Sailing from Colombia to Jamaica - Our Most Challenging Sail Ep 70
Просмотров 14416 часов назад
We leave the comfort of Cartagena, Colombia for the open seas once again which will be one of our most challenging sails to date. The seas from Colombia to Jamaica are notorious for being rough: 30 knot winds in 10 foot seas at 4 seconds apart. You have to sail into the waves and wind that is hard on the boat and the crew. We experience charging issues that complicate the crossing. With only so...

    Great video, Lance! So interesting, and slightly nerve-wracking to see the boat bobbing up and down on the rough sea like that. I can certainly imagine not being able to sleep much while on that voyage, and then having weird dreams. Do you keep Boss on a leash? What's stopping him from plunging into the water?

    • @sailingdiscoverypassage
      @sailingdiscoverypassage 5 дней назад

      Thanks, bud! It was definitely a tough sail because of the stacked waves at 4 seconds. Boss stays in the cockpit with us during passage. He gets too seasick down below. Tomoko, Sakura and I take turns holding him and keeping an eye on him. The ocean is like lava to him, so he has no desire to jump in the water.

    That cable deal is a super bad idea, if you vibrate the packing box too much you could sink the boat. Just use dinghy to tow it in. Raft dinghy to side of boat and go for it

    • @sailingdiscoverypassage

      Thanks for the heads up on the packing! We only used the strap to hold the cable and we only used the engine once for a couple of minutes to avoid collision when hauling out.

    • @sailingdiscoverypassage
      @sailingdiscoverypassage Месяц назад

      It was definitely the best well-built home. It is around 3 hours by car on the west side of Izu. It's about 1 hour north east of Shimoda. From the main road that runs along the ocean, it was around 20 minutes straight up the side of the mountain. There was nothing around for miles. It would be very isolating to live there full time, but it would be a nice weekend getaway.

    Hey guy , what happens if somebody hits floating logs?

    • @sailingdiscoverypassage
      @sailingdiscoverypassage 7 месяцев назад

      A number of factors can occur after hitting a log: It can sink your boat, damage your boat, or scratch your boat. That’s why it’s important to have a look out when sailing close to shore and especially around river inlets. You can hit debris off shore, but the risk factor is considerably less.
