Sewer Hose Storage Capacity Hack/Upgrade for Little Guy Max RV Travel Trailer
Thank you!
Can you set the battery capacity to 50% of rated amp hours in order to get a realtime look at what you really have available.
Yes can set to 50% of battery capacity. I have in fact started using 50% to tell when to recharge battery. Works great!
PACKard--like "pack" a lunch! Love your magnificent car!
Great Review and info. Thank you so much for sharing. 👍
This was when cars were more than just functional, they were also "works of art."
It's fine to have an alarm beeper. But how I can switch it off?
I do not believe you can. Only way to silence is disconnecting display unit. You may want to contact Renogy to see if you can.
Just set it to 0 volt and it will never go off.
Instructions lithium battery monitor model RMB500 Trying to install on 2 x 100amp lithium batteries in an RV I need to enter data as follows, per the instructions, please confirm if you think the info below is ok, any help you can provide is appreciated. 1. Cap ....200amp 2. Full V ... 14.9 3. Zero V ...10.9 4. Powoff... 7v 5. Alarm .... 10ah 6. atten...... NO IDEA..... WHAT IS THIS NUMBER, any idea what I should enter😊
Capacity should be 50% for you it would be 100 amp. Taking battery below will reduce battery life. 2 & 3 look good. I am not near my RV untill Sunday to check the others. Will get back to you mid day Sunday 4, 5 and 6.
@ramblinroses6066 Thanks, much appreciated. Teck support have advised item 6 is automatically completed by the monitor after a cycle, leave as 0. They can't help with the others, so any input you can give will help. I have e two 100 amp lithium batteries...so total ah available is 200 amps. Hope this helps.
@@rvhtravels Sorry just realized you have a lithum monitor. I have a 200ah LGM battery (lead type) and monitior. Mine only has cap, high, low and alarm. It looks like your alarm should be 100ah to provide an alarm for 50% of battery used to allow long life on battery but of course that is lead batteries. Not sure about lithium batteries the 10ah you are using maybe correct not able to make a judgement.
Curious about the A/C. The compressor mounts where the oil filter is so with factory air, the filter was relocated to the passenger side. Since this has it in the non-A/C location, does that mean that the engine has been changed?
The compressor was no longer in car. Pictures seen on internet show the compressor on the riverside of engine
What type of battery are you using? I'm curious about the BT-1 module working with non renogy branded batteries. I gave them a call and they told me I needed to purchase a renogy branded battery for the bluetooth to work but if the BT-1 plugs straight into the charge controller why would I need a renogy branded one?
Conected to the standard 100amp-hr lead acid battery that came with the LGM. Not a renogy battey. Works great!
awesome thanks!@@ramblinroses6066
This set up will give you an approximate battery meter as it comes from the voltage of the battery, the smart battery will be more precise. I have opted with this set up as I don’t need as much detail
Did you say renouwgy?
"Renogy" same sas in the title of Video
"Renogy" Same as in title of Video.
Hi there thanks for the great video as i have just purchased the same charge controller so any information is good but all be it i dont know if you have realised you have a positive + ground charge controller, this could cause problems with grounding your battery if it is negative - ground. Just a thought.
Glad you like the video. Did not realise the controller was positive ground type. I have no problems with it and my system is a negative ground system.
As clear as mud, how about showing a diagram 1st
Great video. Thank you
I have all Renogy components in my system, but I can’t seem to find any of this RENOLOGY brand you keep mentioning. You got a link???
The link is below in video description. Here it is on Amazon: www.amazon.com/Renogy-500A-Battery-Monitor-Programmable/dp/B07RP5B5P7
@@ramblinroses6066 yeah that's the Renogy I have, where's this RENOLOGY you kept saying??
My monitor is installed. It also shows when power is drawn from the battery and how much. But the level of the display does not change and always remains at 100 percent. What am I doing wron
Not sure why staying at 100%. Try reprogramming. Also, try removing any power that may be charging batteries and see if percent charged decreases.
