Amazing use of biogas!

To be recycled the reject stream is further sorted into the different types of plastic polymer, and other materials such as aluminium cans are also sorted. Once a suitable quantity of each material has been baled, the bales of what is then called a "recyclate" are trucked to specialist companies which re-use the material. The plastic is further cleaned and is made into the plastic resin/ small beads which are used to make new plastic products. Metals are melted down and used once again.

The food/ organic waste before processing is a mixture of plastic packets and inedible food. It could be burnt to make energy in an incinerator as you suggest, but the water in it would not make heat and would take heat energy simply to make steam. It is much more efficient not to burn this but to re-use the plastic etc and to make renewable fuels. We badly need the renewable fuel to power trucks until better HGV batteries are developed, and indeed until hydrogen technology arrives to provide the ultimate clean and sustainable solution to power road transport.

I'm not sure why your comment is the next one but one good reason not to burn it is that unless this waste is burnt in a modern municipal incinerator, open burning pollutes the atmosphere with smoke. It is extremely damaging smoke which is created from burning plastic and is for example known to cause cancer when people inhale the smoke from the open burning of plastic.

It's hard to burn it. It contains so much water that it takes a lot of energy to steam-off the water before it will burn. That's why good depackaging systems are really important. The idea of (endocrine disruptors) is worrying. Maybe there are couples that find they are infertile that are being affected by this but we don't know enough about it to be sure?
