Добавлен 1 авг 2018
My name is Josh. I live and work in New York City, but would rather be outside in the woods. I created this channel to document my trips so I could relive the adventures while I'm trapped in this concrete jungle. Additionally, I love to talk about gear that I use and love. If you're constantly trying to Escape the Indoors yourself, please subscribe and I will try to continue to bring you new adventures and gear talk as much as I can!

Yosemite Backpacking | Hetch Hetchy

Record snowfall and road closures made planning a backpacking trip in Yosemite a bit difficult this year. Hetch Hetchy was not our original plan, but did not disappoint. Deep snow and flooding at elevation again altered our trip, but it was beautiful nonetheless. #yosemite #backpacking #outdoors #camping #relaxing
Chillaxing in the Catskills

This video was recorded in November, 2020. Just having a good night in the Catskills. I introduce you to the best ramen-bomb! This was the trip that I killed my Canon camera....whoops. I don't always film my trips and often when I do I will forget or neglect to edit and upload it. I've decided to go back and edit some of these trips, which may not be the most exciting or even complete. Whatever...

Winter Bushwhacking in the Catskills - Hammock Backpacking
Просмотров 5093 года назад
My friend and I set out to do a 15 mile loop in the Catskills that includes 5 bushwhack peaks. Turned out we got quite a bit of snow the night before and while beautiful, made things slow going. We didn't make it to our designated campsite and was forced to stealth camp at 3500ft, embracing the wind. Due to the wet snow and cold, I didn't get as good or as much footage as I would have liked, bu...

