Love it. I made a throw glider many years ago with a Girl Scout group. It was made out of meat trays and pine for the body. It worked well. Keep up the good work.
The deadly ‘figure 9’.
very cool!
Nice flying Bill and plenty pf spectators - feathered and otherwise.
Both did not really care I was flying but good lift.
Plenty of revs, steady note, and tight lines. Excellent
Beautiful slope soaring 🪂
Bill, looks like fun on the slope.
You have an audience!
Very few people actually see model airplanes.
You need to add some technology gps latitude langitud elavation
I have that in my larger free flight models.
Cool 👍
Brilliant Bill.
That little UMX Radian did pretty well for slope soaring. I taped a coin on wing for stronger wind.
I built this exact kit (rubber band powered) when I was about about 12 or 13 (1970s). Was one of my biggest accomplishments. Started with vertical stabilizer and did not go well (took all day). doubted I was capable of completing it . Nice to see a gas powered version.
This is not gas powered, s person was flying RC model at the same time. It is a rather delicate model to build.
ditch the extra weight and install a KB .19 engine… snappier performance
@@MH-fb5kr I switched to Akromaster, flies much better for me.
320 has an amazing glide. I was very impressed with mine.
Mine has been repaired a few times and has Mt Fuji tissue over Mylar but still glides well.
It was going down hard, but hit the grass and it seemed to bounce back up enough to glide out onto the lawn. You could hear the grass strike. Amazing!
I think there was a good deal of kinetic energy from the dive.
On the positive side, you got it back with no damage 👍👍😁😁
That is correct, without the RDT it would have been so high when engine quit.
And that's why we can't have nice things...
@@eb-pe8xg ha ha plane was fine.
Reminds me of something that happened when I was in school. There were two adult men who built and flew model airplanes, but whenever I went over to see what they were doing, they told me to beat it. One of them lived across the T at the end of the street. One day I was mowing the front lawn when I heard an engine start up. I walked out to the curb and saw them coming out of the garage. One of them launched an airplane. It came straight down the center of the street, gaining altitude slowly. After a while they looked at each other and started running after the plane. By the time it got to my location about half way down the street it was at the level of the street lights, still going. A while later they ran up and I heard one of them ask "Did you light the fuse?" The other answered "No, I though you did." They stopped and watched the plane. I considered running into the garage and getting out my bicycle, but decided I would not be able to catch up with the plane, the nearest road that would continue in that direction was about a half mile away. I could still hear the motor running, but it was so far away I lost sight of it, still climbing and heading over the Santa Cruz mountains. I've often wondered where it came down. How fast was it going, how long would the gas last? Would it come down this side of the mountains or would it clear the summit and come down somewhere in Santa Cruz County? Maybe make it into town, or even land in the Pacific Ocean.
@@aeromodeller1 Thank you so much for the story. Sounds like they were not flying in a proper place either.
@@billkuhl442 They intended the fuse to DT after only a few feet. They expected it to land only a short way down the street. They were testing the trim before going to a larger field. The trim was good! We all know how bittersweet it is when we get a flyaway. Great flight, but lost the plane.
I have one and I loved. Also with floats fly amazing in lacs in Canada..
Did the plane survive?
no damage in tall grass
@@billkuhl442 lucky, that thing was really wound up. Surprised it held together.
Hi dear sir pleas Tell me what timer used ? Thank you lot
I bought this system brodak.com/electric-power-package-for-1-2a-series-does-not-include-plane.html
Nice pattern!!!
As expected as power increased the pattern changed and I added a little more turn or it would stall on transition.
Looking good Bill. I have 5 boys building the Sunbird V2 electric powered gliders, We meet two days a week for 4 hours each day 1:00PM - 5:00PM. This is Week 4 and one of the boys is starting to cover the Fuselage and tail. We are building in the EAA Chapter 878 hangar. I built one in 6 days ready to fly, and filmed the 15 part series showing how to build it.
That is really great, I watched part of the video.
Дрова... 🤷
its funny you know when you fly a kite it is about being satisfied with your flight
I was ten when I built my "Baby Ringmaster." Good for you, pal!
From what I could tell, it looks like you were flying in an aerodynamic bowl...frequently difficult to lift out of those things and get up to good air.
Con éste sistema no son necesarias dos personas para volar el avión, ¿Cómo pones en marcha el motor desde el centro del círculo? Muchas gracias
It is on timer that gives you 30 seconds to get to center of circle.
A very sedate flyer, well done.
I've got heads
And used parts
I've got heads
I do too now, this plane flew away but have another Hornet in a Zeek.
I had a couple of those as a kid. 42' line is pretty good. At 75 I don't know how long I could go around in circles without falling on my butt. Thanks for sharing!
I created this line length for Medallion powered 1/2 A Viper and that was really fast.
42 ' of line is too much for 049 power .it not very controlled.
