Looked this up because a bunch of people have been trying to recruit for the church of God at my university. One of them just let slip that they don’t even attend the university. Super sketchy.

When I found out our church was a cult , I was broken hearted. I learned that if you hold to doctrine and what not that you are not having your focus in the right place , of course our focus was to be on Jesus but I don't remember being taught about Jesus or the holy spirit. I have loved God from the very beginning . I loved all the bible story books and I loved hearing about the power of God. It was not till years later that I learned that God and Jesus are one in the same.

I understand some of what you say. I joined the Radio Church of God in 1964 and left in 1971 when I realized Herb Armstrong was full of baloney. Armstrong was a high school drop out. He copied bits and pieces of other cult churches such as Seventh Day Adventists, Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses, and men like G G Rupert, Clarence Dodd, Andrew Dugger and others. He wanted to be a big shot but failed at everything until he realized HD could start a church cult and require people to tithe. I am still troubled by that cult fifty years later.

I'm sorry so many believe it was a cult. The WCG is how God raised me and I'm 100% positive I would have ended my life by 30 if i did not have that. The worldwide church of God is where i learned anything about God. Mr Armstrong always said to not take his word for it and to prove it for yourself. If you came out with counting the cost where the cares of this world became too hard to sacrifice for God then it isn't for you. Then you move on with living life your own way - the way you choose. But don't live constantly angry about human mistakes that are bound to happen. Not one man is perfect before God's eyes except Christ while here as a man. There are scriptures to back up having to choose God's truth over your mother, father, brother, sister, husband, wife and even our own lives if God requires it. Christ did it for you and me and if that's too much to ask, then it is not the path for you. However, if you feel the need to find something wrong with the system, formula or beliefs, and become angry about them to others to draw a following, that is not biblical nor is it even Christian. One must check their motive at that point to see if they are attempting to force their own opinion upon themselves as more truthful than that what was taught. By their fruits you shall know them. Go after God with all your heart and soul (naphesh - flesh) and put God first in your life and you will have nothing but blessings. Put away self serving anger, strife and hatred. Let God lead you to do what's right in HIS eyes. Don't do what's right in your own eyes as the whole bible basically states this all the way through beginning with telling us that's what Adam did whenever he chose from the tree of what's right in man's eyes. It is the tree of death. I hope and wish the best for all and my story from 36 years past can help just one. I will not respond to anger or most anything actually and you know why. Take it to God. Don't react to me. Act in God's righteousness as He requires. Seek God while He can be found.

You are not old enough to have grown up in the world wide church of god. Plus everything you are saying is completely false. Anyone can look up the doctrines of the WCG and quickly realize that nothing you are saying is true, and nothing you said describes a cult. Name another actual cult that broadcast radio and tv programs worldwide to millions of people preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. Cults do not broadcast what they believe to outsiders. You are characterizing nominal things as some kind of life diminishing horror. The fact that you didn’t think you were in a cult until someone said it was a cult tells us a lot. You just seem like a person who wants to play victim. No one said following God’s Commandments in a secular world would be easy. It takes commitment, strength, and faith to follow God in an evil world full of paganism and Satan’s deceptions.

I am 53 and got sucked in by the plain truth magazines in the grocery store and the tv show when i was in the mid eighties. i recently realized ambassador college was only a mile and a half from the satanist jack parson's mansion in Pasadena. I have a theory that the church high up was hooked up with the intelligence agencies. When i recently learned about the partnership between the college and israel antquities dept digs in jerusalem and apparently now flurries group in oklahoma has the same agreement with the antiquities dept on digs in Jerusalem it really has me suspicious about the cult being linked up with some kind of intelligence stuff. Anyways that is just a theory of mine that i could be wrong about. Your egg lesson immediately made me think of some kind of mk ultra exercise that they did on you. i am sorry that happened to you and your family.

I'm so glad I found your video! My parents allegedly left WCG before I was born, but they still raised my brother and I with all the same doomsday theology and feast day practices(without the travel). We were still an evangelical christian family and I still always felt like an outsider even when we went to other churches. I also had no idea WCG was a cult until my 20s and I was a little bit in denial. Having left church completely, I've had to deconstruct both my own beliefs, as well as my parents beliefs and it's nice to know that it's finally okay to talk about.

