I think I better understand leitmotif now, but maybe just for more in-your-face situations. For years now I've been saying Yasunori Mitsuda leverages leitmotif in Chrono Trigger, but I'm still not sure if that's correct to say. I guess these days people are more familiar with Undertale, which uses similar techniques in composing different songs to be connected. Is all that connected music leitmotif? It takes a bit of a stretch and interpretation to name specific story stuff, but it sure is the same notes contextualized to different atmospheres. I'm pretty sure the reason us without deep music knowledge fail to distinguish "theme" is because it is such a broadly used english word. The Imperial March theme is certainly easy to distinguish, which can also be considered to be the theme of Darth Vader, who has themes about giving up humanity for control, which plays a big part in the overall themes of Star Wars, though the theme parks try to not carry that oppressiveness.
