Arf
Gorgeous ☕️
So so good!
That is epic! Makes me want to buy a full size digital piano to play through some of these pieces. I'm not a pianist i'm a guitar player but love piano and reading through all these orchestrations.
Someone played this for me in his car when I was 15 years old in 1974. I didn't know what to make of it at all. Not long after that my friends and I started listening to Overnite Sensation and we all got hooked. Echidna's Arf has been one of my Zappa favorites for decades.
Wild music ! So many metric changes. Hearing it, it's so hard to imagine that except if you played it or you have real good ears...
Is this transcription available for purchase?
1.002 / 5.000 Hi all, I am the creator of Sofa up platt, on YT. It is a special North German slang version of the sofa. The old "controversial issue" in bar 47: The author of all rims on a sofa!?? In my opinion that should be: the author of all wrinkles...in German. The author of all rims - those are things on the car. With the sofa, they are wrinkles! And it goes like this: In English it sounds like rims but: wrinkles in English letter sounds similar. The I in German is spoken in English: Ei (Ahii and the German Ei sounds English like I, - Ihhh... So it can happen that wrinkles sound like rims - in German. The author of all wrinkles - that suits a sofa better... - sung in German... The woman who translated Frank Zappa's text was asked about it, but unfortunately she doesn't remember because she's too old and demented now.... Heyy, it's so complicated... ...but music is the best!!!
Frank was such a fearless composer! Who would write something like this let alone find the talented musicians to play it?
Simple and good
Genius!

Hi, Greg. I just got the sad news that Dr. Stern passed away. I was his piano student at Cal State circa 1973-1975. I often wondered if he might put his vast collection of performances and educational materials on RUclips some day but he never got around to it, probably too complex a project for him at his advanced age. I watched his series "Characters and the Arts" religiously on TV in the mid 60's before I even knew who he was. He once had a live performance of the Liszt 2nd Concerto on his show with Gaylord Brown conducting. I also studied conducting with Mr. Brown at about the same time. Both were extremely helpful in establishing Cal State LA's reputation as having an excellent music program, along with Henry Jackson who I once had the privilege of seeing him play both the Rachmaninoff 2nd and 3rd Concertos in one concert. I assume you inherited all this material from Dr. Stern's estate. What a wonderful tribute to put it up for him for posterity. There are a few performances of his Brahms No 2 and Mozart No 17 around on audio. I was very familiar with those from the Cal State listening lab. I am enjoyng this collection immensely and I hope you make his other things available as well.
Hi JJ Townley, a pleasure to hear that my archiving work is appreciated. Your final year at CSULA was the year that I arrived. Did you know Patrick Lindley? All of the recordings I had came from his son Adam Stern. A recording of the Brahms 2 was not among them. I’m told by Patrick, who heard it live, said it was an almost disastrous performance. As for the Characters in the Arts, I still have about half of them remaining to edit and put up on RUclips still. greg.sandell atsign gmail dot com.
@@gsandell Yes, I'm sure there are other former students out there who will appreciate the tremendous effort you are making to keep Dr. Stern's legacy alive. Was he sick when he passed or was it just natural causes and how old was he? Re the Brahms 2 it wasn't so much disastrous playing as it was disastrous memory slips. One of them I vividly recall was measures 133-136 he simply couldn't remember the sequence so he waited patiently for the phrase at 137 and picked up there. There were a few others but I cannot recall them. His performance career was checkered but as a scholar and lecturer he was unparalleled. JJ
Where’s the bird a-humming?
Sheer JOY on bass player's face...
Great song
Is this an electronic performance? Finale? Sibelius?
Absolutely phenomenal, good sir! Thank you for sharing your love of this piece with us. I can't imagine the effort you put into realizing this, but it was well woth it! It is a joy! Thank you!
RIPWIKI. I bet she had 15 great years. Thank u for that.
I am quite sure He is smiling down on your fantastic work.
You can really detect Zappa's ear for the sort of thematic patterns and contrasts in music one would traditionally hear accompanying the sorts of ceremonial dances that were popular in Europe for centuries, where a confident, broad collective striding movement gives way to twirling, waltzing et al. The gospel influence gives it even broader resonance. An iconic work of music.
The Koln Camel
Good old Yuja! If she didn't hold onto the piano with her left hand as she thrusts forward while "bowing," she might lose her balance and trip over. Now wouldn't that be a sight?
Should of played this for the knuckles series.
Excellent job with this!! 👏🏼👏🏼
Absolutely amazing!❤
Beautiful song ❤ nothing too hard for God. Have Faith, Believe and wait on the Lord 🙏 I'm a witness
well done!
he's very handsy by putting his palm on her shoulder.
Wow. That's kind of amazing man.
❤❤❤
It is helpful for me to hear these recordings of my colleaugue, Milton Stern after so many years. He was a pretty good pianist, but he treated me badly forany years, and contributeduch pain to me during my eatly years ad a professor at Cal State L. A. . Today, it saddens me, now that he is dead. He resented my presence in his world. I now know why.
The composer lives!

Healing for our souls I was so blessed
She’s so gifted and all of us pianists admire what she can do. But I swear I was expecting her to deliver a cocktail to someone at a slot machine in Las Vegas. The only thing missing is the bunny tail and ears. She would fit right in there. I once was criticized for not wearing a formal jacket at a piano competition and the lady who served as stage manager told me to borrow the jacket of the guy who played before me. She said it was disrespectful of the jury. I wonder what she would think if I went out in workout clothes, tennis shoes, shorts and a tank top? It seems the male equivalent of this. Yuja or her manager have clearly done this for publicity, and it’s working. People are talking. But I wonder if she actually thinks it looks good? That would blow my mind if she did. Sorry, it doesn’t look good, or appropriate, unless you’re serving cocktails at Hooters. 😂🎉😂🎉😂🎉 Would someone wear a flashy red gown at a funeral? I would hope not.
@@griffin5734 no, I’m very secure, but I don’t want to see someone’s ass at a concert, especially not a female. If it were a man in a tank top with big muscles, I might change my mind, but probably not. Do you think she’s appropriately dressed for a funeral? If so, why? I don’t find her attractive at all. But that’s just my personal feelings.
@@griffin5734 if I want to see a trapeze artist or a cocktail waitress, I’ll go to venues where I can see such things. Not being attracted to females, and especially Yuja, I think I would rather see someone who shows some respect to the composers, audience and orchestra. To me, this is like a blatant slap in the face of all the above. Now if a hot muscle guy came out in a tank top, perhaps I would change my mind. Then all the homophobes would have a fit. Yuja is alleged to be a lesbian, so it’s rather hilarious that straight men would be lusting after her. She’s not interested in you (them).
@@griffin5734 there’s actually no circumstance where I would want to see a female dressed like that. Not even as a cocktail waitress. Sorry, it’s just going across the line. Again: do you think she would be appropriately dressed to attend a funeral? It not, why not? I consider a classical music concert to be a serious event, not an occasion to model clothes, and I don’t want to see this.
@@griffin5734 insecure is an odd word to use. I’m a gay man with zero interest in women. How does that make me insecure? Would you be bothered by attending a concert if a male pianist were shirtless? Does that make you insecure if it bothered you? You don’t make any sense. The proper word for my reaction is: disgust or I find it offensive.
@danielgloverpiano7693 Bravo. Totally!
Great!
