New Mini Project Vehicle!! It needed a lot of work...
Was I off, or did you DNF the first two runs in the CAM-C Mustang?
Sorry, I should have waited until you posted the times. They were dnf. Was that the understeer?
does it returns to center
Not currently but I think that is a controller issue
That second corner (left-hander) you’re just braking too late and/or too much front bar and not enough negative camber. Easy driver mod fix.😉 Not sure if you ever went through with a bunch of questionable changes to the car, more suitable for a high speed track car? e.g. high caster, no rear bar, big front bar etc. Set-ups that are easier to drive with more understeer will feel good, but will be SLOWER.😩 The pushing on corner exit for Ashley because of earlier throttle is a sign of too much understeer and also a need for a Torsen diff, which will use torque vectoring to reduce throttle understeer to the point where you will be steering more with the throttle than steering wheel on corner exit. Great fun once you get confident steering with throttle!😆
Nice job Team Riner!!
Even though neither of you came in first, you both did a great job, and I truly appreciate your videos.
awesome video....:)
Thanks for the ride.... I sound more southern than I do in my head. 😂 9:26
😂😂
Do you have a video of how to do this with my sn95
ruclips.net/video/yNKPn1Yzies/видео.html
So could you mount a hi ram intake on an explorer with a 5.0 that already has everything in there?
A high mount will clear a distributor. On an Explorer you'd have to relocated the coil packs. I don't know about hood clearance but on a mustang a high mount won't clear a stock hood.
Really proud of the way you and “Angry Ashley” (where you been?) drove! Braking early enough to stay on line, getting back on throttle earlier to prevent spins and making acceleration zones longer. Bravo!👏
Been 4yrs since I originally put that S197 together for the old owner. From what you're saying, it definitely is in need of some TLC. The shocks are very budget (per the original owner budget limitations). I would rebuild or upgrade them to DAs at a minimum. I'm very curious why the ride height looks jacked up (leading to many handling issues) and where the front splitter is at? The front end was dialed in around that splitter, easy 2 sec slower on a 60sec course without (I tested it back in the day). I'm glad you are trying something else, the only way to become a better driver is to drive something different and be coached by others.
Since it's driven instead of trailered she doesn't run the splitter. Which I understand but it's affecting the performance. I'm not sure about ride height, I know there was some rubbing issues. The control arms with longer ball joints aren't installed either. Those two things would really help the front end.
@RinerAutomotive used to be driven with the splitter on before as a daily lol, no excuse there. Also, big no-no, these cars need the extended Howe ball joints. I made a set for that car with Delrin bushings. I guess they were removed. Ride height on s197s are like trucks. Otherwise, the geometry gets messed up very messy.
The bushing on one of those arms are melted (not sure why). Removed by PO. Plan is to replace bushing and get reinstalled this winter. I haven't seen the splitter so I'm not sure how low it sits. Something I'll look into though.
@RinerAutomotive common on s197 to melt them. Splitter had plenty of clearance for road driving. Let me know. I have all my notes for s197.
@simaverick1972 thanks
This thumbnail has helped me make up my mind on getting the larger race louvers.
They do look small on this car. I forgot which size I went with on my car.
How did you like the S197?
It has potential. I'm not a fan of sitting so low but that I could get used to. I drove it to help figure out what improvements are needed.
Should've drove a Miata.🤔😉
Haha for sure.
Wtf a Tesla won
They're fast. Low CG and instant torque
@@RinerAutomotiveyo where do you go to your autocross events
@@RinerAutomotivelike I saw how you make your custom made SLA on your sn95 like I absolutely love them mustangs owned 4 myself until you put that out on RUclips I really never knew about that type of suspension really good detail how you did roll center and everything you taught me a lot with those videos you posted keep up the good work man taught me a lot
I travel all over the East Coast to events. MotorsportReg is best place to find ones close to you.
Thanks. Sharing information is something I'm trying to do. Glad you're enjoying it and learning something.
Good job, bro. I'm sure if you do it again next year, you'll do even better since you'll be past the newness of it. I've never been to a Nationals (on the bucket list) but I'm sure it was similar to that nervous anxious energy we experienced when we participated in our very first autocross(Small shout out to the two Kansas City Region members who made it in the top 20). Though I know I'll probably never be on your performance level, I really enjoy your videos.
Thanks. I'm hoping to go back next year. The mental part of autocross is sometimes the toughest part.
Sorry to bring this up again. Is it possible to use the 43 Varga(Taurus) units on the GT500 rear rotors? Would this mean too much break over for the rears, bringing the bias down in to rhe 60's for the front? Also if it was possible to use the 43's, would mounting them using the S&S bracket place them too far out into the barrel of the wheel?
I've never seen or touched a Taurus caliper. I think the S&S bracket should work just fine though as the caliper works with stick mustang components. The rear bias will be higher and a proportional valve would be needed.
Love the content 👍🏼🏁
Thanks!
Mr. Cann is very fast in that Tesla!!!! Mr. Hotshoe himself!!!!
Ha yep! All cars can be beat though 😁
As poorly as I do in slaloms in my 2001 Ford Mustang GT, watching this wore me out, lol.
Ha, it was a lot of slaloms. Part of the problem of doing autocross on a road course. Good practice though.
I got 2nd in PAX at that event. I may have also been announcing for your runs. Car looks great and handles better than I would have expected. Glad I can compete with you again. Keep going and I'll see you at the track.
i know on my autox 350z, removing the rear sway bar has introduced understeer but i think i need to lower front sway bar yet to help with that which i havent tried yet. Also enjoy watching the content to see what you are doing so when i get my SN95 ready i should have a decent idea for the road course

What is the name of the manual ?

