Hello, Leo, I loved watching your video and seeing all of those wonderful box cars! You certainly do have some great looking NYC box cars. Your around the room layout design looks very interesting and I want to see more of it and will check out your channel further for sure. I appreciate the kind words and am glad I was able to have some small part in getting you inspired to create a channel and publish videos. Thank you for again this year participating in the Holiday Box Car Challenge! You did a great job and can now most certainly proclaim, "Bill B., I did it!" Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you! Bill
thanks for the nice note. I have enjoyed the boxcar challenge very much. Alway's interesting to see how our fellow enthusiasts go about having fun. I do appreciate you kind words about a year ago. This is a great hobby, full of great people. MERRY CHRISTMAS !
Youre rich man😊
Thank you, I am blessed ! I have been at this since 1985. Most items I have are used. Being patient and using train shows and Ebay as my main sources. On rare occasion I pay retail. But most items I have, took years to find at a reasonable price. Slow and steady.
Very cool. Now I want to buy more standard O cars!
Thanks for the nice note. These cars are not expensive, I looked on Ebay just before making this video. The NYC cars are plentiful at 20 dollars plus shipping and tax.
@ the ones I have I have picked up cheap at train shows, probably between $10-$20. They look great and are a great price
Very cool.
Nice!
Nice!
I enjoyed this video in full! As a kid growing up next to the Canadian National I obviously also love the GTW. You have a great layout.
Thanks for the nice note, just curious, how long does it take your steam engine to fire up, what do you burn for fuel ?
@ that engine takes about 12 minutes to steam up depending on conditions. I burn isobutane. Of course there is oiling the mechanical parts, filling the compound steam oiler, filling the butane, and filling the water. But I can replenish those things on the fly when needed and can run the engine indefinitely.
@@Terrys-Steam-and-Bricks appreciate the info. i have never experinced this. Looks like a lot of tinkering fun.Thank you Sir !
@ very much tinkering.
@ i have live steam in O gauge too. Runs on methylated spirits (wood alcohol). ruclips.net/user/shortsmPXu3lNoYk8?si=4x0-l1lksfTN-k1p
Leo - Great Video!!! Enjoyed your additional history on GTW. Do you have any idea what year or about what year 1517 the RS1 was re-painted to blue? Thanks, Jim
Thank you sir ! I dont know exactly. However the pair ( unit 1950, and 1951 ) had to have been painted to Burdakin Blue between 1972 and 1973. I had 3 other rail fan freinds during high school. One of our goals was to see the RS-1 "s in operation. Was not an easy task. At that time they worked in inner Detroit. They were mostly kept as a pair doing transfer runs. They were purchased in 1950, and 1951. The crews liked them a lot. They were the green and gold paint scheme till the late 60's. Then they were painted the black and red scheme with the large white GT logo. ( they were called the "Minnesota Twins" by the rail men when they were black and red) I did see them in this color. Never saw them in the green and gold, or the blue and red colors. we looked for them many times in 73 and 74 because we heard they were painted to the blue and red colors. Wondering if you might be part of the Detroit 3 railers ? * these are going to be pruduced again by MTH in the red and black paint scheme as a custom run for Berwyn's Toy Trains. Estimated to ship in late 2025. * I will have to pass, cant fit any more trains into my basement.
@@leoberiding Thanks, Leo. I was a kid dragging my dad to rail yards around Detroit back in the early 1970s but I don't think I ever saw the RS1s. GTW seemed to keep their units moving and I didn't realize that the sand / fueling racks were down in the direction of Rickle Malt. I would catch units moving through Milwaukee Jct or up in Pontiac. No, I am not part of D3R, I live in South Carolina but would love to be a non-resident member. I picked up 1951 from Berwyns, I had the GTW SWs road number in my head when I made the original post. Perhaps I will try to pick up 1950 in blk/orange. I collect and run the roads of Detroit from that period (pre-Conrail), I love your videos, my GTW stable is my thinnest. Most of the GTW I took pictures of and recall seeing seemed to still be in blk/orange. I could not find an answer as to when the RS1s got repainted. Thanks, Jim
@@OGRDETROIT Thanks for the great note. Have a happy Thanks giving Sir !
Cool Canadian power and consists.
Awesome run session and the layout is looking awesome.
I too miss Weaver's steam engines, & rolling stock! Only issue had to add weights to the cars to avoid derailment dependent on train placement. It was sad to hear that 3rd. rail ceasing production of brass steamers due to cost. I was hoping for reissue of CP. & CN steamers.
Thanks for the nice note. The only good thing about weaver closing is I have saved some money ! ( I also have added weights, and sprung metal trucks )
Fun looking railway.
Thanks for the nice comment. I do have a lot of fun with this, and enjoy seeing what others do with trains on Utube. ( I like any size train )
Nice layout!
Thank you, been in process since 1985, lotta fun and learing along the way. this was a child hood dream.
Best looking passenger scheme ever....
Beautiful Challenger and freight set! LOVE!
I love the diesels and freight set!
It took a long time to find these engines at a fair price. I like alco diesels so these are some of my favorite loco's Thanks.
Awesome diesels to love! Especially the coal set!
Thanks again sir !
I love these Centipedes too! I love the freight set as well!
Thanks, They are insanely long, but fun to run.
A super fantastic tank car train with a wonderful Mikado to love! A whole train set for me to love!
Thanks for the nice note. it is all fun. You Tube is great, I love seeing what other people do with thier trains !
Great collection indeed, especially because it makes a great train set!
Great Weaver reefer collection!
