Just realized this whole paper thing was just a huge distraction to keep her from noticing the bobby pin. All paper would have the smudging problem since the ink is still fresh on the paper. This dude was honestly really good at accepting his situation and knowing what to say to distract annie from whatever psycho plan she is concocting.
The best horror stories are primarily psychological in nature. With the exception of one of two infamous scenes, the first involving his legs being broken, the primary brilliance of this movie is that it doesn't require more than two scenes of explicit, physical violence for it to work (although there is a third involving an investigator).. The second act of violence, committed by the victim in the finale is why this film really works. Over and over again the film presents escapes,.. a way out for the protagonist to escape insanity and hell. And they all fail, over and over again. But in the end, when that typewriter comes down on his tormentor's head, fireworks explode and if not physically, but emotionally the viewer has a "Fist in the air, F-yea" moment." The ultimate payoff. Also, there is great irony and symbolism in the use of the typewriter as a weapon in that particular case. Brilliant cinema.
Watched this a few days ago after a while. Honestly it's one of those movies you can easily watch again after a few years..! The performance of both main characters is top notch 👌
The only movie of Steven King To have an Oscar winner and I’ll tell you in high school no one believed in his talent but $500 million and superstar him he did it!! The movie is flawless, but if I was the Director producer, I would’ve had James conn‘s character driving up in an old 1984 Jeep Cherokee cause it was snowy and then he sees like an animal like a deer run in front of him and he loses control and he spins out of control in Maine New Hampshire, it was a 1964 Mustang that was ridiculous. I was just ridiculous. You never gonna make it on those roads in a Mustang. He should at least had a Cherokee and got startled when the when he looked down and then he looked up and maybe a deer jumps and just misses the car and loses control that’s all I’m saying 😅
Okay, but even if it's not smart, people still try challenging roads like that in sports cars in real life. By contrast, a mustang is pretty good. What's shocking is when people try it with something like a Ferrari and then crash. This setup is probably better than a deer, because a deer encounter is too open to chance, while losing control of a sports car in bad weather is highly likely. You can only use the "Luck" element so many times, and encountering this woman was already enough of the plot revolving around chance. Anyway, this is how the book was written, and while they changed a couple things, probably so that it's not as gory, I imagine they'd want to stay as true as possible to the plot.
People don't talk about this movie enough, first thing's first, Stephen King is beyond a genius. Second, James Caan and Kath Bates give such perfect powerhouse performances. It's an absolutely incredible culmination of creative media, and Rob Reiner's last few good movies before he did North and nosed-dived in mediocrity.
That’s a really good post and I was just saying that to myself he had a hell of a run stand by me. He had this movie obviously the one with the Marines, few good men when Harry Met Sally, and then after that, it was bomb after bomb after bomb and now he’s retired. He really really really bad and I don’t this day. I don’t know what people saw that stupid script north that was just asinine.
As an author, this is my idea of hell. Imagine having a book you wrote and considered your masterpiece and then have a psycho cunt make you rewrite it.
I'm not an author. . . Yet, but there is a book I've been aiming to write. I pretty much have it all planned out aside from the small details. Anyway, the ending will probably make a lot of people unhappy, haha. I could see Annie kidnapping me.
This doesn't make sense with the book I've read this book 4 times and it's not the same I'm a very favorite fan of Stephen King and I would like to watch what I've read sorry just want to Iet you you know that Stephen King is a awesome writer so his movies should be how he writes them sorry but the books agreed better then the movies
This movie was great. I almost wanted her to kidnap me just to kill her. She's my kind of crazy.. lol 🤣 I'll tell you what's the matter.. You're a crazy loony.
In the book, there was a detail that Annie asked, why the smudging matters, you are not going to rub your fingers while reading and Paul explained, that you do have to go back and forth to check story line and the papers would rub on each other that way.
1:37. If you notice she actually lifts the wheelchair up into place at the desk. Obviously with him in it. A small detail but it speaks to her strength and .... control.
This movie makes me aught, because I used to work with a nurse who was EXACTY Ike Kathy Bates' character Annie Wilkes. And She was very open about being Elvis Presley's Number One Fan!
I just noticed something new about this scene that I never paid attention to before. The hairpin on the floor that Paul notices, which was his only way to unlock the door and get out of the room. Knowing Annie for how crafty and clever that she is to find out and expose what Paul is doing to escape or to prevent him from escaping, I'm surprised that she let a hairpin drop on the ground for him to use.
Hobbling would have shattered his ankles. That would take a lot of surgeries and possibly amputation. Being handicapped for life. Reality.

_"I expect nothing less than your masterpiece..."_ Cool. No pressure whatsoever.
Married Life
Yeah... They're definitely going to remake this someday. 😂

Wonder why she’s not married. She’s such a good caretaker.
As much as Bates is the show stealer I actually watch this movie because I love Caans acting.

I wouldn't block her drive in.
Women... amirite?
Yes she’s phenomenal
MISTER MAN😂
I always wanted to visit the other side of the room." Love the sarcasm 🤣
music is too loud, I can't use it for my classroom..
Professor John Frink’s sarcasm detector would have blown off.
James' acting was no less than Kathy's. The academy as usual ignored him.

Why does this lady remind me of my wife?

This is too much violence for me to watch… but Kathy Bates is a great actress.

Do you leave this comment on every scene of this movie that you have watched on RUclips?
