Renova New Music Ensemble

The Renova New Music Ensemble is the University of Colorado Boulder's student-led contemporary choral ensemble dedicated to performing CU Student and Alumni composers' vocal compositions.
Created in Oct.2021, the Renova New Music Ensemble has hosted an array of community events, beginning with the debut of “The Young Years Suite,” by JC Maynard in Dec.2021. The 2022 Alchemy Concert, directed by Dr. Jessie Flasschoen, marked an exploration in immersive choral experiences. In Apr.2023, the Renova New Music Ensemble joined with the Westview Church Choir and CU Boulder string quartet to perform “A Mass of Rebirth” - a five movement composition directed by Dr. O’Neil Jones commissioned for an organ detication. Last December, Renova performed “A Winter’s Night,” and in April, they showcased their “Stories in Song” concert, convering a vast array of musical styles and extended techniques to tell unique tales, from legends of Irish seaweed harvesting to long forgotten civilizations.

Renova Fall 2024 Concert FINAL
Renova performed their Fall 2024 semester concert on December 12th at St. John's Episcopal Church in Boulder, CO. “EXULTATE,” meaning “rejoice,” features a wide array of uplifting pieces, from sacred texts and features with piano and string quartet, to a cappella odes to nature and reflections on our history.

At the November 2024 CU SoundWorks concert, the Renova New Music Ensemble performed JC Maynard's "Alleluia," an eight part a cappella work with many interweaving melodic lines, temporal and metric changes, and tonal shifts. The sonorous wash of voices ebb in and out of homophony, creating hauntingly gorgeous chords that tug on the heart.
