    The Palestinians are semites. The Israelis are therefore the most antisemitic people in the world. Is genocide a Jewish religious value? I think ALL religions can be judged by the behavior of the people who practice them. We all see how the Israelis treat the Palestinians. It looks terrible, sadistic even. Is that an expression of your Jewish religion? American Jews are trying to tell people it isn't because they are afraid of where that can lead, but I think it is. It sure looks like it to me. I'm not antisemitic. I am anti-sadism, anti-satanic and anti sexual abuse. I think the Israelis need to clean up their act. But after studying them for many years, I also know they can't. They are doomed to destroy themselves - and they will take a whole lot of other innocent people down with them. Maybe all of us. Personally I think that means their religion is really stupid and basically evil. No one so far has told me anything good about it, maybe you can be the first one. LOL I hear you have nice ceremonies and prayers; fun stuff for kids.

      @@MatanLevkowich Zionism originated as a European settler Colonial movement. Its own founders described it this way. To say it is antisemitic to describe it this way, in the way THAT ITS OWN FOUNDERS DESCRIBED IT AS, is, in my original words, dumb and wrong. Let me use an analogy for you; a postmodern (an ideology with many Jewish roots btw) decolonization advocate would describe America in the same way. It was a settler colonial project that resulted in the genocide and forceful seizing of land. If one of these people saw what America was doing to the natives, they would have called them out for it, and many still want to give land and reparations to the natives today. Is it racist to Americans to say that they should not have created their home by violent occupation and genocide? No. In the same way, it’s not antisemitic to say that the Jewish people should not use violent occupation and genocide to create their own nation, which they are doing and have been doing (with the support of the British and NATO, not sure where you pulled that out of your ass) for decades. Anti Zionism is not anti semitism, and until you can get that through your heads, you are just as evil as the perpetrators of any genocide in human history.

      @@MatanLevkowich now I have to simplify my argument bc I’m not willing to type it all out again. Who else would have deleted my comment besides you? Basically, would you describe an anti colonial activist as racist against Americans bc they were opposed to the genocide of the natives? No, and you should apply the same principle to their arguments against Israel. Also Zionism was described by the people that made it as a settler colonial movement. And the British backed Zionists, and NATO continues to. Also I mentioned that postmodernism has deep roots with Jewish thinkers. (Not a criticism, I like postmodernism).

    Matan Hello Matan, Riccardo writing. I reached here from another YT comment you responded to, I am grateful for having watched this First, I would say that as a dancer of contact improvisation and researcher of psychology and consciousness, I much related to all you said. I am thankful you found such clear words for describing what I understand we both, and many others, have experienced. This is very valuable work. Second, most of my open questions relate to the imaginative state. It is big and abstract, and as such is what most closely relates to the structure of consciousness. It is likely that many different states exist within this. A lot of mediation and consciousness research studied these. The somatic and contemplative state is only the entry point of meditative practices. I have come across many relevant ideas from such studies but there space here is not suited for a review of existing perspectives. One aspect worth going into pertains the question as to whether all imaginal states are equally worth experiencing or not. In order words, does consciousness inherently seeks healing, harmony and expansion? If one believes so, then we can further understand imaginative states along this healing/expansion axes. Loving kindness meditation, authentic movement and movement psychotherapy are grounded in this assumption. Perhaps social progress too. Anyway, I am truly grateful for the ground you have been covering and how you are making it legible, it really feels much related to my journey. I wish we can cross paths one day, yet in the meantime I am glad I can learn from your online content

      Thank you for further engaging with my content. Regarding the question you bring here - 'whether all imaginal states are equally worth experiencing or not. In order words, does consciousness inherently seeks healing, harmony and expansion'. I don't really understand how the first sentence translates to the second but I am definitely curious about both questions. Are you living in Europe? If so, I will be teaching in a summer CI festival in Greece and I intend to share my practice of the 'Metaphysical body' over the intensive I will be guiding. Could be a great opportunity to dance and further this conversation in person!

    • @riccardovolpato6133
      @riccardovolpato6133 5 месяцев назад

      The first question translates to the second because if consciousness inherently seeks expansion/harmony then there probably is pleasure/value in understanding how to transition between states of low to high expansion/harmony, similarly to kinetic synchronisation between two bodies, what one may call perceptual synchronisation between parts/pockets of the field of consciousness I live in Scotland 😊 where can I find the details of the festival/intensive? Also, if you are interested in bringing this material to the UK/Scotland, I'd be happy to help organise

