I have wonderful memories of Galway city and Salthill as a small boy on holidays in the late 60's, and my dad rowing us up the Corrib, blue dragon flies alighting on the oars, and picnics on the riverbank at Menlo castle. Passed through Galway last summer with my own family. Sorry to say very disappointed with what we found - grubby streets, haphazard ugly development around the harbour and Spanish Arch, dreadful lunch in a cafe, not particularly friendly, crowded. Left quickly. In contrast, we had the most wonderful, enjoyable holiday ever in Connemara.

What a lovely video of Corks past. I'm amazed to hear Ackerbilk as the music as My Dad Billy McGuire played drums with him in the cotton ball one year of the cork jazz festival and he came for tea to house. Little did i know back then he was a jazz superstar. As was my dad in my eyes. RIP to both...John.