Great idea!
Heading out the second week of September thanks for all the inspiration
Enjoy! It’s a great section of trail and September will be a beautiful time to do it!
Hi! I hope all is well, so you need permission from the muddy pond landowners to camp here? Thank you!
Best video I’ve seen yet on the 100!! Very well done fellas!!! ❤
Thanks! It was a good time :-)
Favorite shot 15:17 in to the video. What program do you use to edit your videos?
Ha thanks! Can’t believe it’s been 3 years since posting this video. Hope to get back out there regularly again soon #lifehappens. Final Cut Pro is what I use. I did use Davinci Resolve for a while, but everything is easier with Final Cut if you are a Mac User.
@@escapetheindoors Yeah I'm learning Davinci. I's no joke. I see improvement with each project but there's still a lot to take in. Looking forward to seeing more from you soon!
Spent 6 days going from Sonora Pass to Hetch Hetchy on the trail a few years back. Epic.
Hetch Hetchy - the Yosemite that no-one ever heard of.
Exceptional. Thank you. I live only a few miles from Jefferson NH and I'm going to do the KRT south from Rt 110 to Jefferson this summer.
Great video! Which month did you do this?
I believe it was July
Just get a sternum strap pouch daaaang
This was awesome man. Showed me everything I needed to know about to make a decision. Cheers mate
Thanks for watching! Although I loved this bag, the top zipper eventually broke :o( I tend to somehow break everything though.
this is an amazing video - so peaceful and beautiful, it looks like another world! the way you put it together is perfect and is really moving (gave me chills multiple times). as I dream about next year's hiking season, this was an awesome watch!
Hey thanks for the comment!!! Hoping to get back out there regularly soon #lifehappens. Thanks again for the watch/comment ❤
Vernon falls trail?
You are very patient and persistent sir! I can appreciate your hard work and focus. That being said, I’m a twig stove addict and my name is -- yada yada🤣🤣 i like the nano with xcase and trangia as backup for wet wood and the 5” firebox for car camping. I also have a solo stove lite which works great it’s just not made in America. Hope you keep havin fun in the woods cuz ultimately thats what we’re after!😉👍🏼
Forgot to mention what a gorgeous site that is.
I love my Darian, paired with my Arrowhead TQ and Arrowhead UQ. I just subscribed to you. I am looking forward to doing the Midstate, in Ma. and the New England Trail, Based on my health🤞🤞
Broooooo you saved me I was racking my brain for days. I just got into backpacking but Im addicted to my EDC fanny pack (fjallraven ulvo). This is so good thankl you
super stoked to find your channel and you hiking with your bostie! i've had many and also love to hike but have always only done day short local hikes. Now I've got my new girl shes 13 weeks and i'm gearing up to do some backpacking and overnight trips this coming spring summer season. so I was really happy to see that yes a boston terrier can be a trail dog! :) we've had one hike already and i did carry her in her pack part of the way but she did really good!!
Excellent video really like your location nice setup. It looks like your having more success with the hexagon stove
Ha yea the stove is awesome. Still think the added holes help a ton though 😊 Thanks for watching!!
Just found your channel. I watched your attempts at lighting the hexagon stove. I think this little stove is amazing amazing. I couldn't believe it when you drilled holes round it. All you had to do was keep the door open & only close it partially or fully to cool it down. I hope since you made this video you've had more success.
Ha. I was going to say, that bailout route is no easy walk. Some swampy stuff there. 😆 nice video and nice you can wrap Kaia up like a scarf. 😂
Great vid! What were your planned overnight spots? You pushed through Guyot right? Planning this for next year, and had that as our first site.
Normally if going counter clockwise I camp on the ridge after Guyot before south twin the first night and at Garfield pond the second night. Last time I did it was clockwise and we stayed at Liberty springs and the intersection of Garfield Ridge and Gale River Trail (there’s a tiny campsite there)
Great video 👏 📹
Stunning shots of serene wilderness along with the relaxing music looks like an epic experience. Loved watching my brother Charles enjoy the great outdoors. 😊
Nicely done video. My daughter got married at Tenaya Lodge at Yosemite this past March. Missed actually getting in the park due to a large snowfall. It sure looks like great backpacking.
Wow, Yosemite looks incredible through your lens! Beautiful filming and editing and a great adventure!
Thanks for watching!
He returns! Looks like a fun trip - I love all these areas out west that are desert one minute and snowy mountain forest the next. Hope you get back into making videos. That was one big pine cone.
Thanks Seth!! Life changes/work have taken up much time. Trying to carve out trip and video time again. Thanks for watching!
Awesome!
This is an awesome hack .
How long can the Boston hike for?
Hello from Vorarlberg Austria 🇦🇹 I thought Ikea had a similar system 🤔 Kind regards Leopold 🤗
Thanks for this, I am doing this end of July and so excited
Have a great time!
Genius mate I immediately tried this out with my bum bag ( yes that’s what we call fanny packs over here fanny means something quite different in the uk ) and it works like a charm ,keep up the good work
So well done. I’m doing the 100MW this July and this encourages me
How was your hike? Sorry I didn’t respond a year ago! #lifehappens Hope it was a good time and thanks for watching!
glad to see some others enjoying our VT winters as I do
It's too small for a big guy
Dude you should have gotten the firebox nano. I have 3 of them cuz I don’t like to repack different backpacks. They are so much better then the vargo stove.
Truth.
This is the second time I’ve watched this :)
Thanks for watching! Hopefully I can get time to start uploading videos again someday!
Good hack to know.
Wow 👍that's a big difference 😉a game changer😉😄
Brilliant. The easiest hack - and yet never occurred to me! I bet that'd be great for biking, too, helping to offset the water bladder.
This pack would be perfect for winter with detachable belt and proper (non-center) loop. I have similar pack from a private garage, but i can just use belt to pull the sled(and have pockets with snacks, navigation and other things on me), while the pack rides on sled. When i need to carry the pack on myself, i assemble it back.
I know this is an older video but if you haven't checked it out there's actually a way to modify the pack and add load lifters onto the y strap , I'm thinking of doing it myself
I have not attempted to but I have come across either an article or another RUclipsr who has done it.
What's your opinion on the recommended user weight by Northern Lites? I'm 200lbs+gear but want to avoid 30" long and wide for reasons of weight and agility. The Elite are rated for 190lbs. How did you choose?
I couldn't choose so I have both haha. It really depends how much you want to float. I'm 175ish and my gear is about 25lbs in winter. I'm also 5'7" so I found the Elites to be more fun/maneuverable. If the terrain is flat/rolling hills I'll prob take the Rescues, however most of the time I'm opting for the Elites.
Also keep in mind there is very little traction so if you're going up hills or run into ice you need to be pretty limber haha
This is a great and simple hack! Thank you! I was concerned when you attached it to your shoulder straps, but you clarified to disconnect. I'm sure that step is forgotten evert once in a while.
I replaced the line locks with Uniloops from Optech/USA. A little less adjustable, but once you get it set, they stay in place and it's a bit easier to disconnect/reconnect.
If you remember, about how long did it take you to hike that 17.5 miles on first day. I know you had to go back 2 miles to get camera, but rough estimate from start of hike to Ouluska lean to?
Oh gosh. I think we started at 8am and probably got to camp around 5ish.
@@escapetheindoors thanks!!
Do you remember trail names and parking spots? Looking to do this or something similar in a few weeks (preferably a loop). Have the AMC maps but I'm not from the area. Thx
We left a car at Starr King trailhead and then drove to and started from the South Pond Recreation area.
@@escapetheindoors Thx so much. Appreciate it.
@@escapetheindoors I may have to loop this somehow from one of the 3 trail-heads at York Pond Rd (one car). Did you see any other good / legal stealth sites besides Willard’s Notch? Any bug pressure in August? Thx again
@@ginnyblanc9735 the big issue I remember was water sources. We got water at Unknown pond (where we camped), we had to hike a little bit down Bunnell Notch Trail to get water (so if you can find a spot around there it might work). Of course you're parking a car around there you could just stash water in the car. There was also a stream at Willard's notch which is why it's a good place to camp. I don't remember seeing any water after Willard's Notch until the end though.
@@escapetheindoors Awesome. Appreciate it!
Great idea, thanks!
This is very helpful, hope you keep doing the content with your Boston.
Great idea for weight balance too!
