Heartbreak & Changing Shoes 7 Weeks Out From 100k Ultramarathon Trail Race
I need you to be more consistent my guy! Put out more content!
Definitely!
Saving for my Wednesday long run.
Right on!
I sweat like crazy. So I look for something, soft material that will not stick, that is soft and plush and not a 'hard shell' alike. Can you recommend sth?
If you sweat you will definitely want a long sleeve tech layer under the jacket. I haven’t really ever had a situation where I needed it and had short sleeves on
How has the jacket held on for this time you have it? Are you still using it or found a better one?
Still my go to
Good to see you back man. 👌🏻
Hey, thanks!
What is better between these and altra‘s shoes?
🤷🏻♂️ personal preference
The toe cap can be convenient when running in the city, for stairs, side walk or other types of uneven terrain
👍🏻
Is there anything to do when they get wet? I did 100 mile and had zero issues until it was pouring down rain and my feet were soaked
Shoes with good drainage is all that has worked for me. Wet definitely makes things more complicated
Sudocrem. Apply generously.
Wish me luck on my 2nd half marathon this year wearing crocs.
Good luck
I've got one coming late oct 24, and the trousers with 25% off. I dont think i can get the same spec cheaper elsewhere. I actually wish the jacket was simpler, less zips and pockets and just a zip down the middle. Having a zip half way down to vent will be a bit flappy i think.I'm looking forward to getting it. Its made in just the next county to me.
👊🏻
nice work going there tomorrow for r2r2r! with a group of 5 going over night starting 8pm friday
Have fun!
Are these also compression socks? Do they have cushion?
Some are. Some do. They have many different designs
This was a great help Brad, I had installed it using the wrong top upper flaps. Good I watched this to check my work to discover my error !
Glad it helped!
Is this good for snow?
Never wore it in the snow. It’s not really for warmth. More of a shell
@@bradfinntrains indeed as a shell, I was curious if it’d be good on top of say an R1 fleece as a midlayer
@@mateosabandoshould he ok
@@BradFinn thank you, great video btw!
Really helpful video. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Looking forward to my r2r2r trip in May. Which watch do you have?
Garmin forerunner 955 solar
You definietly sold that vest well ! thank you
I love it!
For me, out of the 3 most popular models, OpenMove, OpenRun and OpenRun PRO, the OpenRun play the best and the loudest. OpenMove are kind of flat (the boost mode helps a tiny bit, BTW I didn't even know that there was a boost mode, and I've had them for almost a year xD). OpenRun PRO kind of have more of a richer sound, low tones seem more present, but I think the loudness leaks away due to the dual technology used here (air and bone conduction). I have not tried the PRO 2. So the OpenRun play for me the best, the loudest, and with the boost mode they sound really great. I have not tried them on the bicycle yet.
👍🏻
@@bradfinntrains today I have tested the OpenRun model on a bike. Going pretty fast, downhill, 51km/h, wind blowing into my ears like a wild beast, and the OpenPros were pretty loud when set to a max volume. When compared to OpenMove, the OpenMove were at that point very quiet. The wind was blocking the music. So basically one needs to compare "earphones" while doing outdoor activities, as the volume difference between them in indoor conditions is not so big.
I thank you for sharing your experience. From the Russian audience. High-quality content
Thanks for watching!
Because of this video. I just subscribed. Finally someone giving it straight. I’ve done only the socks and still blistered. Haven’t tried this yet. 🎉
👊🏻
I ordered a pair from Amazon before ordering any more(I went with Creepers due to the Merino Wool), and since their size recommendation system recommended a size large, that was what I ordered, and honestly I'd say they seem to fit me perfectly fine. It could be interesting to see how the medium size would compare, but since I don't have an issue with the large size, I ordered more from the Shop app, as that was the least expensive way to get 6 more. I'm used to spending $30 for a 3-4 pair set of socks, but at least with the Shop app, they cost me $15/pair instead of $20, or the $25 Injinji charges for their wool socks
👍🏻
I have buy the regular Houdini in yellow/gold for 80 € in sale. I use it for cycling and its perfect. Super light, very good fit and super functionality.
Thanks for sharing
Were you able to order this from a US website ? If so can you please share.