Very thorough explanation, thanks.
Great video and well spoken
Thank Heaven the fire breathing dinosaur absorption fridge is on the way out! Even die hard Northwood Manf. is switching to 12V fridges in their Nash, Arctic Fox and O.R.V. lines.
Good news if 12v proves to be efficiently use of battery
Weekenders would be fine with one or two AGM's Full timers will be and have been switching to Li anyway with the huge price reduction of Li Batteries. The best thing....nobody will burn to death from absorption fridge fires.@@ramblinroses6066
Do you know the dimensions offhand of the front compartment? I intend to go heavy on Li batteries. I'm looking at the SOK Li's or the Lions Li's. I'm looking at 600AH total with a Victron MultiPlus inverter/converter, about 300 watts in solar on the roof and portable. I have a 2500 dual fuel inverter that I'm going to put in a cargo rack on the rear hitch. I can use it to keep the Li's charged every few days as needed. I want to boondock for 10-14 days at a time.
You will probably can get the batteries in the underneath dining bench. The problem will be is that the front loading may be unbalancing the trailer to much to the front when considering the water tank being filled with water when you boondack. My battery is 163 lbs. Of course you can balance the with more weight in the back storage. Her is a video I made to check safe tongue weight and balancing trailer that may help ruclips.net/video/QVpKBQ8rVuE/видео.html
Lion Li batteries are only 23 lbs each. I can have 630 AH and be 25 lbs less than your battery.@@ramblinroses6066
It's shameful how manufacturers post unrealistic tongue weights in their ads.
Do you require a DC-DC MPPT Charger? It didn’t look like it.
No DC-DC MPPT charger required.
Relology.....?
Sooooo clever! Thanks again.
I'm on the fence with this monitor. I installed mine about half a year ago and I initially really liked it. Unfortunately it started flaking out on me about a month ago. It would sporadically sound it's alarm and tell me I had 0% battery capacity in my bank. I think I've tracked it down to a faulty pin on the wire that connects the shunt to the monitor. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a replacement wire. To be honest though, I'm not sure I even want to spend money on a replacement wire if this one only lasted 6 months. It's a shame because I really do like the display. Much more than other monitors on the market. Others like the Victron only show partial information where as this one shows everything.
Sorry to hear you are having a problem. When I am not using RV, I disconnect the plug on the back of the monitor. The reason I do this there is small draw on the battery when not connected to shore power and over time would discharge the battery.
I just got a 2020 LGM. I was wondering why no sewer hose fits in there. This is an excellent mod. Thank you! I'm off to home depot to get the parts.
how do I know what values to put in for high and low? I have a lithium battery. Thx
You can use the same for all batteries, type does not matter.
It will tell you in the manual.
Here is the reality check: if shopping for a used trailer, two same models side by side. One was maintained by the EZ Lube, the other was always maintained by disassembly, seals, races, bearings cleaned by hand, visually inspected and components replaced as needed. Which one would you buy with all other things being equal?
Hate to think of the damage done when you used that Modified Sine Wave Inverter...major screw-up!!! I tried watching a couple of your vids but your slow speech pattern makes it impossible to stay awake.
EZ Lube is NOT to be used for bearing lube maintenance!!!!!! Check with Dexter.....it's only to be used in a EMERGENCY!!!!
I find your comment strange, what i s an emergency? To me an emergency is failure like strange sounds or overheating of wheel hub. If that was the case using the EZ lube would be not warranted and an investigation needed before moving trailer. 2nd to this, I found nothing on Dexter Axle site to indicate what you shared....To the contrary......No bulletins advising of problem. Here is what is posted: Application Manual - www.dexteraxle.com/user_area/content_media/raw/applications-manual-(lit-008-00).pdf Video Posted in Applications Manual - ruclips.net/video/XT0RKDGgDm8/видео.html
Here is a video contrary to your claim......that EZ Lube system is only for emegencies!!! Dexter EZ Lube works! Don’t listen to RV dealer fibs - ruclips.net/video/q0_jTrjMs9g/видео.html&feature=share
@@ramblinroses6066 You're right, dealers will lie to sell the EZ Lube as a be all, end all. If you're not removing your races and bearings, checking your spindles, removing old grease, your axle component maintenance is horribly lacking after 12 months or 10K miles. Most people don't know to "burnish" new brakes in or how to check and adjust them.
