As i understand it, these shepherds were the ones who tended sheep that were sold and used at the temple in Jerusalem. They were more likely to give a witness to priests etc that the heard the angels speak of the promise of God. Not your average shepherds.

while honey symbolizes the sweetness and abundance of God’s Word, the process of obtaining it often comes with challenges and risks. This mirrors a spiritual reality. The desire to “reach in and get the honey for yourself” could reflect a longing to grasp God’s wisdom, promises, or blessings directly. Yet, just as the honey is protected by the hive-and by extension, the queen-God’s wisdom and blessings are not always easily accessible. They require reverence, patience, and the right approach. The dangers, such as the risk of being attacked by bees, symbolize the spiritual pitfalls of approaching God’s Word without preparation, humility, or proper understanding. If we seek God’s blessings for selfish reasons or attempt to take shortcuts, we might face consequences, much like someone recklessly raiding a hive. At the same time, the effort to reach the honey is worthwhile. It reminds us that God’s Word and blessings often come through trials, persistence, and a willingness to approach Him with respect and obedience. The journey to the “honey” of God’s truth deepens our faith and reliance on Him. This imagery beautifully reflects the tension between the sweetness of God’s promises and the reverence required to approach His holiness. It’s a humbling and profound perspective!