Do you have a link to the conversion u joint from the column to 3/4”DD?
This is the one I bought. www.kartek.com/parts/steering-universal-joint-34-double-d-to-17mm-36-toyota-spline-for-our-electric-power-steering-kit.html
Man you really boogied through the second slalom. What's your oiling setup?
Stock setup. I have welded in baffles in the oil pan to help contain the oil in the sump.
Hello, I have a question regarding your ABS from a new edge installed in your SN. How does it perform? I run my 89 LX in CAM T out in Phoenix AZ. We have a really large CAM-T group here. I know a lot of other classes where drivers rely on ABS. It seems to work for them, but these are newer cars. Does the older module work like the newer stuff?
It's definitely better than the early units as it's 4 channel. I try not to rely on it but it's nice piece of mind to keep tires happy. The new edge unit is easy to install. What I'm currently looking into and if starting from scratch is the S197 or S550 units. Vorshlag has gotten them to work standalone. There is an ABS swap Facebook group with some information.
@@RinerAutomotive Thank you for the info.
Heck yeah!!!
Well done 👏
Be interesting to know how much dwell they can take.
I’m in the process of replacing drum brakes on my 65 Corvair with Chevy S-10 disc brakes.
Yea get those out of here, drum brakes have no business on a race car 🏎️ 😆
Yes sir keep finding ways to be competitive and cut car weight sounds like a W to me.
Agreed!
Took back my previous response, but isnt unsprung weight usually wheel related? The brakes are stationary, non-moving parts. Only the rotor is spinning. Think you were better off with the larger setup. More clamping, possibly better heat dissipation. What do you want for the XTS's? Woukd have traded you my ATS set thats been sitting for 4 years.
Unsprung weight is any weight not carried by the springs, so wheels, brakes, hubs, axle. All of that whether it's moving or not.
@@screaminlead always considered mounted components as the opposite. i get what you're saying though.
If I was road racing then for sure I think the XTS would be better. For autocross and street the ATS is sufficient. I actually already had the ATS setup before I got the XTS calipers. I think I'll end up selling the XTS setup but shipping would be expensive due to the weight.
@@RinerAutomotive good info. let me know on the latter. if priced good, shipping shouldn't be too bad.
Keeping the large rotor rears?
Yes they still match up perfectly with the ATS calipers.
Why ATS calipers vs 04 Cobras? Just for the 4 pistons?
Good question. Something I wondered myself.
I did this mod, and it was less expensive to go this route than the cobra setup.
I had the Cobra setup previously, which is a good setup as well. The ATS is a fixed caliper so less flex and 4 piston instead of 2 piston so more clamping force. Plus the ATS pads can be changed without removing the calipers. The ATS calipers are aluminum, I'll have to weigh the steel cobra calipers to see if there is any weight advantage or disadvantage.
I'd love to get the aftermarket coil on plug kit, with it and the Holley high ram with the side inlet top, that would make that old 5.0 look really modern and it would completely baffle so many people, I bet there would be people that at a glance think it was an LS swap. I'm not saying I want an LS swap I just like the modern looking engine but still have the iconic 5.0 I love.
I agree the only problem is the high RAM won't fit under a stock hood, I looked. I thought the same thing it would look similar to an LS but be better 😁. Now if they made the mid or low mount for the SBF I would probably get that but they don't and probably won't since it won't fit 99% of SBF out there. Custom intakes are too expensive as well.
When I see the harness I said welp I'm out lol
Haha. It's not too bad, just tedious. I thought about it but I didn't think the demand is there for this in the aftermarket.
Out of curiosity what is the panel with lights and hour meters on the wall for?
AC system. Keeps track of the hours the compressor is running. Lights are for the different operation modes. Something the previous owner did but I kinda like it.
Did you get adequate air flow? Fixing to do it on an 03 mach 1. Wondering if i should widen it to include fog holes or make it taller to include the pony emblem hole.
I get plenty of cooling but I don't daily drive or have AC.
@@RinerAutomotive i took my heater/ac box out also. Thanks.
Do you know how to do the opposite and replace a button with a key
I’ve always wanted to learn about bump-steer… heard of it for nearly 40 years but never completely understood it. Thanks
This is dope because you have given me and idea to do this on a 300zx with a VH45 swap.
Electric power steering is going to help so many swaps
where did you end up finding the results?
This video was from Ford fest 2023, but look at driveusca.com
@@RinerAutomotive gotcha, yea i seen that, but doesn't have overall grand champion results... you missed a wet one that's for sure! we didn't drag race, NMRA only got to do some qualifying on Thursday.

What a beautiful car, man, that shade of grey, the hood louvres, the trans, perfection. Any chance of doing a walkaround on engine mods, etc all over the car?
I did one back in 2021 but a lot has changed. I've been meaning to do an updated walk-around
