My Advice for Older Workers Looking for a New Job
Im between 30-40 and already get told often "we are looking for 18-25 so that we can shape them for the company" so yeah, after 30 it's already almost impossible nowadays. Been looking for a job since 2013 but have to study instead but the money for studying is not that much. They want years of experience just for the basic cleaning jobs etc...
Man, that's rough! It’s crazy how they want experience for the simplest jobs.
I'd return to work for the correct fitment, but it's not technology at all, it's that employers don't want someone more experienced and knowledgeable providing guidance. I retired last year as a Senior Principle Engineer from a known rocket manufacturer. I don't need the money, but I hate hearing of problems like Boeing's.
It's unfortunate that companies sometimes overlook valuable experience. I am sure your insights could make a significant difference at Boeing. Thanks for commenting.
Lol... welp, those employers will just end up with gen z kids who don't give a rats, and will walk out of a job in an instant. Karma is real I guess🤷♂️🤷♂️
LOL - Yep
Get a job thru an agency most of the time its over the phone so they dont see you once you turn up for work and actually see you perform their bias will changef you're over 50 60 humans don't want you in workplace we are scumbag race no way to hide it
Great topic to double down on Bill. It's such an important problem that needs to be discussed more often.
I could not agree more. Thank you for watching and taking time to comment.
Excellent Video. Never thought of that. Moocs (massive online open courses) Coursera, LinkedIn Learning, skillshare,Udemy
Great tip
Glad it was helpful!
Just had this experience while job hunting recently. I found it less intimidating than an in person interview and easy to do. However, I always prefer phone or in person interviews because you can "read" the interviewer(s) just like they can "read" you. I also think the pre-recorded interviews remove the abiity to respond to the employers initital questions about you and your experience. They can dismiss you all too easily.
Thank you for your comment to this video. I appreciated your feedback!
There are so many things to be learned when starting a new job, and you are guiding them the best way you know how. Great work Bill
Thank you, Carina!

do the best employeee max working with teams
Working *well* with teams.
Bill Are there any smart ways to increase my earning ability and salary as hvac engineer in Aec construction industry without depending on years of experience which is a pre requisite sometimes to determine salary.. which books would help in this scenario and becoming indispensable or irreplaceable.. I've read be so good they can't ignore you other than this which books would help..
Here are some smart ways to boost your earning ability and make yourself indispensable: 1 - Focus on acquiring specialized skills within HVAC that are in high demand but less common, such as expertise in energy-efficient systems, green building technology, or advanced software for HVAC design and analysis. Certifications and Licenses can help as well like LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), ASHRAE certifications, or becoming a Certified Energy Manager (CEM). These credentials can set you apart and justify a higher salary. 2 - Keep up-to-date with the latest HVAC technology, software, and industry standards. Proficiency in BIM (Building Information Modeling) tools like Revit, or advanced CAD software, can make you more valuable. 3 - Volunteer for leadership roles on projects or within your team. Leading a project or team shows that you are capable of handling more responsibility, which can often lead to salary increases. Als, becoming a mentor to junior engineers or even organizing internal training sessions can highlight your expertise and value to the company. Sorry, but I have no books I can recommend for this.
What’s ironic in this is the interviewers and hiring managers are in the same age group they are discriminating against. In my experience they have been over 40 and over 50 years old. I had one where the business owner was almost 60 and still hired a much younger candidate over me with no experience. He said he would rather fire someone he can train and mold from the ground up.
I am curious, what is the Industry you are applying to?
@@BBenoist card payments and FinTech industry. I am a risk analyst and fraud prevention analyst. It was just a couple of years ago head hunters and recruiters were coming for me. Now they hardly look at me.
Loved this video, Bill! Thanks for breaking it all down so clearly!
You are welcome. Thank you for checking it out
This video is just what I needed-such a motivating reminder that age is just a number when it comes to showing your value to employers!
Glad it helped :-)
Such a great video! The tips here really demystify one-way interviews and make them seem way less intimidating!