My parents were both born into this church (in the 60s) and met each other at Ambassador; they left when I turned 8 or 9 (in the 90s). Deconstruction is a slow journey, and I am thankful that they had the courage to begin that journey. I got to watch my parents explore their own belief systems, grow, and evolve. I got to watch them befriend and welcome people from different religions (or no religion). But, if something is repeated to you vehemently and incessantly from the moment you are born... it doesn't easily leave your subconscious, unless you do some very intentional work. I remember my dad casually telling me once that as a child he never thought he would live past his 9th birthday (until he did of course). But, that deeply rooted fear that "the end" would come never really left him. It just became packaged into something that sounded more sophisticated and plausible... a narrative that didn't sound "culty" or "doomsday-ish" but that incorporated critical thinking, historical study, observations of current and past political unrest... a narrative that vibed even with the successful, non-religious people in his social circle. But, behind the scenes, I observed the upending... the paranoia. The incessant study. I just didn't understand it then. He decided to buy property overseas (in a rather peaceful, under-the-radar part of the world, not totally "off-grid" but tucked away in a small, quiet town), talking about the need to have alternatives, to be able to live safely and peacefully if things got "really bad." He died a few month after making the purchase. Now, I see that that 9 -year-old boy was still terrified that things might become catastrophic (at least in our part of the world)... and I recognize that that internalized belief system is a very large part of why he died. He wasn't well. Things had been slowly eroding in our home for a few years... in a way that as a teen and young adult... I simply didn't understand. The stress and fear were eating him alive. Years later, when I realized that he named the property Place of Safety (the name WCG used for the place God would harbor members of the church during end times).. it honestly broke my heart just a little bit. I'm not angry... my parents also intentionally made the choice not to angry about their childhoods... telling us that they preferred to remember the good things like community and friendships, even if they were to the best of their ability letting go of belief systems that no longer made sense to them. I am sad though. Very sad. Sad that these kinds of organization take hold of people's minds and lives in ways that sometimes never leave them. That can form the basis of how they see the world... they can deeply affect their mental well-being and that must be constantly unraveled. Sad that a narrative of doom and fear fed week after week to a child from the moment he was born... ultimately played a significant part in taking from me someone that I loved (and love) very, very much.

I joined this horrible cult just as i was entering my teen years which unfortunately is the same time schizophrenia is known to show up which for me displayed itself with isolation which eventually led to a suicide attempt and then VOILA! this church appears in my life looking like a way to turn around my recent run of bad situations. At first it was great everyone was amazed at the turn around in my life like i was some sort of religious wonderkin but all i had to do was like three wrong things and next thing i went from religious superhero to worldly supervillain sinner. Forget that i was just a teenager who attempted suicide just a year ago or how good i was doing since then. All it took is a few mistakes and BAM! instant outcast and i was all alone again as i was not allowed to hang out with family members who were part of the church and i was always treated like a bad influence, a follower of the devil which i eventually became as i saw more commonsense and acceptance reading Anton Lavey's THE SATANIC BIBLE. It was a few decades of fighting off all the doomsday guilt that was put in my mind as i would hear about world events and wonder if i was wrong about leaving the church. Now it know it was all a bunch of bunk. Its too bad so many good people were manipulated by such money hungry con artists. Glad life in all its greatness and sunshine has freed me. Sometimes all it takes is living life to see the truth. Best wishes Travis Lee on finding the completeness that is you. For me it was when i finally reached my thirties that i saw how things repeat themselves and there will always be war and peace LOL.

I came into contact with the worldwide Church of God when I was around 17 years old. I became a baptized member in 1972. Mr Armstrong never never claimed to be a messiah.... it just did not happen furthermore the WCG teachings that came directly from scripture saved me from making some very bad choices in my life. And my whole life has been richer because of the scriptural teachings of the worldwide Church of God that were in place until Mr Armstrong's death.

As a naive, religious teen I got sucked in by Garner Ted Armstrong over the radio. (Later it came out he was a drunk and a serial adulterer.) Herbert W Armstrong then took over (again.) I was fooled by his speaking skill and grandfatherly pretense. I foolishly let him "explain" the bible to me. The nice WWCG people made me feel I belonged. We were urged to naively trust Armstrong and his ministers. (Childlike and dependent.) I knew God had made me gay but knew better than to say so.My cult friends were sweet but brainwashed. Losing my job and feeling 100% out of place wore me out. The 3rd Tithe Law bankrupted me.I was always frustrated. Blew up easily. Cried.' Felt worthless.Had no money. In ' 83 I left cold turkey. ' Lost 98 % of my friends. But life got better and better. In Japan in the 90s I returned to Christ not some church. Slowly I deprogrammed myself. I didn't even realize how much I'd hated and sabotaged myself.

This literally makes no sense. Every single denomination within Christianity has effectively the same End game scenario. There are only minor variations between the denominations. While some believe in torment forever and a lake of fire others believe eternal destruction. ALL OF THEM teach Revelation! Which of course is where we get Escatology from in the first place. The author of this video doesn't appear to understand christianity.

Thanks for sharing yr experience of the church however i strongly disagree that it was a cult all religion's have rules that define them which would make the catholic church and Islam the biggest cults of all with their constant rituals Armstrongs teachings were based on the old testament hence all the food laws and if it was a cult like every other religion at least it was a cult for God. As a kid growing up in the church yes its very hard with all its rules i did my first full fast at the age of 6 however as an adult i find it very hard to join another denomination purely because non of them come close to upholding the truth quite like we did as it stated in the bible i always compare and non of them match up so i just live my life in the best way i can ialso eat all the amazing meats and fish that was disallowed in the church. As jesus sai " IT IS NOT THAT WHICH GOES INTO A MAN THAT DEFILES HIS BUT THAT WHICH COMES OUT OF HIM" . Wishing you all the best Litch from South Africa
