Germany's Diamond Filled Crater - Nördlinger Ries - #OddWorld
Просмотров 10 тыс.3 года назад
The Nördlinger Ries is a unique so-called rampart crater, the only one found (so far) on Earth. The impact of the Ries asteroid created billions (presumably) of tiny diamonds in one very violent event. The ejecta from the impact fell back down to earth in a large circle around the impact site, creating a kind of shelf or lobe. This is called the rampart. In hindsight I don't think I did a good ...

    To appreciate the various forts in the U.S.A., get a copy of the National Park Service book "Seacoast Fortifications of the United States." Fortifications were built according to the school of design common to the time. The star fort, whose greatest exponent was Vauban, was the current design when the new nation began to fortify its coastline. By the time of the Civil War, the polygonal structure as seen in Fort Sumpter had taken precedence. Fort Wood, a star fort built to guard New York harbor and rendered obsolete by advances made in cannons, was filled in to form the base for the Statue of Liberty.

  • @Eye_Exist
    @Eye_Exist 8 месяцев назад

    the star forts with "islands" outside the main star structure most likely weren't defensive structures, because the islands a) form a visual obstacle to the defender upon evacuation, which the attacker can use to advance towards the fort in its cover, which is the exact opposite of what these forts were supposed to do, and b) are terribly difficult to man and evacuate.

    • @LeonardoFSI
      @LeonardoFSI 7 месяцев назад

      @Eye_Exist No, You are the one challenging the general accepted understanding of how these defensive fortifications work, despite literature having survived yto this day. As a result, the burden of proof falls upon you to provide historical evidence of how these outworks were ineffective.. since you are the one challenging the established narrative. Example of sieges where Ravelins were present and proved their effectiveness are for example: Vienna, Ostende, Candia, Breda, La Rochelle to just name a few. The siege of Candia is the second longest siege in known history, having lasted 21 years, and the fortress had Ravelins, which are the outworks you described as ineffective. That by itself should be a strong indicator towards their value.

      @Eye_Exist 7 месяцев назад

      @@LeonardoFSI so in your school truth is chosen by the amount of believers. thanks for the invitation but i'm not applying. not once did i say these structures were never used for defense by anyone. probably someone who was too primitive to deconstruct the visual obstacles from the pre-existing buildings was primitive enough to use them as forts as well. battles can be fought anywhere, it does not indicate the constructor, time of construction or its initial purpose.

    • @LeonardoFSI
      @LeonardoFSI 7 месяцев назад

      @Eye_Exist primitive? These are 16th and 17th centuries structures! In the era of gunpowder! And no, they were purpose built. And likewise, I agree we have nothing more to say to each other. They got the materials (aka plain old dirt) from the ditch. The ditch they were digging a couple meters next to them. They just use some lads with shovels and wheelbarrows to move earth where the engineer (who was educated in a specialized school for this) wanted them to move it. The water is just groundwater which would naturally fill up the ditch. And there already was a massive brick industry in place for centuries for things like housing. Stop overcomplicating things and underestimating people just like you who lived before you.

    Come on buddy. I’m not buying what you’re selling. I’ve looked into the star forts and the architecture accompanying them. No way did the people that could create architecture like they build and not be smart enough to come up with weapons more powerful than cap and ball percussion weapons. You’re repeating what someone taught you that doesn’t know shit from apple butter. But if you looked into what they’re teaching ask yourself does that make any sense to ya? The people smart enough to build these forts and the architecture around them were an advanced civilization smarter than we are for sure. How many structures have we built that would stand for thousands of years? Or even a hundred years ? We use wood they used stone marble and granite mines from distances that would require a sophisticated means of transportation. No way a horse and buggies hauled their building materials hundreds of miles away to their job site. It’s not the reality we live in. And if you think about it for just a second you’d come to the same conclusion. These were people smart enough to create weapons more powerful than a black powder cannon, I promise ya. 😊

    The Statue of Liberty and Governor’s Island both sit on star forts in NY. Interesting that New York City used to be known as New Amsterdam. It was a trading site for The Dutch East India Company as it expanded into America with slave trade under its new branch, The Dutch West India Company. Human trafficking was one of its biggest “commodities“. Makes one wonder if Star Forts were more about protecting their trade business with their private armies, than protecting the realm! They’re all over the world, and most often near water routes! The earliest examples are said to be in Dutch areas. Amsterdam was the VOC (Dutch East India Co) headquarters!

    I want to believe this narrative, but it's not easy. How does such an elaborate, multilayered design offer better protection than say a large circle? Why are the majority of these structures underground, sometimes spanning for miles and miles, if they were built to defend cities?? Why did the French at one time call them "Italian outline"? This suggests They were discovered already in ruins, no? The one that really gets me though, is how in the hell did this design find its way to Japan, when Japan was closed to the rest of the world?? Better question, in what Universe would a people as proud as the Japanese be caught dead imitating the architecture of the comparatively savage Europeans? Lastly, I'm Portuguese. We are lazy, and make stuff up all the time. The canals on Madeira, which we ADMIT WE DID NOT BUILD, are linked to the Star Fort there. We are supposed to have discovered that island before anyone else, yet the star fort there looks far older than any other structure on the island. It's also isolated high above the capital city, it defends a church and nothing else. Why? I've spent a lot of time there, and that is the impression I got. I would love reasonable answers to these questions from anyone, please and thank you.