    Fascinating episode, thank you Matan. I want to dive deeper into one aspect. You bring out the "jam egregore" and the experience of transcending one's own sense of self into a collective experience of interconnectedness and unity. Then you talk about skill level and competence hierarchy. Now I ask: what skills do you think are required from the individuals that are present when an experience of collective interconnectedness and unity emerges? You talk about the ability of synchronise kinetic energy between two bodies, like more acrobatic contact moves enable. It seems to me being part of the skills, but there is more, perhaps much more. I have witness and danced with very acrobatic dancers, that can match the other person kinetic energy very well, and still did not feel transcendence and connection. The observation that acrobatic performances do not seem to induce the same degree of collective flow, may point in the same direction. Deep meditative states, on the other hand, appear to offer wide reaching synchronisation of perception without movement. My intuition is that the cross-sensory synchronisation of perception across individual requires more than kinetic flow. Such as a degree of self awareness and internal synchronisation, as well as a component of emotional openness and equanimity. Further, I think we have a very limited understanding of the structure consciousness, especially in scientific and explainable terms, and as such defining skills and level of competence regarding it seems incredibly difficult. My experience is that the equality sought by contact improvisation affords a degree of fluidity which enables people with implicit abilities to facilitate the synchronisation of perception/experience to bring it about. This does not happen always/often but it is also unlikely that at our stage of understanding we can engineer any structure that allows for its consistence emergence. Thoughts?

    • @MatanLevkowich
      @MatanLevkowich 6 месяцев назад

      Great questions you ask here my friend! I will start by stating that the experience of transcendence in dance can have different qualities. I can dissolve myself into the flow of kinetic energy, I experience myself as a flow of bodily sensations, I can dive into my imagination or a mix of all the above… What I am trying to point out is that you can arrive to your ‘destination’ but taking very different routes. Therefore, different skills will enable different experiences. I don’t think that simply knowing how to generate kinetic flow will always lead you to dissolve the boundaries between you and others but it is one of the paths you can take. I agree that there is more that we don’t know than what we know about our consciousness. There are no formulas but I do see certain patterns that can be implemented in jams in order to create a potential for such collective transformation. If you are interested in this topic, you might find the following page interesting. It is a lecture performance I offered on the topic of dance and altered states of consciousness: movementlab.eu/the-metaphysical-body

    Dear Matan, Thanks for this podcast. I deeply appreciate the honesty in your speech, the way you face questions with a lot of regards, with the consciousness that there can be a lot at stake behind any simple question. What i like the most is to see you in the process of thinking, in the process of elaborating a constantly evolving reflexion - and i can see it in your other podcasts, where you don’t act just as an interviewer but really as a thinker and a peer researcher for your guest. And while I was listening to you in this podcast, talking about the need of belonging of the human being and at the same time your experience of never feeling totally belonging to a community in particular, it came to me that it may have to do with this ever ongoing process of thinking, rethinking, evolving, being avalaible to let your underestanding and sensations being reshaped and reshaped again. We could consider that the need to belong to a community is not only, not to be alone, but also to have references, a certain stability, and with it, a certain sense of security. If this becomes proeminent, then community can tend to narrow its evolution, in order to keep a clear definition of itself and to reinforce the feeling of security and of belonging. You can observe how communities that want to stand as defined communities commonly share a certain type of clothing, manner of speaking, books of reference, political ideas, ... That may explain why a human being (you, maybe? :-) ) who is so willing to keep things alive and evolving might feel ill-at-ease with the notion of community and might unconsciously feel that there is a risk of sclerosing the vitality of the community, precisely when the group starts to define itself as a community. What do you think ?

      @MatanLevkowich 6 месяцев назад

      Hi there! Thank you for the kind words and for sharing your perspective. Interesting point of view. I can see how my personality plays a role with the notion of belonging - I am a very disagreeable person and therefore, find it hard to settle into any pre-established norms/ideas. I take pleasure in questioning things and that can indeed lead to ‘evolution’ of perspectives but limits my ability to confirm to any group think. There is another topic that plays a role and that has to do with my jewishness and the collective jewish story which is very intertwined with the feeling of ‘not belonging’. And this intergenerational story is pretty much alive in me… Thank you again for taking the time to listen and further sharing your perspective! Yours, Matan

      @@MatanLevkowich Hello Matan, Thank you for you answer. I am surprised by what you say about the jewish story and the feeling of « not belonging ». From a non-jewish point of view (mine), it looks like there is a strong claim of belonging in the jewish community, of belonging to this religious community, with its story, its culture, wether this belonging is publicly claimed or not. Isn’t it your experience? Or do you mean that, beyond this belonging to the jewish community, and maybe because of the jewish story, you feel in yourself that it is hard to feel belonging to another kind of community?

    • @MatanLevkowich
      @MatanLevkowich 6 месяцев назад

      @@Psychiatrieavotreecoute Ok. I will elaborate further. Since the destruction of the old kingdoms of the Israelites, the jewish people have been mainly living in the diaspora (beside a very small minority that kept living in the region). And as such, the notion of being the strangers, the others, not being fully at home, is a feeling that has been passed from generation to generation. Jews have regain their sovereignty only 76 years ago which is really not long ago. So yes, I do feel belonging to this tribe but our collective story is interwoven with the feeling of lack of belonging, collectively. And collective feelings are hard to change… Small anecdote, the idea of jewishness as merely a religious identity is a pretty new idea that emerged alongside the idea of nationalism. Jewishness was and still is first and foremost an identity of people, with a language, history, culture and as well a religious affiliation. But nowadays there are many secular jews as well. It is an important distinction to make if you want to really understand Jewishness. Yours, Matan

      @@MatanLevkowich Thank you very much Matan. I really appreciate that you take time to explain et develop. Indeed, although I know this history of the Jewish people, not only was I not conscious of the last part that you mention (the new aspect of considering jewishness as a religious identity rather than the identity of a people), but also, I had not realized how much this history had affected the sense of lack of belonging. It’s precious to hear it from someone who is directly concerned, because it helps to understand, although one can not really « know » how it is when it’s just not one’s identity, precisely. Thank you for your pedagogy.