This video is such a great resource for anyone diving into the startup world - definitely helps in feeling more confident about landing a job at one!
Yes - startups are a different breed of company and one needs a more strategic plan for finding a job with one.
This video is pure gold, Bill! The tips here are exactly what we need to nail that second interview and get closer to our dream job!
Thank you so much!
This video is so inspiring! Seeing someone go for a master's at 50 is proof that it's never too late to chase your dreams and level up your career!
I was amazed how many actually do this. I always considered myself an outlier, but now I realize i was not alone in my pursuit

Bill what would be some best books to read for managing and handling difficult and annoying people at workplace...
One of my favorites is _Crucial Conversations: Tools for Talking When Stakes are High_
Really solid advice Bill, especially about keeping up with industry trends and being an active networker. There are employers also who greatly value wisdom and the ability to navigate many different types of complex situations, which is typically only gained by extensive work experience.
Thank you for validating all this. There are still many employers out there who recognize the value older workers bring to the table.
usefull information sir tq so much
Thank you!

LOL. What good is being "invaluable" if nobody wants it?
i have been doing this a long time and have many clients who have been successful. I know it's a difficult struggle, but hang in there.
Thanks for these specific tips- really practical advice!
You are welcome. Good luck
How about overcoming ageism to get the interview.
Make sure to age proof your resume so it does not show your age. For example, there is no need to go back more than 15 years on a resume. Anything older than that either leave it off or create a new heading called "Additional Work Experience" and put those jobs under that. Make sure you are not using antiquated skills / words on the resume (i.e., CRT, Cobalt, etc.). I have other tips for this here: ruclips.net/video/b7Eiu3eu_hk/видео.htmlsi=qKX4dUc2i4VNCSKs
Thank you
You're welcome
I dunno what that robot thing is but it's cute af
Ha! - calling the interviewer cute may work :-)
Love this video Bill!! 😃
Thank you, Tonya. I am trying some new things that are outside my comfort zone - LOL
Ok I see you changing things up
I am trying. :-)
Love how you started this video, great change.
Thank you Carina. I am trying somthing new that seems to be working.
What would be good questions to ask them at the end of the interview?
Where do you see the company going in the next five years - if you are applying for a manager position. If you are applying for an individual contributor role then ask where would you like to see the department go in the next five years.

What a creative intro Bill! Thanks for highlighting the benefits of these one-way interviews, especially since they can be quite daunting for those who have not experienced them before.
Thank you, Colleen. I actually got the idea from a reddit post where a number of people were writing how they would never accept this kind of interview - so it got me thinking and doing research on the facts.
But what if those perceptions are true? For instance, what if you're older and don't want to learn computer skills, you like telling war stories, you want to do things the way you've always done them, you feel your energy is decreasing, you have health issues including an aversion to stressful management positions, and you can't remember much? Can you give us old hound dogs with bad posture a bone? Do we have to go to the pound?
This one gave me quite a chuckle this morning - LOL. In a few weeks I will be talking about taking early retirement :-)

Better to start working for our self , rather than enslaving our lives on others.
At any age :-)
I had an offer rescinded during my background check, they told me it took so long so we rescinded the offer what can I do specially I was waiting for a long three months
I am sorry to hear this happened to you. In all my years of coaching, I have never heard of a background check taking so long that an offer was rescinded. Sounds suspicious. But honestly, I am not sure if there is any recourse for you.
Very informative video Bill, especially since a vast majority of clients I work with are seeking remote work. While LinkedIn is typically the go to job site for many, it's often flooded with hundreds (if not thousands) of applicants within hours of a job being posted. Sharing these alternative options for job seekers will help open up many other potential roles.
What are some top ways to 3x or 5x our salary after joining the company ? In small or big companies how it works as some top players of the team star individuals say it's possible so what's their secret or methods to reach that goal..apart from being good at our craft which skills and traits are needed ..
3x to 5x salary is a huge difference and I do not know of any one making that much more than other team mates unless they have been promoted to a higher level. Keep in mind, most positions have salary ranges and those ranges are based upon the industry.
@@BBenoist How to get promoted to higher levels and is it just based on years of experience or there's other factors involved when reaching that levels faster is the only goal...
Thank you for the tips Sir!
You are very welcome. I hope the tips help
This was great thank you
I appreciate this - thank you!
