If you'd told me that this was going to happen, even last month I would have laughed in your face.

I saw the red arrows at the weekend and couldn't resist setting the footage to some obligatory organ music - played by yours truly :-)

"When we have the greatest need" / "Before Your Throne I approach" BWV 668 JS Bach This is a truly beautiful piece of music which for some reason I found really difficult to perform. It took me 3 session (over 1 hour each day) trying to record this before I was happy with the result; a balance between playing with feeling but with mistakes, and playing robotic but technically correct. You would...
"Erbarm' Dich Mein, O Herr Gott", BWV 721 - JS Bach
"Have mercy on me, O Lord" Bach organ prelude played by Paul Gibbs. Shown with a selection of images on the theme of mercy. My humblest apologies for the speed of this, I learned it slower but the music said crotchet = 60. Only now do I realise this instruction is clearly wrong - the playing is good but the tempo has removed the soul; maybe I'll revisit it another time. Played on Hauptwerk Virt...
Why Play This On The Organ?
I use the weekly hymn list at church for my organ practice schedule. This week was an organ week but for some reason there was this worship tune more suited to piano with bass guitar. Being the bass guitarist (on music group weeks) I was doubly disappointed that the organ was missing the bass line. So here's one verse just to show it's possible even if it doesn't make it any more suitable. I ca...
JS Bach, "Gelobet Seist Du, Jesu Christ" BWV 723

JS Bach Chorale Prelude "Gelobet Seist Du, Jesu Christ" - "May'st Thou be praised, Christ Jesus" This felt a little fast to play but it's grown on me a lot in editing. For those that are interested in how I record this. I use a £50 camera and do a single live take, at the same time the audio is recorded direct from the virtual organ (Hauptwerk) to a wav file. Other camera angles are mimed. Ever...

Four part choral piece for S.A.T.B with Organ accompaniment. Composed by Thomas Tallis (c. 1515 - 1585) (Arr by Fred Pratt Green 1903 - 2000) I love Tallis and have wanted to perform this for some time but have failed to persuade anyone to do it. So Good Friday I decided to do it myself, and what better a day. Having waited all day for the computer I started at 9pm still intending to finish bef...

Your bench is out of tune.
I bet those socks stink!
Lovely Yamaha organ! But that creaky-bench needs to be repaired!
Like the creaky stool.
Lovely. Thanks.
wonderful! so good it has got a big pedal keyboard!
Thank you for this, it's a really nice arrangement - what part of this did Tallis write, and did he use this text? Would be great to learn more about it and perform it if possible!
Search for "Third mode melody" for the music. The words are by Fred Pratt Green according to hymnary.org.
are you using hauptwerk or any othet organ emulation software?
Just Hauptwerk. I can't remember which organ - most likely the default St Anne's Moseley.
+Paul Gibbs anyway it sound very good even if maybe it isn't a philologic execution by the side of the organ choice. :)
Thanks for sharing this alternate interpration. At this speed the melody of the cantus firmus is more highlighted. Even Bach may have played many of his pieces in a manner unconventional.
Have a search through ebay every week.... for a few months; it took a month or two for me to find that but it took me a further year to find the classical organ that I now use (at a price I could afford) .
Where can I get one of these?
Whau... In 1976 i had one of these.. A wonderfull (But very heavy) organ
Thanks for your comment. The tempo 'irregularity' is meant to be rubato in attempting to play the piece dramatically. It's very interesting comparing with your version - it's obvious in mine that I am at my technical limit in places and perhaps should have allowed a little less pace at the loss of some drama; yours is technically clean and rhythmically tight and the music washes over. Either way its a great piece :-)
It sounds very good. The tempo is a bit irregular, though (you can check my version of it in my channel, if you please).
On reflection you may have a point, our church is either very traditional (c 1700-1890) or safe music group (so mostly 70s & 80s worship tunes), so the idea of this on the organ really was very odd to me but I am inclined to agree that outside that odd feeling it is quite nice.
this song actually sounds nice on an organ. i have heard others play this before on organ and it sounded beautiful.
I think it was about £28 don't expect more unless its immaculate.
Good grief, you look in good shape for 39! Well done.
Yo sounds awesome, I got this link off juggledb, i was the crazy prof organist guy at BJC2010. Good work learning whole fugue, you should try to get access to a local church organ cos the real thing obviously sounds immense in comparison to electric organs. You should try the Widor Toccata too.