I think you are right for reed valve engine, it is fine for more powerful .049.
I've been flying CL since 1970. Got all the hot old motors . Gonna pull out the stuff and Go Ape Shit again. Keep on flyin
Greetings. What wood is the fuselage of this model aircraft made of, lime wood is good and must be thick, please, I await your reply. Thanks in advance
The plane is built mainly from balsa wood with some plywood in front of the fuselage.
At first viewing the noise of the other engine during the glide is an outrage 😮 then at the end you realize it's a friend on a motorcycle who you'd have to admit could come in handy 😂
and thanks for sharing.
Well hats off Sirs. I watch a LOT of this kind of thing and that was special. Great demo of a record breaker doing what it oughta free flight never seen it before. There's something great about having nothing to do after the launch but watch, enjoy the flight and maybe do some shouting and jumping up and down like a kid. Bet it even smells good. Grass and gas, lovely. 😀
Hi Bill, haven’t seen you on Stunthangar lately,, good to see you,
I know, progressing in CL scares me
For me, this is what it’s all about. Nothing like catching a thermal!
Great video. I just got that plane second hand. I actually flew my friends today and it was awesome. Im going to get mine ready this week and take it up on Saturday. Keep up the great vids!🫡
Looks like a couple good places to fly!
Many years ago I did fly in the large gym with students.
no sound
i have used an OS Max 35 on a Flitestreak and what an awesome engine!
I have an OS max .35 too in Goldberg Buster.
My Ranger was a Carl Goldberg model I think. Hard to remember back to the 60's for tiny detals such as model brands though. I had a pee wee .020 on mine and the entire airplane was painted with orange dope because it's easy to see and there was plenty left over from my grandfather's Great Lakes he had built from scratch. I never found the pee wee's any harder to start than the .049 Cox engines. We used to fill the tank and tweak the needle valve and time it with a wrist watch to see how long it would run. Then we would fill the tank again and start it. We didn't launch until we figured there was about 30 seconds left. When a Ranger 30 is climbing like a homesick angel; 30 seconds seems like an eternity! It looked like a dot on a piece of paper before it quit. While it made a football field sized circle while climbing, that all changed once the engine died. That sucker straighted course and went in a perfect bee line towards the next county. Me and my cousin were running full blast trying to keep it in sight. It wasn't coming down that we could see! We gave up the search in the corn fields when the sun went down. I figured it was a goner but my grandfather had a buddy look for it the next day in his airplane. He easily spotted the orange against the green corn stocks and told us exactly which telephone pole along the road to use to enter the corn. The Ranger 30 got a penny glued to a wing tip after that to ensure it spiraled back to earth in a wide sweeping turn. If I still had it today I'd have a radio in it and an electric motor. They had great balsa back then because that airplane was super light for it's size. With just rudder, elevator and throttle I bet it would be fun to fly. I might be tempted to go just two channel and leave the pee wee up front to keep it light.
Thank you for the story. I have learned with the PeeWee .020 good gaskets are a must. I built another Ranger with electric and it flies wonderful. It has RDT to keep it from flying away.
I spent ALL winter building my first R/C Sailplane. When it came time to launch, I thought I was doing everything right, but apparently, I had not stretched the surgical tubing out far enough. I let go and the plane shot up and then listed to the side cartwheeling into the ground to TOTAL destruction! I learned my lesson, but NEVER had the money nor the inclination to EVER build another RC model airplane.
That is really a bummer. If there is not enough speed on the launch the sailplane can stall like you described. Maybe consider a foam electric sailplane with no building.
@@billkuhl442 Yes. That is good advice. I will NEVER use a "Hi-Start" launch again. If I do try R/C airplanes again it will be a standard single engine model like a "Taylor Craft," "J-3 Piper Cub," or "Cessna 172." If I do a sailplane, I will strap a "Power Pod" with an 0.049 engine on it.
@@benjaminhawthorne1969 it does take some experience with a hi-start. I am often pushing down to keep from going to vertical at the start.
I had a Jr. Flight streak with a Fox .15 on it. It flew great. The only reason I quit flying it was I wanted a .35 sized airplane with a real body. Those little details were important to a kid in the 60's and early 70's. I remember the Perfect had all kinds of stuff in those little bags with the cardboard top held on by a staple. They also had control line metal fuel tanks and rubber tires for our models.
I think the Jr Flite Streak is a better plane, this one was just too darn heavy.
@@billkuhl442 I agree the Ringmasters were better! There were a few guys that had them. I had a plank wing version in .049 size that even flew good.
Had one of those back in the day. Great little plane.
I just bought a box kite. I've wanted to learn to fly one since I was a young kid. We had kites, but they were rhe delta style because those are easy to fly. I hope I can learn without getting too discouraged!
I do not think the box kite is hard to fly it all but it takes a good deal of wind to get it to climb, I fly mine last Saturday.
