This RUclips channel is an educational forum for screencasts of problem solving techniques in sophomore organic chemistry. I am currently an assistant professor of organic chemistry at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS. In addition to teaching undergraduate organic chemistry, I have a small research group composed of Ph.D. candidates, undergraduate and high school student researchers. We are looking into new ways to make carbon-nitrogen bonds for the total synthesis of natural products and other small molecules. Our mission is to use the synthetic tools and fundamental principles of organic chemistry to efficiently create new drug candidates for the societal benefit of advancing human healthcare.

halogens do not add in the HDI
very fit
How you got the numbers 8,8,24 and 40 for protons
But thanks! Helpful!
Gloves!
Thank-you!
Do you have to calibrate the chloroform solvent peak first for a carbon nmr
Which software (or website) did you use for realtime vibrational IR spectrum?
Which software (or website) did you use for this video?
I did understand some of those words so that's progress I guess
Your video is so helpful for me, thank you 👍

Can you do this for C10H15N Methamphetamine
this is really good, thank you
What is the name of this book?
I tried this reaction in the lab, added a drop of DMF but still didn't get the product
I just got into a fist fight with my wife about this last night. She won, but I was right. Ah ha!!!!!
6:19 & 6:57 Sir, may I ask how did you get the ratio between the carbon and hydrogen? (6,4) & (9,1)
The m/z = 58 can have different constitutional isomers. Once we figure out the molecular formula and max number of carbons, there can be linear and branched isomers. The ratios stated as (6,4) are for the linear isomer butane with two methyl groups and two methylene groups. The (9,1) ratio is for the branched isomer 2-methlpropane that has three methyl groups and one methine.
I didnt understand anything!Not cool
I am sorry to hear that. Perhaps if you were more specific about what was unclear, I could offer additional feedback.
Are you sure that THF is the solvent? Do you have a reference for using this solvent? All the references I have seen use DCM
yes, the solvent system should be THF, DMF is added in a catalytic amount (one or two drops) to activate oxalyl chloride.
Thanks!!
how are you calculating the molecular weight for H2, CH4, NH3, H2O, AND HF?
never mind, i got it.
How can we learn elucidation from any institutes
thank you so much, i've been looking for an example with multiple benzenes forever
Nice video sir, keep it up
Plz sir reply
How can we find that there is nitrogen or oxygen in molecule?
girl i have the same question
A question based on this topic was asked in JEE ADVANCED 2020 exams conducted in INDIA Thanks for this awesome explanation...
After 7 years, it is still helpful. Well done, sir

What's the book you are using?
kien viendo este video pa resolver la tarea del moi?
Gracias a tu recomendación, JAJAJAJAJAJAJAJA. XDDDDXDXDXDXD
I want to do this reaction in the lab...what do you mean by catalytic amount of DMF should be used
You only need a single drop of DMF. :3
Hi Matthew! Thanks for this, it's quite useful; for future reference, your audio needs to be cranked way up. People can always turn the volume down but we can't turn the volume up if it's recorded way too low. Fortunately, this has subtitles, but the spelling and word capture aren't always correct
Sir. If flurine radical is so reactive then why don't it deplete the ozone layer? As we can see now a days flurine refrigerant are use. Can u please answer--
From which book we will get the data sheets for practice
organic structures from spectra by Field
do you know a channel that solves this book
I have solution of this book@@dulapeep3198
What if you want any group of atoms at a specific point?
Sir please tell if this can also help in finding the molecualr mass
idk if u got your answer yet but mass spectrometry will tell you the mass. likewise if you use this to propose the molecular formula you can calculate that on your own with a periodic table
Please tell me
Can this also help us to find the molecular mass
Thank you so much! You really helped me to understand!
You are a LIFE SAVER! Thank you a lot for this.
can you explain why p-nitro ethyl benzene on Br/Fe forms 3-Bromo nitro bezene but with Br/hv forms p-nitro Bromo ethyl benzene
Please problem no 21 c9H10o solve this is a
why wldn't it form 1-Bromo-1-phenylethylene? as tertiary carbon must be more stable than the secondary
probably because bromine is a bulky group [ hindrance with the hydrogen and carbon atoms] and you need to remove a double bond in order to add an extra bond to the carbon atom meaning no resonance so less stable so probably no
