    Love listening to you guys share ideas! Regarding genetics verses environmental whether it’s a mix or not, I don’t know if personality traits are genetic at all! I’m leaning more and more towards it being completely environmental because in our formative years we are studying body language and character traits of our parents or who ever is present growing up! As you grow up you can choose to be just like the ones in your life that you admire for example your father, or you can change how and what you do in your life absolutely and still look a lot like your father! Of course people with bad upbringings of abuse also experience character traits, but they have a choice to change them! I use to be an introvert for years, but I came out my shell on my own and I’ve always been interested in people, but now I can communicate with anyone because I no longer care about sounding or looking like a fool! I use to be intimidated by people and their professions or if they were more educated than me, but then I learned to be curious and ask questions and if I get stumped and can’t really come up with an intelligent question, I shift to emotional questions. So if someone is an Aeronautical engineer and likes to talk, I will ask something like “so when you think back to when you first started and you had to choose to do this instead of playing for the Yankees, what was it that inspired you to be an aeronautical engineer?” Now, I find they will talk more than ever and with a smile! My connection to this person is deeper than any info that he could have given me and yet I still will learn something new that day! I believe patterning is a natural and necessary skill to be able to first say to your brain is that person a threat, then what do they want, what I can gain from them, or are they insignificant (for lack of another word) in this moment? Of course we all know after passing many people we don’t have to stop and think about this with every person. We’ve trained our brain to analyze someone very quickly and put them in a box and move on! You always have something to gain when encountering any person, even if it’s only to know if they are a threat or not. Thanks for sharing this video!

    I know Inside Out 2 was based more on growing up rather than the set scene itself that was more the scene of the movie , and the new emotions like Anxiety, Embarrassment , Envy , and more it was more based around Anxiety and how it has much of an effect on growing up , and understanding Anxiety as a character and how it effected Riley , this movie is in my opinion better to watch on your own rather than young kids because you’ll get into it more and understand it more on a deep level but just me 😅 , the writers wanted to focus more on Anxiety as it’s a powerful emotion to deal with , both movies made me cry a bucket load by the way 😅 The first Inside Out will always be the best one for me and yep tears definitely formed beneath my feet , Bing Bong absolutely annihilated me I can relate to you there Pixar has a habit of making people cry , Just watch UP 🥴

      Awwww your most welcome 🙏 it hit me hard especially what anxiety said to Joy “ I just wanted to protect Riley “ when Joy says “ You don’t get to decide who Riley is “ such powerful writing I cried pretty hard , in a way Anxiety is a mechanism that protects you from the harms of life but does cause harm in a way of protecting you for the wrong reasons ,,,, I suffer with social anxiety,,,, 🥴

    Just wanna say the bloke in the photos doing the expressions (I.M.O.)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is doing really bad acting out those expressions.. Anger looked like he is still willing to compromise equally.. disgust is like between 'about to cry' and confusion... surprise just makes him have a DUMB look on his face... fear just looks like he just told me something awkward... contempt just looks relaxed... sadness is actually pretty accurate... happiness looks nice my fav so far... It is actually funny to do a thought experiment about imagining being in a restaurant and someone is looking at you observing you (staring) and then imagining that they have no idea that they are being creepy they are just in wonder of whats around them and learning how to behave like the person they are staring at.. nek minnit you scoff at them and theyre like oh ok so wonderous people scoff at others...

    11:14 WHich is why every interview should be carried out with the aim of keeping any stress (there will always be some) to an absolute minimum. Hard to achieve, but stress just inflames anger, or shuts the conversation down. It’s one of the (many) reasons why I do not like the Reid Technique.

  • @doctordeej
    @doctordeej 4 месяца назад

    Really good point here. I often talk about baseline in my presentations I always stress the baseline is not a constant, but varies according to the situation. We really need a better word to describe it. A bot clunky but ‘contextual baseline’, or ‘situational baseline’?