      אתה צודק בביקורת שלך - לא פירקתי בצורה מדויקת מספיק מדוע הפרספקטיבה האנטי קולוניאלית מכילה בתוכה נקודות מוצא אנטישניות. אני יעשה וידאו נוסף לחדד את הנקודה הזו. בקצרה - בשביל להסיק את נקודות המוצא הללו, (שהציונות היא תנועה קולוניאלית) יש לפרק תחילה את התפיסה שיהדות היא זהות לגיטימית שזכותה להגדרה עצמית. ברגע שהמהלך הזה בוצע, המסקנה שהציונות היא תנועה קולוניאלית היא מתבקשת וברורה. הבעיה היא שפירוק היהדות לזהות דתית בלבד שאינה מכילה תחתה זהות אטתנית לאומית היא טענה במקרה הטוב נובעת מבורות גמורה לגבי יהדות ובמקרה הרע אנטישמית. לצורך הדגשה של הנקודה, בוא נעשה ניסוי מחשבתי - בוא נדמיין מציאות שבה הפלסטיניים מצליחים לפרק את מוקדי הכח של מדינת ישראל ומייצרים על חורבותיה מדינה פלסטינית עצמאית. בוא נדמיין שהם עושים זאת בעזרת תמיכה של מדינות ערב תוך קידום של הגירה של פליטים פלסטינים מרחבי העולם. האם זה יהיה נכון לתאר תנועה שכזו כתנועה קולוניאלית? סביר להניח ששום חוקר של פוסט קולוניאליזם לא יעלה זאת על דעתו. השאלה המתבקשת מתוך הדוגמא למעלה היא העם לפליטות יש תאריך פקיעה? האם לעם ששואף לחזור למולדתו יש מרחב זמן שבוא השאיפות הן לגיטימיות? או שמה השאיפה לחזרה היא מה שמאפשרת את השמירה על הזהות הלאומית? וזאת עוד נקודה מבין רבות שהסיפור היהודי מקביל לסיפור הפלסטינאי.

    Hey, I started watching this (arrived at 2 thirds), I appreciate a lot you have done this and made it public. One question that arose: why did you not just meet and film the conversation? Unfortunately many questions or statements of Johannes are not understandable due to bad internet connection which really is a drag and could have been avoided. This is meant as a question in first place, not a critique. Me too I am quite interested in the question about how trying to establish or pursue justice can make a peace process difficult or impossible. But I think it's misleading to want to abolish any activity pursuing justice. Or to think that justice is in any way preventing peace. I think it's a question of balance and compromises. And I am quite sure that if we talk too negative about justice this will close the door to most of the people to this promising idea. I think I will do more comments when finding the time to finish watching.

      Thank you for taking the time to listen so far and also for contributing your thoughts directly here. As for the technical issues, I don't usually record the podcast with ZOOM, but with another app that uses local recording, so any issues with internet connectivity don't affect the end result. I did use ZOOM this time because I wanted to get the content out as quickly as possible and it is a bit faster in post-production. All recent and future episodes will not have this problem. Regarding the second comment - from reading your words, I can assume that we see things quite similarly - justice and peace are not opposing values, but in the absence of one, they collapse completely. In my estimation, within the currently dominant Palestinian discourse, the sense of justice doesn't so often include peace, so 'from the river to the sea' becomes the dominant meme. On the Israeli side, it is quite similar. In the 90s, at least on the Israeli side, there was a strong peace movement. I think one of the reasons it failed was the lack of ability on the Israeli side to really engage with the Palestinian sense of justice. In the current zeitgeist, most people in Israel don't believe that we have any chance of a diplomatic solution with the Palestinian leadership and people... There are peace activists, of course, but they are more on the fringes. Having said that, there are a lot of Israeli Jewish and Israeli Arab solidarity movements and that is something I am very happy to see growing in Israel.

      @@MatanLevkowich Maybe let's define dirty pain and clean pain a bit clearer? the dirty pain I refer to is the unpleasant (unavoidable) pain of life that teaches, the pain that brings life lessons and should you never experience it you would never grow, have perspective or the ability to empathise etc. This at least for me implies necessity. Clean pain is for me what the Chinese refer to as "the small pain to heal the big pain" or healing pain.

    Weather crossing the road or wearing a mask it should always be an individuals personal choice, when one individual or a group puts their choice forcefully onto another this is not okay. Conversations can take place and decisions can be made together also compromises can be made where both sides feel that it works. Perspectives will always contradict and this is life embrace the complexities and don't try to control.