Not sure what you mean. I’m in the US and I ordered it from their website just like anything else I would order from a website🤷🏻♂️
The company is in the UK I wasn’t sure if there is a site you could purchase it from that ships out of the US.
@@jrkinleyoh. Not sure. I always order direct from them. They ship to the us
Brad, something I’ve found when it comes to nutrition is that they are either GMO or non-GMO with not so good ingredients. I’d love to know your thoughts on if you prioritize very holistic nutrition that has a great nutrient profile without weird ingredients. I found BPN, but they still include a few weird ingredients that I’m not too fond of, like Silica… who puts that in their supplements? Lol
If I’m being honest I don’t think to much about it. They aren’t really “nutrition” to me. They are just short term solutions to get me through a race. As long as they don’t upset my stomach in the moment I’m happy
A buddy and I did this in May, Northbound over 2.5 days. Got stranded at the Sunrise diner in NY after hiking out and couldn’t get an Uber back to the water gap. We’re doing R2R2R end of Sept. (over two days). Enjoyed the video
Yeah. I definitely should have planned a little better. All the best in the canyon! Epic trip!
Awesome information! Thank-you.
Glad it was helpful!
Great job man!!🤝
Thanks! 👍
Solid run my friend! I would LOVE to do this one day. Bucket list run for sure.
Go for it!
Agree on all counts! Thank you. They have a trail shoe in development, according to a company rep.
That’s what I’ve heard! March!!
Excellent and thorough review. Especially, since I run in a novablast as a daily trainer and like you, I prefer a wider toe box. I have high arches, neutral gait, narrow fit at mid foot, but love to have room for toe splay on long, hot runs. It befuddles me, that most running shoe companies don’t address that. Sleek is not comfortable or functional. New subscriber now
I’ve fully switched to the R1 and S1. Don’t my next 100 miler next month I’m the R1’s
Are you coming to Tesla hertz ultra this year?
Yes. I will be there. I’m doing a 100 miler on the 26th. So not sure what distance I’ll be doing. Haha
Dude you’re now one of my heroes seriously. I needed this video. Are you still going strong with the streak?
Thank you so much. I Made it a year. Then started training seriously for 100 milers and needed a day or two off here and there. Like it better without the stress of the streak. But I’ll still break 3,000 miles this year
@@bradfinntrains That’s outstanding!
Great review Brad! - Do these shoes run true to size or do people size up for them. (my feet are more regular/wide). Asking because I wore nikes a lot, and always had to size up for them.
Very true to size. I’m about to make a video on another stabilty shoe I’ve been trying that may beat the brooks out. Little pricy though. Keep and eye out for it. Still love my brooks.
When I turn my injinji outdor wool on the toe area, there are loose threads. And it got more of it after washing. I didn't wash scrub it, and I use wool detergent. I am just worried since loose thread can cause blisters.
Best of luck
Great video brother. Congrats! Training For my first 50k. Great counsel on the video. So much to learn through ultra running and overcoming adversity. Keep running the race my friend! 🙏
Thank you. Best wishes

Does the tag bother you on the neck? It seems like they placed it too high and will sit weird. Thoughts?
I’ve never even thought of the tag or considered its existence to be honest. Didnt even know it had a tag
How long did this take you? And how did you find a ride that early in the morning? I have not had any luck finding a ride for an upcoming through hike. Nice job on the hike and the video. You did a nice job showcasing the terrain.
Just about 15 hours at pretty easy intensity. Booked a ride with “ride with Maura” in advance
i figured out that intervall, speed/tempo sessions are not so good with a certain age. I only do zone 2 basis endurance training with lot of volume and have no injuries at all. Just increase mileage by 5% each week.
Thanks for sharing
What is your video recording set up?
iPhone
what's your average weekly base training mileage when not training for a race (off-season)?
35-40 miles puts me in a place the satisfies the mental joy running gives me and also allows me to just into another training block somewhere easily. My volume time wise doesn’t really change becuase I love to move. But in “offseason” I just cut running a little and add bike, swim, ski, etc
When do you do strength training? After runs (split training) or on your rest day?
I do strength on my hard running day. Tempo work/interbals/ second day of a back to back My lifting days never happen on an easy day
@@bradfinntrains ok, thank you. so hard is hard and easy stays easy.
