Restoring an Old Vise
Here I restore a Desmond 41S Vise. (S standing for Swivel) The desmonds aren't as popular as other vise brands, but I've found it quite similar to parker vises and just as if not more beefy.

How Old Anvils Were Made #1
Просмотров 2,9 тыс.3 месяца назад
This is the first episode in the forged anvil series. Here we made a very small anvil, but not just a boring one piece anvil made under a lame hydraulic press, but a forge welded 5 piece anvil made from mild steel! This was made similar to how many of the older forged anvils would have been made using the "build up" method. This involved forge welding (getting something screaming hot and hittin...
Making an Anvil Block
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.5 месяцев назад
This is the first episode, or more so pilot episode, in what I hope to be a series on forge welded anvils. This series, all going well, will be centered around making miniature forged anvils of various makes and models and the majority of the forging will be done on the same type of anvil. For instance, a mini colonial anvil will be made on a colonial anvil, a mini English pattern made on an En...

I belly laughed at the dubble wielded hammers. Its smart, and ive never thought about it, but it looked kind of silly. Im def stealing it!

It appears you made the block out of mild steel and then forge welded a high carbon steel plate on. If so, that is a very clever idea I will have to try that method. Thanks for sharing godbless and good health.

Hank, You do know you put the 2 spacer's that go on the front of the screw shaft that adjust the vise jaws, on after the collar with the set screw! The place you put them does nothing but add weight to the vise!

Functional. Well done bringing it back from half dead. If you want to leave it bare metal a light coat of boiled linseed oil will protect it from rusty you can even bake it on like seasoning a cast iron pan using a torch or an oven. Some grease on the ware surfaces is a good idea. I prefer red n tacky also in the spindle and nut. Good vise

It's been a very handy vise so far. Thanks for the recommendations, I'll definitely try out red n tacky in the future
