Before There Was a Rte66, There Was The Grand Hotel! 😍
Check out @DanRice27 for something Grand…the Grand Hotel! Before there was the roadtrip culture of Rte66, there was the car culture of Detroit, MI, and long before even that was the family connection that probably led to me eventually being out on the Santa Monica Pier and Route 66 finally having a festive finish line for visitors to celebrate at. Join us for a short visit to the Grand Hotel! 😊

Indian trails and rivers led to trade routes and railroads. This in turn created an environment where industry could flourish at the turn of the 20th Century. You did a service to the country, the world. It's crazy that it didn't exist before. I would guess that it's one of those things that many people thought of, but you actually followed through. Thank you!
great smart idea...
Great tips for Route 66 beginners. Researching the route I found this very informative. I also have already purchased Jerry mcclanahan's book. Thanks for the info
hotrods woodshed Thanks!
This video brings great joy to my wife and me. We are rabid Mother Roaders and have dozens of friends in Route 66 associations and in 66-themed retail along the way. It's been quite some time since we made it all the way to the end of the road, and unfortunately, we did not make it out to the pier the last time, since we were on our way to the incredible Dodgers-Red Sox exhibition game at the Coliseum.
i live in Canada and myself and my wife are doing the route this June 2020 for our honeymoon. That book would be handy to have
how do i get the a hold of the EZ 66 Guide book?
Its on Amazon.
Just ran across this Dan. Great video and explanation of the book. Thanks for all you do.
The whole fun of ROUTE 66 is traveling EAST to WEST, not the other way around. But the spirit of fun is the ANTICIPATION while traveling on Route 66 of eventually reaching and entering California. So while one drives westbound on Route 66 and has fun making stops and doing some sightseeing, the anticipation of reaching California heightens the fun of traveling west. That's how I felt, driving westbound from Huntsville, Alabama to Los Angeles, California. There was so much so to view and places to stop and visit along Route 66 but behind it all was the anticipation of every day getting closer and closer to your final destination. After you make your final stop in California, you look back on your whole travel with some sad nostalgia.
Bucket list!! Thank you so much for this! Hope to be wearing one of those shirts in the VERY near future!

aloha dan from switzerland !! cya soon !!!
Just as long as you don't keep going west on 66... Actually, the alignment of 66 changed numerous times all along the route, as concrete replaced dirt and gravel and new roads and bridges were built.
super cool and very clear. Awesome video.
For a quick trip down the route: vimeo.com/75300837 Oh, and the east end was Clark & Ogden in Chicago for a bit. Ogden no longer reaches Clark, however.
Awesome, this backs up what I heard all my life (but couldn't prove), thanks for clarifying and putting this subject to rest in such a concise and entertaining manner!!
i'm Dan Rice!

wonderful information!..... thanks Mr. Dan Rice, if u can send me” EZ 66” & “Here it is” by post to Saudi Arabia….. how much it will cost including postal charges, I wants to ride my Harley on Route 66, I am planning so I need all the information before I start my ride. Thanks
@Parsa9 We agree! While some in Santa Monica "get it," I'm still trying to reach others with the message of 66 there. The Route's been decommissioned so long, many don't understand its relevance or that it's still an active culture and community that stretches 2400 miles. Anyhow, if I can survive long enough to get the message through, I'd guess the sign will come at some point. Until then, the one I made has to suffice and so far everyone's had fun discovering it. Thanks for the comment.
Very clearly explained Dan. Many folks are confused on this matter, and your video makes it all crystal clear. Still, it would be nice to have some kind of sign at the historical end of the road in Santa Monica....
