Today we will deviate from our regular Ranger Tug boat content to give you all a tour of a 1965 Boston Whaler my uncle and dad restored. I’m not sure if this era of Boston Whaler had model names? If anyone knows please post in the comment area below.

I would be curious to hear more of the details of the marinas including cost and amenities on future trips.
@@M-R-travel Marina slips tend to run between $1.25 to $2.50 a foot in that area depending on marina. All the places we stayed had showers, some charged a separate fee to use the shower, others were free with slip rental. Slips can be hard to get mid summer so we always book our slips a few months in advance. Hope this helps.?
btw you don't berth in False Creek do you?
@@af5235 We just visited for a couple days ( transient morage), we’re from Oregon.
Hey......that black vessel that is on the screen to the right of Amara is me!
That’s interesting, small world. That was a beautiful day to be on the water!
We love visitors in anacortes, I’m glad you had a good time.
@@woody6856 Thanks, it’s one of my favorite pieces! That Italian restaurant is amazing!
Hello. Enjoyed your video. I own a 2018 ranger tug and had the same problem with power. I ended up upgrading my solar panel to a 500W solid panel and it now generates 30-40 amps per hour on a sunny day. You will need to upgrade the pwp controller to a 40 amp mppt controller but it has worked very well for us.
Thanks. Yeah I considered adding another panel on the roof rack, and a dedicated Victron controller. The problem for us is we have a Yakima roof storage box and a kayak already on the roof, so there is no room for an additional solar panel. We generally boat on our local lakes in Oregon , which after 6pm all the boats clear out, then we plug our Honda 3000 watt suitcase generator into the boats shore power receptacle and have unlimited power. The Honda 3000watt will stay in ‘eco mode’ even when under a moderate load so it’s very quiet. I think when we’re in the San Jauns we need to learn to be more conservative with our power consumption.
cool
Thanks as always for the videos. We are thinking about an additional solar for our R27 as well. Interested in seeing your thoughts on it!!!
@@biobanker I gave the additional solar panel a lot of thought and research, I’ll do a video on why we did what we did soon.
The area with homes and marina is Shelter Bay....Laconner has lots of good restaurants and shops. Moorage is plentiful.
Interesting, we will have to put that on our list of places to visit. Thanks
For your 6hp Dinghy engine is it just attached to the U shaped hand rail? Is that strong enough to handle the weight or is there something else helping to keep it stable?
That’s the way Ranger set the boat up, it seems very stable and solid. Sail boats often mount there dinghy to grab rails, this is a similar concept.
@@michaelbartyzal1306 Got it, thanks. Our R25 didn't have this option so looking to add it myself. Would love to see a picture of how it was installed. I should be able to put it in the same spot, just may need some starboard on the back to strengthen the transom.
@@paulycomtois We had a R25 OB before this, and this boats (R27) transom area seems much stronger, so I suspect some reinforcements are probably in order if you want to mount a small OB. Below is a link to a short I did for you showing the mount. ruclips.net/user/shortsBSrxXPdNHVw?si=O291mjQ4vNjYeUGR
Pikes flowers are amazing What did the fire boat do turn around or back out? What a fun time you guys had in Seattle.
@@rosemariewyatt-cs5mb Yeah, the fire boat was practicing close quarter maneuvering. They did much more than what I recorded
The boat on its side was pretty crazy
Sad the trip ended 😢
Yes
Vancouver is an ever cool city!!!
Yes it was!
Friday Harbor was really fun
One of my favorite stops!
Cool thumbnail
Yes!
The kids had so much fun in Seattle
Yes they did!
He probably has hydraulic thrusters. Unlike the little electric ones on the smaller Ranger Tugs, you can lean on the hydraulic ones as much as you need to maintain control. By the way, Port Ludlow is a no wake zone, including dinghy’s.
Ok, thanks.
I live in Port Ludlow. I love the boat life. But like to boat away from Ludlow. We all want to get away. It's interesting.
I understand. You live in a beautiful area.
Whats the place with the hot tub? Im getting tired of ruffing it in the boat, time for me to stop being cheap, lol.
Poet’s Cove resort on South Pender Island Canada.. just a quick ride from Roche Harbor or Stewart Island
It’s a great place, well worth the time and money!
Canada, dang! Not leaving the country til after the apocalypse!🤣
I really like both Friday harbor and Port Ludlow.! It’s hard to pick which one I like better, but I think Port Ludlow wins by a little bit because of the showers and the sandy beach
The Salmon fishing off Sucia was great! Shallow Bay was such a beautiful place to anchor
Vancouver was so fun! I think Granville Market is better than Pike’s in Seattle
I agree!
I love Poet’s Cove ❤
Yes, it’s a Great mid trip stop.
Oh wow you had a great bay experience we only saw the part where the ferry drops you off and on from Wa.
Yeah, if you have your own boat there is lots of areas to explore, we only saw a little of what’s to see in that area.