@@ramblinroses6066 Those were redone by hand. If you look hard enough the one race had corrosion on it.......so much for quality maintenance on his part. There's evidence of old or oxidized grease remaining. COMMON SENSE: Old grease is heavier than new grease. Plus a measure old grease caked will be present, will be a different color. The new grease will come out of EZ Lube long before old grease will, it has less resistance. The worse of the old grease is still in there. Sorry but some maintenance requires getting your hands dirty. The EZ way is not the best at all, no visual check of the components.
@@ramblinroses6066 Learn how to replace and properly lubricate your bearings. Carry a complete full replacement set, grease, wooden block, rubber hammer, large flat screwdriver. If there is a failure while traveling a little elbow grease and 45 minutes you will be back up and running.....safely.
What size cable did you use for shunt to neg battery terminal ?
I used #4 AWG but I have 2000 watt inverter setup. If you only have 1 wire on the negative side, it should be the same size.
Wow such a great idea , I didn't want to drill into my trailer roof and screw down the panel, And wasn't to keen on the double sided tape method , Guess Im off to Home Depot for some PVC pipe Thanks a ton Greetings from Canada.
Same for me on adding to RV roof.....besides if RV is in shade no sun. With this method solar panels can be moved to capture sun.
thanks for posting I just purchased the same unit !
Great! Inexpensive must have, just love being able to reliably monitor battery status!
If you look carefully, you will see with the vehicle connected and turned off you are getting a slight charge from it, not much just 0.20amps.
Thanks for the comment. The current draw shown is actually the inside the trailer electronics, including the battery monitor draw, not from tow vehicle. Look at the beginning of video current draw without car connected with no shore power is .34amps 4 watts.
@@ramblinroses6066 and at the end its o. 15,a difference of 19.
Thanks I always enjoy your videos.
Nice and easy fix! Thanks for sharing
What happened to the wheel skirts?
Not certain what you mean. The skirts are on the car.
Thanks for a decent video. Have you road tested this? Im curious because of the wiring not being at least cable tied to the pvc frame at the rear and the mounting of the charger. Seems like there would be allot of movement for the pv wiring and the charge controller mount.
Thank you for comment. Yes, road tested. No problems with controller wiring. There is a zip tie on the controller to secure wiring with drilled holes through th wood board. The solar panels are stored away under the queen bed in the back disassembled. The solar panel wires are very robust, if you are concerned about solar panel wires, you could zip tie to frames, I have chosen not put zip ties.
For the solar controller build, in the description is a link to the solar controller build that shows the zip ties to secure wires. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/GSKI2EY9ItY/видео.html
Great video again, Frank! I think I will give it a try on my LGM. Sadly DoHonest no longer offers your 5-inch model. It seems the options from DoHonest are 7-inch monitors. At 6:30 in your installation video, you mention that the insulation on the cigarette lighter cables is too thick and that you had to shave a little. How did you achieve that without stripping down to the copper wires? What kind of tool did you use for that task?
I used a razor blade knife. Currently traveling from NY to AZ. Just upgraded my camera for the trip and it fantastic and planning to post a new video with same install link. Will send product link.
Here is the camera link for the camera I recently bought on Amazon: a.co/d/f7iJbL6
@@ramblinroses6066 Thanks so much, Frank, for your replies. I actually bought the same 7-in model you've provided a link for. We'll be heading out west on Jan 1. I'd like to have my camera/monitor kit installed and tested by then. Will your updated rearview camera install video be online soon? I'd be happy to wait to install mine to learn from your new insights. Please let me know. I intend to mount my camera with the help of multiple strong magnets to my spare tire rack.
