Nerdrotic and Critical Drinker DISSING “Alien: Romulus” is PURE HYPOCRISY 🤥
Nerdrotic and The Critical Drinker, two extremely popular RUclips channels, attacked and ridiculed Alien: Romulus, the latest outing in the Alien franchise that’s having huge financial and critical success.
Is this vitriolic mockery deserved?
And are they being objective and honest in their reviews?
The answer to both questions is a resounding
NO F***ING WAY
and I’ll explain why in this video.

    Interesting video. Making a sequel to an iconic movie, like Alien, can be a poisoned chalice. Aliens managed to pull off an excellent sequel, but all the subsequent films have been a disappointment. I actually enjoyed Romulus - it's not perfect by any means, but it is probably the best of the sequels since Aliens. The problem with a franchise is that they need to be directed by Schrödinger - at once giving the fans what they demand from the previous canon, but also treading new ground. This is especially true of the Star Wars films - the only decent sequel so far has been Rogue One - and it is also an 'in between se/prequel'. It had the boldness to move away from most of the established characters and dared to be much darker - and it remains my favourite SW film as a result, as does its spinoff series Andor. Romulus isn't quite there, but it makes a fair attempt. There are issues, certainly. I didn't object to Rook's (ash's) animation as much as the need for him to spout seemingly endless exposition. I also thought the fan-pleasing lines - particularly "Get away from her, you b*tch" to be pretty cringey. Making a franchise sequel is an object lesson in the old adage of not being able to please everyone all the time. So why do it? Well, show business is - above everything else - a business. You are not dealing with a load of rich nerd backers who don't mind if it succeeds or fails, but investors that want to see a return on their money. Sequels and remakes, particularly of successful films, are pretty much guaranteed to put money in the bank. The backers of the original Alien were taking a real punt - and it paid off with one of the best films of the decade. Producers of Scott's later film Bladerunner must have thought they were in for a similar success, but - brilliant and iconic as the movie is - it struggled to make its money back. Hollywood makes sequels in the hope they will make money. The days of a new, young, hungry director like Ridley Scott being given the reins to make something like Alien are few and far between. But they are worth waiting for. If, in the meantime, you want to spend time bombarding media with negativity barely hiding your own prejudices - have at it. Just don't kid yourself you are adding anything. Thanks DarkSpotting - you earned my subscription 😎👍

      I agree with many things you say. But including Schrödinger into the mix is kind of talking against your point when you have seen the drinkers review and this review of his review. The best way to explain is. I have no problem that they make sequels or remakes. I wish they didnt but I will not start a war from them doing so... But the problem with Romulus and most movies made today is that there is zero originality to them. They think they are original by bringing us changes to the original film but it makes me question - specially watching Romulus if they actually understganf the universe. They choose to use shit from the old films that was the only stuff fans hated back then. I remember when all of the sequels came out and I read about them for weeks because I love the universe. And what people hated the most with the third film is the ending and beginning. He did not re-use that in this straight from the 3 film but what he did was making his own version of that with the same terrible result. If they made a remake og sequel to the 3 alien film in a prison with the same plot line withouyt Weaver - using old men, without weapons, kind of bad guys your following against alien it would have been great. people dig that from the third. Secondly he choose to use the only thing everyone out there hated with the 4th film. Create a sub monster - mutated alien monster. I have no idea what the point of this is? We already have perfect aliens to be used in a film. We dont need the rest... Its stupid, it has never worked in any alien film and fans have always said it is a terrible choice. Then he went into the explanation of the black stuff from Prometheus that was the thing absolute everyone who criticezed that film hated. And he choose to do that in Romulus - and reason for that is so he could go into the mutation... I find that so freakin weird and it makes me wonder if Hollywood has turned very low intelectual. I can break down almost every choice of Romulus looked from a alien fan. Looked from a movie fan. Or just a regular audience and give you exact reason why this movie is terrible bad in my book. And I am sad that people like it. Just like the evil dead remake. I found it very bland and very forced. And to use your saying about Schrödinger. Well that is about 2 different sides of one thing. But Alien Romulus is one side. They use all the stuff that most of the peoiple out there hate. And they could have picked the other side. But they want to please the people who get pleased all the time from hollywood crap. Braindead entertainment that makes zero new questions, used terrible cgi stuff and on top of that cast a film with characters that dont fit the world and makes everything 100 times more worst for the audience to enjoy. Ps. I hope I did not offend anyone because in this chat it seems like people get offended just by reading statements against hollywood or the stuff we are getting these days... A. they

    Alien Romulus was a really good movie, made by a great director, with a good cast. It wasn’t perfect nor groundbreaking, but it was good. I agree with some of the criticisms given by TCD & Nerdrotic, like the fact that there are too many memberberries and the cgi for Rook wasn’t great. But criticisms like “they’re gen-z so I don’t believe they work” is just lazy mindless criticism. Them using stuff like that as an excuse to not like the film makes it hard to take them seriously as film critics at times. If you like the alien franchise or sci-fi thriller/horror movies then go watch the film and decide what you think for yourself. TCD and Nerdrotic are good critics but nowhere near perfect.

