Thank You for your service . I was in the US Navy . My dad was a USAF medic . I used to have an old school USAF pilots survival knife with the stacked leather handle in the leather sheath . I recently bought a new version like this one , but with a much better sheath . The new sheath has a plastic liner and the back of the sheath has a system of straps to allow multiple carry options . The plastic liner has good friction retention without rattle . The sheath has double strap retention and is fully ambidextrous . I often make sheaths from leather to replace the poor sheaths that usually come from the factory these days , but this sheath is a keeper .

I carried an Air Force survival knife for two tours in Vietnam. A great knife. The Navy had the same knife.