Yes will post next week. The install is the same with this new camera so will not be repeat that portion, just providing link back to previously posted video.
when pulling what is your typical gear/RPM - I have a half-ton truck with a 6 speed transmission and it seems that at 55/60mph - i am in 5th or even 4th gear alot - between 2400 and 3400 RPM which can be a little jarring if you are used to being in 6th/Overdrive at under 2000 RPM on the highway. I've wondered how smaller Tow Vehicles like this handle in that regard.
I have an 8 speed transmission. On the flats going 55 to 60 it usally runs 7 to 8. I too hate the 4 and 5 speeds. So what I do is run in cruise control and when I get to hills I slow down the cruise control to lower spped as needed to not go to 4 or 5 speed. When I get on the downside of hill, I take it back to 60mph usually. Using this technic my gas mileage is much better than just leaving cruise at 60mph. My rpm is is usually 2500 to 3000.
Even in the late 50's, I thought these cars looked like Checker Cabs. "Old fashioned" as I used to say. I remember being obsessed with Cadillacs and "push button" windows.
Well, Packard had "pushbutton" windows in the same years as Cadillac's and also, in 1956, had an electric door locking system!
I have the same one and love it! I just put in a renogy inverter in my 97 road trek as well and plugged in a 700w microwave. When it runs it draws 100 amps and 1.1kw wats on it. I’m curious, what is your air fryer rated for watts? Thanks!
Air fryer is 800 watts. Just love the Battery Monitior. The other day, checked my Jeep to see how much the charge was and see if there was no draw from my frailer when my Jeep was off.....worked great!
Sorry about the air fryer being 800watt, I was mistaken it is 1000 watt.
700W is the cooking power NOT the actual power draw. My "800w" microwave takes almost 1300w to run....
Really well documented. Thanks
You are awesome Mr Rose
Hi do you use a (shore) battery charger ? Where do you connect it? Bus bar or btty terminal? (Which side of shunt). Which model charger? Tia
I use the shore battery charger provided with the rv which stays, nothing additional is needed.
@@ramblinroses6066 what is a "shore" battery charger? Is it different than a car battery charger?
@@trainmaster0217 shore power is when you plug RV into AC at home or at the RV park. Onboard your RV it converts AC to 12v DC to charge your RV battery.
@@ramblinroses6066 OK, thank you
Thank you for this. I have the 2018 Standard Little Guy Max which also does not have the solar panel pre installed. It does have the controller mounted inside which shows the battery status. Do you know if the zamp plug on the AC on the roof is connected to the controller or directly to the battery which will require a separate controller. Thanks!
You will need a solar charge controller. See my link for this: ruclips.net/video/GSKI2EY9ItY/видео.html. All the episodes for this build are below this video you watched.. Good Luck, love my setup, works great.
It's a nice little unit..... - means watts out and + means watts in sir, arrow down is amps out arrow up amps in. Time on the right is discharged time on load and remaining time till 100% on charge.
Yes Yes Yes.....I love this montior too!
do you receive charge from the alternator as well? if so, how do you manage to isolate the starter battery from the secondary ?
Good question. I have the factory installed trailer package on my Jeep Grand Cherokee. It has a larger alternator, not certain if it has a control circuit between the starter battery and 12 volt to trailer.
Have you hardwired the AC yet. For me that's the most likely reason I why by this. Because most 2000 Watts do not have this function
No AC. It will kill battery fast.
I have the same setup as you. Mine never shows anything for current draw (solar / battery / or load). My voltage is the only numbers that changes. Is it the same for you? Is our controller not capable of showing current?
Yes only voltage in and Battery voltage. If you want current you need a battery monitor.
To measure current I installed a battery monitor. Here is video for my install ruclips.net/video/1h7q9Ytd0A4/видео.html