    I dont know Critical drinker review of Alien Romolus. But if this was all he had to say from what you shown I would say I agree with everything he said. I went to the cinema with really low expectation and I went out of the cinema with a terrible bad experience. The biggest problem with the film if you look away from logic and trops from the film universe that was already astablished. I can go into that as well. But most of the stuff Drinker already said in your video. But the absolute biggest problem with the film is that the film has no universe that actually is belivable. The characters are forced into this thing just because they wanted to make something that hit the younger audeince. You mention Sigourney Weaver that she was 28. Well she was still not a leader in the fist film. She looked and acted like a grown up and she was a female that actually capitilazed on the feminine thing in all the horror. Something females and men can cope with. The crew in general was working class men in the age bracket of 30 to 50 ish and that actually make sense for the universe it is building. In Romulus it felt more like a spoiled gang of brats. I did not believe in the aliens at all also when i compare them with all the old films. This is mostly because the face huggers is so easy to beat down. And the aliens themself acts more like cats than actually mean creatures that is out to kill anyone. I will keep it like this so far because I can go into the stuff about the movie using the 3 things fans of the series before hated the most from Alien 3, Alien Ressurection and prometheus. Actually the only 3 things the film used that fans actually hate from does films. I am much harder then Drinker on Romulus. Because I will take it so far that I actually hated the film. The film was almost a mock on the alien films. And I have no idea why it is made. To use statements that the movie is critical and pupulical success is bullcrap. Many films are that. To be straight forward most films are that actually. But it tells zero about quality. Rotten tomatoes is far from something that reflects on the people and the people like me, and you are sheeps that follows. but even sheeps has taste and brain power to think after we seen something. Sorry bad engish. Not my first languish

    Dude. I trust both of them because most of their reviews are spot on. I actually thought Civil war wasn't a bad movie and enjoyed it compared to the Drinker but apart from that he's kinda spot on. The problem with movies these days are the fact it's basically plagiarised and nothing new. There are some good ones and Drinker has stated so eg. Topgun: Maverick. That was a fun movie. However, Alien movies since Aliens have just gotten progressively worse. There is nothing new. It's basically the same plot or a combination of a few different movies. I haven't seen this movie but if Drinker didn't like it, I'm gonna guess I probably wont either. I didn't think we need any movies about Alien origins and yet we got Prometheus and the other one. Also, you state that the gestation of the Alien isn't known. It is though. The movie Alien gives a very timeframe. About 8 hours or so. Also, if you are going to use phrases used in another movie, you've already failed. I can't thing of a situation in any movie apart from Star Wars which was in itself just a SW universe catch phrase "i've got a bad feeling about this' that a catch phrase or quote re-used as ever worked. Basically the bar is so low that anything mediocre is successful. Something they could do if they wanna do an Alien movie is do a movie where they go to the alien home planet or a planet infested by aliens to try to eradicate them or something that isn't the same goddamned story. I won't be surprised if I don't enjoy this movie as I really think they should've just stopped with Aliens. I don't need to watch any more alien movies. I want something new. There are so many other great fantasy and sci fi fiction out there why do we need another alien movie? Read the comments most people agree with me. Still, I will give the movie a chance.