Thanks for the nice note. I watch most of your video's. it is great to see and learn what others are doing.
I remember their brass structures. Good prices as well when new
Cool.
Awesome accessories, they really dress up the layout.
Nice. The higher twin track that goes around the perimeter ,was that a after thought. Nice long train! How big is the layout.
Thanks for the nice note. Yes, the upper tracks came years later. There are 5 "loops" About 450 feet of gargraves track. Some of this is sidings. one of the loops is tinplate in the middle of the layout. It has been a work in process since 1985. I started with lionel O-31 track. Then slowly converted to gargraves. 2 loops have 42" min curves. The upper lines have 72" min curves. I enjoy running the trains. I appreciate people sharing thier layouts on U-tube. It is fun and interesting to see how we all do things a little differently.
Nice !!!👍🏻✌🏻🖖🏻

beautiful train
AWESOME units!!!🙏👍🔥💪❤️🇺🇸
Did all years of the RSDs have the same gear ratio?
As far as I know they were all the same. The RSD12 gear ratio is about 10% different from the RS11. Was a not an issue untill I added the PS-2 wich added speed ( cruise ) control.
Nice looking locomotives 👍 great work on layout views too
Hello I love your Model RS 11 & RSD 12 . I've been a fan of these ALCO diesel locomotives since I was a little boy. I have O scale but my mainline is Ho & a touch of N scale. These Union Pacific units are beautiful on your tracks. Happy model railroading I enjoyed watching this.
Thanks for the nice note ! I am fascinated by Alco diesels and the 2-51 prime mover. Love model and toy trains of all scales. Did N-scale with my fathers help back in the late sixties and early seventies. It was in its infancy then. I am amazed at how nice it is now.
Nice genset 👍 beautiful pull with those tank cars great history also, great selection of tank cars 👍
Thanks for the nice note, I am watching and liking your video's and the shorts also. thanks much for doing this, what fun !
@@leoberiding yes sir it is best hobby there is lots of fun and a great folks 👍 Thank you for being loyal to my channel I appreciate it
Wow, awesome paint, graphics and detail.
Great video. BTW, you were not complaining, you were simply informing us. I have two models of UP's 9000 series 4-12-2 locos, one Lionel, the other MTH. In physical detailing, MTH wipes the floor with Lionel, even down to a working 3rd cylinder, separately applied piping on the boiler, anti-derail chains on the tender trucks, opening window panes and operating roof hatches. The only feature Lionel has over my PS2 9010 is whistle steam. Both are beautiful models but the MTH model (as a model and not electronics) is superior. I have to say I was surprised to hear of your "tech" issues with your MTH Berkshire, so sorry to hear about this. I've never had any issues with my MTH locomotives. My problems have been with older TMCC tech where the electronics simply fail. I really like Legacy and I really like PS3 but other than Lionel's superior sound, PS3 offers more features such as independent volume controlling, chuff rate selection and so much more. Legacy does not. If your bell is too loud, on PS3 - not a problem, with Legacy, you can only turn down the general volume which means everything has to be made quieter. Perhaps we could take both MTH and Lionel models and convert them all to Blunami and run them in DCC. It can be done, check out Sid's Trains here on youtube. Anyways, thank again for your video.
thanks for the nice note. I was also surprised to have had problems with thr Berkshire. Before covid I would have told you MTH is darn near perfect. in my experience MTH electronics have been far more reliable than Lionel. But I have mostly diesels.
Nice! Found a video I missed. Sweet A-B-B-A power consist, very cool.
I just came across this video .... Subscribed!!! 👍
Thank you, I will check out your layout over the next few day's. Looks like you do very nice scenery !
@@leoberiding Thank You!!! I'm not even 1/2 way done .... I haven't even started the other end of the layout yet and I still have all of the tree's, bushes, people, cars, ect. The other end will be the Canadian border where the cattle farm will be. I'll have freight going in and out from there
Leo nicely done video and great layout, and nicely narrated! The MTH UP FM H10-44 caught my eye, I'm a bit of a FM nut as I used to see H-24-66 Trainmasters frequently on the Southern Pacific Commute between San Francisco and San Jose when I was young ('64 - '75). The Trainmasters were all retired by '75. SP also used FM switchers similar to your UP model up in San Francisco, and I think they were FM H-12-44, but I'm not completely sure which ones they were. In order to see them I'd have to beg my Dad to take a train ride from Palo Alto to SF to watch them switching in the SP yard. Happy railroading!
Thanks for the wonderfiul note. I also realy like FM railroad diesels. Being a diesel engine guy ther OP engine fascinates me. It is still made for ships and stationary power. An extremely efficient engine. I have some 1:48 models of the 6 cylinder - 12 piston engine. Can see them on my video of the RS-11 engines. I have viewed a great U-tube video of the SP passenger trains with FM's out in front, several times now.
Great switcher and details you’ve added
Thanks for the nice note.
Very cool! I have the SP H10-44 from '95. Still proto 1, still runs perfectly
These are great, mine ran fine, but I need cruise control for the grades on my 0-42 lines. Also love the features and sounds in Proto 2 and 3. Just watched your video on the Weaver C-630. I had one in UP. wished I would have kept it. Would have been a worthy unit to convert to PS-2. They do PULL ! I had lashed it up with Lionel SD40, with 12 powered wheels and magna traction. The E-unit flipped out on a switch and it went into reverse. The Weaver c-630 was pulling it like there was no load on the engine !
@leoberiding That's awesome. They were just a quality product. Thanks for watching as well.
Nice !!! Two trains is Awesome Leo✌🏻👍🏻🖖🏻