    Hi guys, thanks for posting this video! Just my thoughts, and in the beginning Aaron was asking the question how to use EI in war and world leaders are too angry and you can’t change their minds! On a realistic level, I agree! These people regardless of their money, power, etc. are bullies! I always go back to school in my mind when I think about world leaders who hate or destroy! I remember almost every bully I encountered would be tough and relentless when their friends were around or there was an audience! However, whenever I was alone with the bully, he would be extra nice to me, usually insincere, but not bullying me! The moment he was with his friends again, he went right back to being mean! I always thought this behavior was interesting to me as an adult, because it shows a pattern of behavior! Only one kid I knew was a bully who didn’t need an audience! I think he was probably abused at home and liked to fight perhaps! With this information, I view world leaders and local followers of a hateful leader to act exactly the same! I noticed they are bold when they’re on social media or they know in their mind, that there are many more likeminded people who share their hate! Now, when I do actually get into an honest conversation with one of these “haters”, I find that they cling to their beliefs, but they tend to be nicer and maybe more honest in the conversation one on one! So just like the childhood bully alone with me, they don’t have their friends to support them in the moment! What I take from this is that almost all people want to belong to something, and with years of sports and competitive thinking in the world, almost all people will pick a side (team) usually based on familiarity (my favorite word) of friends, family, environment, and basically anyone who looks and acts like them! Myself included! I’m not necessarily talking about say skin color, but more so if a middle aged man is 30 lbs overweight, drinks beer, has a family, etc., he’s more inclined to side with the neighbor guy who is just like him as opposed to the neighbor that gets on his bicycle everyday! This is just one of many examples, and I truly believe that’s how people including the bullies come to choose a side and stick with it even when deep in their heart, they know that something’s are wrong by their leader! This in no way answers the question of how Emotional Intelligence can work in a war zone, but I think in my opinion that it rings true to the basic behavior of humanity and in this case to those that choose war and destruction!

      @EmotionIntell 5 месяцев назад

    I have always been fascinated by human behavior and have been trying to translate it on my own, without in-depth knowledge. Just my instinct. I have just started watching videos on RUclips about body language and microexpressions and am obsessed! 🙂 I will be truthful and will say that I watched the speech of Mrs. Dick all once and then a second time more carefully. I've shared my findings below. I have not continued watching the video nor have I read any comments from other viewers because I don't want to be influenced by others for my observations. I would highly appreciate it if you could make some comments/corrections to my comments. At the end of her first phrase mentioning "the mayor today", we can see clear contempt by lifting the left part of her lip. At the point that she says "to step aside", I can distinguish that her lips are open but tight, showing teeth. In my humble opinion, this is anger. I am sure she would slap the mayor if he were in front of her. 😀 Just a joke! At the point that she says "with deep sorrow and regret", her lips move downwards. There are indeed sorrow and regret, but also rage and disappointment due to tight lips. At the point that she says "greatest honor and privilege of my life", she is absolutely truthful and proud of herself. The tone of her voice is strong and steady, and at the same time she nodes her head i.e. she provides extra confirmation about her words. This lady must have loved her job and must have done the best she could do. At the point where she says "tough calls", we see her lips open but her lower jaw tight. I believe this shows anger and frustration for not being appreciated. She tries to pull herself together and control her emotions. During the time she mentions the tough calls we can distinguish anger, contempt, sadness and frustration. All of these from her mouth expressions. At the point where she talks about the confidence of the police service being damaged, she tights her lips together and the right edge of her lips goes downwards. At this point, she must have mixed feelings of anger, but also disappointment and sorrow. At the point where she says "I am very optimistic" about the new standards, she is not! The way she looked at the camera at the "I am" plus the lifted eyebrow indicates that she has serious doubts. In general, considering that throughout her speech she was almost breathless, and was blinking continuously, indicates that the lady was upset during her speech.

    Excellent points yet again chaps. One thing that frustrates me is the use of ‘normal’ as a context. We know we are all different and so a one-size-fits-all norm just isn’t there. I prefer what is ‘ordinary for that person in that situation’. Seems a play on words, but is softer and when applied across emotions, cultures and situations. The whole thing in my view is underpinned by that self-awareness.

    • @EmotionIntell
      @EmotionIntell 4 месяца назад

      Such a great and powerful point Luke! It's an impossible task to observe and attempt to interpret a person's behaviour if we're not first aware of our own. It's incredible how much our behaviour can immediately change the context, and therefore the behaviours of others.

    Another tip is to rehearse, rehearse, rehearse - You may be the smartest person in the room and have endless passion for your topic, but that doesn't automatically make you naturally good at public speaking. Practicing and getting feedback from those you trust can make all the difference. Thanks Aaron and Harry for a great discussion on the topic - and very timely as I am speaking to the local Toastmaster group this week on public speaking ...

    • @EmotionIntell
      @EmotionIntell 8 месяцев назад

      Absolutely, Laura. Some people possess excellent emotional skills without necessarily realising they are exhibiting them. The next step is to work on becoming consciously competent in these skills. This involves practising self-awareness and paying attention to what you are thinking and feeling when you observe behaviours in others and yourself. This process helps us learn and continue to develop these important skills... It sounds like you are off to a flying start. Thanks for watching 👍 - Harry
