Packraft and whitewater kayak exploration throughout the 5 Boros and beyond! As a Kayak and Canoe Club member of NY (KCCNY.org), I try to document all the trips I can. Come join us! We have loaner boats and educational resources and host plenty of outings on the Mongaup River, Lehigh River, and others.
Lehigh River 2,000 CFS in a Jackson MixMaster 7.5
The Kayak and Canoe Club of New York hits the Lehigh River at high(ish) water flows! Lots to surf at this level! We had our raft captain Frank taking newbies out that day! Great day out there! Gonna miss those warm Lehigh days as the winter comes in.

Part four of four! At 4,000 (4K!) CFS, the pipeline/oxbow rapid gets ROWDY. Lot of big waves and a few holes. The Sea of Rocks rapid was a hoot at this level with plenty of punchy holes and surf spots. The snaggletooth rapid at the end was a lot of fun too! Part three of 2023 Lehigh Mega Release series! After finishing section 1, we immediately kicked off into section 2. At 4,000 CFS, the run started a little slow, but picked up quick as we got out into the depth of the gorge. The whitewater got rowdy out there! Whitewater kayaking in my Wavesport Recon Creekboat was a ball with over 4,000 CFS of water flowing through section 1 of the Lehigh River, in White Haven, PA. Part 2 will cover the lunch rock to Rockport, PA. Part 3 onwards will cover the other parts of the gorge from Rockport down to Glenn Onoko, PA. #kayaking #whitewater #broat

Glad you liked the video! I've been paddling the Mongaup for two years now, starting in an inflatable kayak. Now I'm in a boat made for playing on features! You should check out the Kayak and Canoe Club of New York (KCCNY.org). We run trips to the Mongaup and Lehigh rivers quite frequently. Plus, we have loaner gear to get you started. The club also rents a pool in Garfield, NJ, in the winter to help train people on rolling. But yeah! Happy labor day and thanks again for watching & the comment!

where did you put in/ take out? planning a packrafting trip and trying to feel out how far north we can put in and how far south there will still be flow. thanks for posting with flow data!
heyo! so we put on at the regular put in on the Indian River, in Indian Lake, NY. Down Chain Lakes Road. You could go up to Newcomb and try to find a place to put on above the confluence of the Indian and Hudson Rivers. But the issue is that the flow would be WAAAAAAAY too low right now for anything but a trip walking the dog. You gotta wait for a rain event (which can get dangerous quickly depending on how quick the water levels rise) or wait til next spring for the snowmelt. Have you heard of the Kayak and Canoe Club of NY? I'm a part of that group and we run the hudson a few times a year. We have a trip this fourth of july if you're interested. Have you been on the hudson before?

How do you learn the names of the rapid on this section of the river? I'm about to raft it for the first time and I could use any advice to prepare.

@@KCCNYwhitewater Just got back into whitewater after about 7 years out. I'll be at the Mongaup, Esopus, and maybe the Tohickan and a few other places. If you're with KCCNY, I've just re-upped with them. Don't turn your back on me though... that paddle might mysteriously disappear.
Do you go with a tour company or with a group of friends? I really want to packraft the Lehigh but doing it solo seems dubious as a novice on white water. Any recs are appreciated!

Also, look up the packraft roundup via packrafting adventures. It is an APA event the first weekend of August in the lehigh Valley area