Still there? My office is right there. Let me know if you would like some tips for boating around Vancouver!
Unfortunately we left this morning. Thanks for offer, you live in a beautiful area!
Next time look into Deep Cove and Indian Arm. It’s a great picturesque fyord close to the city and you can reserve mooring balls for cheap. It’s worth looking into its so close.
@@biobankerOk, thanks for the information, we will keep that in mind for next time!
I really like anchoring out better than staying in marinas. So peaceful and the views are unparalleled. The sunsets in Shallow bay are amazing ☀️
I really enjoyed Cypress Island! A beautiful anchorage ❤
The boat on min 9. Lots of times you see those hauling semi trucks to the islands. Usually tanker trucks.
Ok, thanks for the information. Are those boats owned by the government, or are they privately owned ( for hire)?
@@michaelbartyzal1306 I don't actually know. I've always assumed they were privately owned. So, I put my money on privately owned.
Mt Baker?
Yes, we googled it.
Looks like you replaced the cheap factory anchor with a Rocna ?
Yes we did. The factory Lewmar was actually ok, we anchored with it in some lakes with suboptimal bottoms and it did ok in strong winds . We just wanted more holding power for off boat dinghy excursions in the Puget Sound (tide & current) . Many people report having good experience in the Puget Sound with the factory anchor, we just wanted a little more peace of mind. There is probably better ‘modern’ anchors than the Rocna, but we knew the Rocna would fit our craddle do that’s what we bought.
Cypress Island is so beautiful! We will definitely be going there again.
To bad you cant keep things in frame while your filming after the seal im gone geez
Sorry, thanks for watching! We’re new to filming this stuff . We will get better!
What a way to go, we have camped at Broken Arrow campground but staying on the lake and not dealing with reserving a site is the way to go. Which boat ramp did you use? I would like to see more about trailering and launching a Ranger Tug.
Hi, I’ve lived in SW Oregon my whole life and have never camped at Broken Arrow, only Diamond Lake Campground. Anyway, there is only one ramp at Diamond that I know of that’s suitable for launching this boat and it’s in the Diamond Lake Campground. We launched our old R25 at the ramp by the Marina once and it worked, but it was sketchy. No way would I attempt launching this R27 at that ramp. Camping on a boat at Diamond has other advantages other than reservations, like there are no mosquitoes in the middle of the lake. As you probably know the mosquitoes can be bad at Diamond around the shore. I will make a video about trailering this boat soon, stay tuned.
Looks fun! Looking forward to the SJ trip!
@@lukeerickson8154 Me too!
I miss them being little 😢
Yes, they grow up fast.
Glad you replaced the cheap factory anchor ! The factory should reconsider the ''stuff '' they put on to save a buck !
We had the Lewmar ( Bruce ) anchor on our last boat (R25) which we had good experience with as long as we were in an area that has good anchor holding characteristics. The Rocna seems to do better at holding in anchorages that have less than ideal bottoms for anchoring. Overall I think the Lewmar is a decent anchor, there’s better anchors of course, the same could probably be said for the Rocna.
The Rocna did great this trip, I’m glad we had it!
I agree!
You need wheels for your dinghy. If you get the big ones, when you put them down they should be lower than your propeller. Then you can motor all the way in, lift up the front and roll it up the beach. Don't get the small ones! 😂
Thanks, I typically just beach the dingy so the dog can go potty, Then I go back to the boat. I never pull the dingy on land.
@@michaelbartyzal1306 I understand, we cruised for 6 years on our Catalina 36 sailboat with two dogs. Once you get wheels and get used to using them you will love them. Just another boat buck at WestMarine.
Hello, when you mentioned that you ran the HVAC all night…. Were you running the air conditioner on the batteries ? Thanks
Yes, we were running the HVAC on the batteries all night.
Man, Washington stare weather is beautiful.
It’s not like that all time.
25 footer. Good 👍
The new R27 is even better!
Looking forward to see the new boat .Thanks for the video Ont Canada
Watch episodes 3 through 9. All those episodes are of the new R27.
We have not boated on the West coast , but looks very pretty !
Yes it is.
Is she still for sale?
It might be. We traded in at Ranger Tugs, so you would need to contact them.
I love our adventures ❤
Nice Boat.
Thanks
💞Wow🧡🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🧡🤍🤍
Any other 20 something foot boat can be naturally put ot a trailer by just riding up on the trailer from the water.
They had to adjust the trailer for the boat while it was on the lift. Also no boat ramps in that immediate area.
How much does that cost these days
I’m assuming your asking about that haul out cost? If you are I have no idea, we didn’t directly pay that fee.
Have you upgraded the anchor yet ? Very important if you want to sleep when anchored out . Factory supplied anchor is a " Lunch Hook " . Have they upgraded to a Smart Plug Connector for shore hook up yet ? prevents possible connection fire .
We’ve been thinking about a plug upgrade.
