able to hear and see more of him, but I was born in the mid '70's. NFL football had much more regionalized coverage during the '80's. CBS put him with the Bears often. I know the focus was primarily hockey and time limited; however, I wish he had mentioned Irv Cross. They were NFL broadcast partners, for a year I believe; Irv passed not long ago. I've listened to some of their games here (Yes, I admit I to it). They were a great combination. It's worth noting that while Ryan and Brian relished being a three-member team, Ryan criticizes three-man booths in his book quite harshly. Anyway, I am glad to have found someone who believes he stands out among sports broadcasters.
0:54 best NBC Sports theme music ever.
Love these comments from Brian and Tiger. Berube is of the same mindset. Core 4 no more.
Great interview, NBC’s coverage during that time was top notch, remember it well.

Agreed. Gave so much to the sport that he loved. Deserves to be in the HHOF.
Wow Barry Holobush sure would like to take a look at your collections. Love that. Once Roger Naples dropped me off at the Sports Museum and I couldn't have enough
So nice to hear from true Bruins history guys. I have all your books guys and love your work. Thank you all
One of my favorite songs “Cowards don’t play hockey”! Also great to see Evgeni Kuznetsov, an old friend.
Terrific info, very insightful. Frank Salive worked at Windsor Raceway for many years along his way into the Horse Racing HOF !
Thank you
Really exceptional work. It is difficult finding information about the unofficial junior tournaments and I thought this was fascinating! Thank you for posting this excellent piece of hockey history.
Cool photos and video snippets.
Thank You
Excellent interview with Jerry Hack. I grew up in Saskatchewan and played a few years of senior hockey when I was in midget. Really enjoyed his book and it really captured the time & place for me.
Read what former Leafs President Ken Dryden has to say about the late 70s Leafs in his book, The Game. Perhaps it’s the 56 year old drought of not even being in the Finals that makes a book like this appealing. In my opinion, that Leafs team was good but not great and would not have won a Cup over the next few seasons if kept together. I do like and have the utmost respect for Gord Stellick and this host
Mr McFarlane is a treasure.
Not only was Tim a terrific a hockey broadcaster, his work as a boxing announcer with Gil Clancy was excellent.
Watching this I’m transformed back to an 8 year old and couldn’t get enough hockey. NBC broadcasts were outstanding. Loved those Showdown Competitions also.
The leafs were only twelve games over .500 that year and it was Mike Palmateer that saved their bacon against the Islanders.
My Dad and I loved these guys in game of the week. My high school years then. Golden years. and peter puck.
THIS IS FANTASTIC.....I cannot believe I found this. For you hockey purists', this is priceless. Love it. Thank you for posting.
Lifelong Islanders fan here, I have to give that leafs team credit, they totally outplayed us in that quarterfinal series
Great Timing! I just started watching the 1978 playoff series against the NY Islnaders on RUclips during spring break. I watched it when I was a kid and it was the first series that I vividly remembered. Great stuff ... I'll try check out this book too!
Totally agree with comments around the 20 minute mark ... NHL Expansion drafts were completely watered down by the time the Washington Capitals entered the league. WHA and all the teams didn't leave any high level NHL talent available. It would have been interesting to see the Montreal Canadiens' farm club (Nova Scotia Voyageurs) compete against the Cap's initial club. Honestly, the Capitals might have been close to being the 3rd or 4th best club in the AHL.
Thank you for this!!
Great book. The author Randi is very knowledgeable about goalies
They also used to have Howie Meeker between periods. An all-Canadian TV crew to teach us dumb Americans about hockey. Ronnie Schell did do the voice of Peter Puck, and he was American. Probably best remembered for playing Gomer Pyle's friend on that lousy TV show.
Great interview the host let them do the talking.
Two of the finest in the hockey world ..fortunate to to have Tim a our broadcaster in Oakland ..met Brian thru my friend Russ Ramsay ..
100% on Cowboy Bill Cowley. It is a shame how rarely his name ever gets mentioned when folks discuss the Bruins 100 years
Great stuff guys. Always enjoy hearing about some of the great Boston Bruins history from some of the very best
☀️ P r o m o S M
Very Interesting re 'The Gardens' Marshall
Bruce won't remember this, but I had a tough time personally that year, affected my play, Bruce would call me from time to time to meet for lunch or dinner, he really went out of his way for me, I was and still am really grateful.

First class individual, and should be in the Hockey Hall of Fame!
