I went a similar route but on 15 inch OEM steelies with tall tyres 195/80r15. My van is the commercial version and it sits higher. I took the wheel arches out to stop the slight rubbing on heavy bumps. I've built it into a camper/off roader/swamper, with roof basket and traction boards. I can go just about anywhere in my FWD van. The tyres and torque of the TDI makes it easy. I show up on top of mountains were Jeeps go. Lol

To think that all this started with a surfer throwing a mattress in the back of a panel van, gotten way too complicated.

Nice van. How will the tent cope with high winds I wonder? We have a T5 pop top and have to drop the roof in high winds.
