Like to find old junk that's not running and give it a second chance at life. I like just about anything with an engine Steam, Gas, Diesel, including models and also enjoy watching old equipment such as locomotives and steam tractors as well as filming them running. Recently have started going to tractor shows with friends of mine those are my favorite videos to film. Videos go up usually every Sunday if I have one to upload and some times Wednesday if I have one to upload. Would also like to say go check out my friends channels I have listed in the featured channel’s called Friends really enjoy doing things with them and would like to help them grow their channels. Thank you for checking out the channel and I hope you like what you see and consider subscribing.

In todays video we get back into the B we change out the bolt for the clutch lever because it was warn out with a lot of play, Flushed out the cooling system to get scale and other stuff out of the block and determined the tractor was running on one cylinder so I changed out the plugs.

how do you remove the fender pan from 140
I rebuilt a KT-17 series II in my wife's 782. It's really not that bad a job to do rods in(we lost an oil seal). I was surprised how good it ran as i had never done one. Our series II had the plate so we added the external oil filter and an oil gauge on the dash.
What a raggedy ass POS. Wheels and mag are wrong for a 26, it leaks fluids like a syphlitic whore and is only running on 2 cylinders🙄 heard the guy that owns it is hung like a chipmunk. It's only 3 inches but smells like a foot.
😂
Heard the owner has brain works from a slug
What the fuck??? 🤣
Don’t go through cold weather without antifreeze
@@DanielMeyer-ls5ph yeah its got antifreeze in it now, I drained it and flushed it again a couple days ago.
Yep at 1:28, still a little bit rough running. Maybe the carburetor??
Super Clean, purple color, cleans up the grease off the tractor.. Heavy grease can be attacked by mixing dry Tide laundry detergent and lye. Make a paste and paint it on , keeping it damp with a spray bottle of water. It will boi Off the grease, then you can spray it off with a garden hose.
Coca Cola has phosphoric acid in it, which will eat up the rust. You can also find cleaners that use phosphoric acid. Once rinsed out then add antifreeze 50/50 mix .
Robert’s Carburetor has videos on how to clean and repair the carburetor. Your tractor sounds like it might need to be cleaned. A few passages blocked can have a lot of affect on the running of the engine. They also show you how to easily remove the brass plugs to clean the passageways.
@@DanielMeyer-ls5ph the carb on the engines fine I dialed it in alittle more after the video. The main issue was the one spark plug was dead so it was only on one cylinder.
Get a parts book and then you can check around for the parts that you will need. Some sources can cross reference from the dealer numbers.
Thats a dyno. It pumps hydraulic fluid through an adjustable valve to restrict the flow, and it calculates the power through pressure and volume. A *Prony brake is entirely different, measuring the force on the end of an arm on a band clamp to calculate torque, and you make a calculation using that torque number combined with the rpm readout to calculate the horsepower.
You should've just rattle can painted the parts you took off and cleaned - then slowly it'll look cleaned up and it'll be easy to identify what you've fixed.
@@TheDoctor1492 ya know I had thought about that but the stuff everyone sells turns blue over time if Deere paint wasn’t $15 a can Id just redo the whole tractor
Man i wish we had more of these here! Thanks for sharing. 😊

@themaniacmower cool! This one is what would be my hometown show.
Don’t use a steam cleaner on the air filter element!!
That tractor doesn’t have a filter element, its a oil bath filter also thats just a pressure washer its not a steam cleaner but I do agree the water did look like steam coming out.
Bolts should have clutch head inside of top.
Very Nice Jon. If you ever pull the radiator out, I would give a good coating of probably black semi gloss paint. A friend of mine that operated a radiator shop ago told me that the black paint helps in sealing any tiny pinholes that may be in the radiator. He also would take 2 scoops of a substance used by radiator shops of what he called “Core Sugar” because of its powdery white appearance.which looked like confectioners sugar. The “Core Sugar” would seal internally while the black paint sealed the outside. Sounds like you have your John Deere dialed in pretty well.
Thanks Mark! Never would have thought about painting the radiator Id think that would insulate it and it wouldn’t cool as effectively but ill keep those ideas in mind.
@@themaniacmower Yeah Join,, That would be correct. There would be a slight loss in the cooling, But black paint did protect the brass radiators from the elements and for many years. When I was with the highway department equipment section, The rock salt & calcium chloride spray would totally eat away the cores from the brass radiators where you could rake your fingers across the cores and the brass would be like pure dust falling off. The spray didn’t bother the newer aluminum core and plastic tank radiators like it did with the brass radiators.
I’m sorry about your friends passing but it sounds like one of the best things that you can do to remember him is make a baddass 214
Why is the guy in the orange shirt remind me of Joe Pesci from Goodfellas? I guess maybe just the way he sort of talks?

where is you ground from the battery to the frame ran? have issues with my 316k!
@@tysonstein5745 the ground on mine goes down to the engine block. There might also be one that goes to the body somewhere but I don’t think so
I like the taillight on the engine cover, cool old school
Ever owned one with the pedal control for the transmission? Opinions, if so, just curious.
The funny thing is that the comparable Simplicity it competed with, the 7117, used the same exact KT17 with great success. It also came with a limited slip differential, whereas the Deere did not. Which is also ironic, since Deere did offer more in the way of rear attachments.. that could take advantage of such a differential. Having plowed snow with both, the Simplicity was hands down the better machine, for that at least. Excellent video. 👍🏻
this is the first time I've seen a 317 with power steering!
@@dislodgegarage9849 this one doesn’t have power steering its got s remote oil filter tho

Hello Jon, Supposedly “I Save Tractors” has the Kohler fuel pump rebuild kits - I cant say one way or the other regarding how good they are. Looking forward to seeing the next video regarding your Gravelly tractor.
@@TheIronDuke502 Hey Mark!! Yeah they do but I don’t know if I can get the check valves or not plus you’d have to get the new ones in without breaking them. Good hearing from you again regardless and yeah hopefully next video it should be able to drive and steer its self around lol
@@themaniacmower I wanted to at least mention the fuel pump kits being that you were dealing with that issue. Jon, If my foggy memory serves me correctly, I think that the fuel pumps for both the K series and the KT series Kohler engines are pretty much the same as far as I can tell. I was kind of wondering if any of the garden tractor salvage yards may have the steering parts that you might need - I hope so anyway. There’s another RUclips channel @SolunaGarage that did a complete tear down of a Kohler KT17 engine in which he used the vacuum type fuel pump rather than the lever style fuel pump which upon start up seems to work pretty well. Before I forget, My 682 Cub Cadet has a bad ignition switch which was probably causing most of my issues with the ignition not working. I tried to turn the key and the “Innerds” of the switch were very crunchy feeling. What makes me so ticked off is that I think that I have to pull the gas tank and the large metal bracket next to it - I am not happy about that being that I ran all new rubber fuel line and all. Hopefully the hose will pull off the fittings fairly easily - Probably Not!!!
@@TheIronDuke502 I think the KT series used a different lever if I remember right but I might be thinking of the 8 horse K series but yes they are the same pump just the heads flipped in an odd way. I believe I have a lead currently on a steering assembly for the tractor how ever I am looking at a few other places incase this deal falls through.
I can see me in the video!
I'm taking one apart now and I have removed both bolts at the top of both axel tubes and the belt freedom spring. It seems to be hung up not coming out!
@@DaleTerry what do you mean by belt springs?
