@@funkerman7 Well, given that I first met this track on discodust blog in 2008, you can see the evolution of the synthwave genre since then. Just compare the number of artists producing it back then to today and the huge variety of influences that came along with it. Synthwave certainly sounds different nowadays but this is just how genres develop. It's the same with rap music to give you one example.
@@aliasmusic5706 valerie collective had some artistss that could be synthwave, but Russ Chimes certainly is not one of them, College, Keenhouse and Anoraak, sure
@@funkerman7 I hope you are aware of the fact that russ chimes released stuff on valerie which I agree with you is a synthwave label of the early days. You could argue about most of his other releases (ok, those aren't synthwave) but with this particular remix for the outrunners who have been by the way mostly also valerie artists, I'd definitely put it into the broader synthwave spectrum. Also please consider we're talking about a time when this term wasn't even popular yet.
@@aliasmusic5706 I agree with all your points I was there during the discodust blog golden era and myspace era (So many great indie artists). But I think the term synthwave wasn't being used before Drive. At least, I don't recall reading the term "synthwave" anywhere pre 2011. I remember blogs still labeled this music as new wave, electro, pop. I think that's why funkerman7 said it's not synthwave, but at this point that's the only way you can really categorize any electronic 80's inspired synth music. This track brings back so many good music memories, I still remember my RUclips channel were I would upload all the Valerie tracks, I mean for goodness sake, I was the first user EVER to upload College's, "A Real Hero" on RUclips with a picture of Flashdance. But alas YT deleted the channel. Oofff that was a blow!