SO the reason this one might seam great is just because it's a bit better then the crappy ones before it, but it's still not as good at the first or second movie in the series! A less anecdotal example, the state of Star Wars movies, the first trilogy great, awesome , more please, the second trilogy aka the Prequels, mediocre at best, with it's strong points here and there, in comes the Sequels, so bad over all from both a story telling PoV as well as lore wise and a technical PoV since the trilogy before it had better effects with les of a budget! Suddenly the Prequels are not that bad, suddenly they are actually OK they go above average all the way to good. Why did this happen? because the Sequel Trilogy was just so bad that it made the movies before it seam great. same here it's not good, it's just better then poop. Granted that might mean that in the future they can make better sequels, but you have to ask your self, do you really want "Aliens Infinity"? Because with every movie the lore gets more and more meh, it just exists, it's not good it's not bad it just uninteresting. @@DarkSpotting that’s YOU being dishonest. Disney is not their sworn enemy. That’s melodramatic. Disney is disappointing them and has been for a decade. Erect all the straw men you like, but none of them are Will or Gary. Those two expect Disney to fail because failure is modern Disney’s track record, but 9 times out of 10 “It’s bad because Disney did it” is a retrospective justification. For example: “This live action remake was a soulless, poorly written, poorly acted, poorly directed facsimile of the animated film that inspired it, better suited as propaganda for social revolution than entertainment, but what was I expecting? Disney have done this 17 of the last 18 times they made a celebrated cartoon in live action”. The “it’s bad because it was done the Disney way” argument is the conclusion to the observation that it was bad on its own merit, and on top of that it’s bad in the same way every single predecessor was bad. Alien was a tanking Fox property, Disney bought it, Disney (and Scott) squandered it. It was to be expected, Alien hasn’t had a good entry in the last nearly 4 decades. Romulus is the fusion of a franchise in free fall and a studio in free fall. Of course it was going to be a stupid, retcon and contrivance infested embarrassment.

      Oh ok. Sorry but I got that mixed up because of the latest video about T3 I made! 😅 Anyway, I think the first teaser does not feature scenes that will be in the movie. My impression - and I might be 100% off the mark, of course! - is that that teaser was simply meant to suggest the setting and tone for the upcoming movie. I'm quite convinced that there will be a scene involving a child being murdered by Art, but it will be a that shows his first kill, Emily Crane, and how Sienna's father witnessed it. I agree with you that it's a sensitive topic. Many horror channels pointed out that Art has already done it in "All Hallow's Eve", but that was actually off-screen. If it does happen in this movie I doubt it will be something on par with Allie's bedroom scene. I will see the movie anyway because I am invested in Sienna and Joanathan as characters and in awe of Leone's creativity, but I'll probably cover my eyes during that scene.

    Theory and question : 1. After NAVARRO is contaminated by a FaceHugger we will see the first Xenomorph. 2. The Xenomorph from the first ALIEN enters the Renaissance Station in Cocoon... and wreaks Carnage among the survivors. 3. RAIN and ANDY discovered a corridor with Gooey matter, a Xenomorph Nest like in Station LV-426 from ALIENS. The question will we see a Queen? 4. RAIN in a Spacesuit 🧑‍🚀 initiated the destruction of the Station. We see in a stop of the image an arm which holds it, it is possible to see a Xeno Queen or another species 5. Renaissance Station Crashes. 6. We see a Ship at the bottom of the Ship Crash scene The NARCISSUS with Ellen RIPLEY and John's in Sleep continuing their journey. 7. Rain and ANDY survived ?

      Alright, lots of material here! In order: 1. This is spot on according to the trailers 2. The recovery of the specimen from the first movie looks also extremely probable by now, but I'm more inclined to think it wasn't it to wreak havoc on the station but either the other specimens biologically engineered from its dna or Ash himself by releasing them on unsuspecting scientists (I have less elements to sustain this theory but it's also a possibility within the frame of the main theory expressed in my video). 3. Not entirely sure about the Black Goo being in the corridor otherwise there would be far more chaos, but you're right about the similarity with Station LV-426's nest! The question about seeing a queen in the film is a million dollar question and I really really hope we will! 4. That's an eagle-eye you've got! Good observation! it could be 5. Also very likely 6. Also an eagle-eye observation! didn't notice it 7. I hope they both survive and I hope there will be sequels to this movie to further explore these characters that I'm already fond of Thanks for your comment and points! Very interesting, makes me even more hyped for it. I do have another Theory I’d like to suggest and it’s been gestating (hah bad joke) in my mind for a while. What if Ridley Scott’s original intentions for a 3rd prequel would be that David either has taken over weyland yutani and has made lesser replicants of himself I.E Ash or maybe David is just Ash. From the ashes rises the phoenix and so forth. But that’s probably a huge stretch. I would love to see what happens in the 7th movie in the franchise. Also just insane to think about.

    • @DarkSpotting
      @DarkSpotting Месяц назад

      That's a cool theory, and it makes sense because Ridley Scott's third entry in the prequel series was, imho, most certainly going to tie up at least some loose ends regarding the corporation on earth and David's overarching role. In fact, David and the ship at the end of Covenant were most likely headed to Earth, so kudos to your reasoning. In fact, I am fairly certain that the Alien TV show that just wrapped filming is going to feature even more connections to the prequels and movies in the series as well as being focused on AI inside Weyland-Yutani. Thanks for the comment!
