    First off thank you Spencer for sharing your wealth of knowledge. Just thinking out loud if we have to produce a design to use either an internal core or a separate cpc instead of the armouring due to an environmental condition or some other reason, but the armouring is glanded into a metal enclosure surely the armouring would still count towards the sum of the cpc due to parallel paths and have the same emc/reactance affects. The only way i can see you can truly achieve seperation and the armourings not forming part of the earth path would be to isolate and insulate the armours at one end, with the other connected to earth, then you truly have a separate cpc. However you still may have parallel paths through other metal components but the emc issue will not have the same effects due to the armouring path being broken. Am i over thinking this or should installation practices alter when this condition is present? Also regarding swa cables buired direct and the armourings needing to be the CPC, should more emphasis be made in guidance notes regarding this as i suspect this is one regulation that is often overlooked? Achieving this can be a challenge with some equipment such as street furniture, ground mount EV chargers etc as there is generally no place to make a gland off too. This often leads to installers using an internal cpc and taping up the armourings or fitting a gland with cpc link but the gland and cable float in the air so are technically unsupported with no room for the electrician to retro fit a bracket of sorts for the gland to be secured too.

    Daft questions for clarity PNB, with PNB any installation requirements that are specific to PME don't apply? so for example installing an EV charger on a PNB installation would the requirements for PEN conductors not be a factor/requirement?

    • @ECALive
      @ECALive Месяц назад

      Thanks for your question. You are correct, although PNB is a form of TN-C-S, it is not PME. Any specific requirements relating to PME do not apply and the requirements of BS 7671 can be followed as normal. This has significant advantages with Net Zero Technologies such as Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment. For more help and assistance with your enquiry and to learn more about PNB please visit www.eca.co.uk/technical

    Do conductors in parallel not have to be the same CSA, same material etc even for a circuit protective conductor (2 x cpc’s in parallel)?

      No. If yoou look at 543.2.1 in BS7671 you will see that a protective conductior can be made up of multiple systems

    1) By reflecting away 30% of ISR the albedo, which would not exist w/o the atmosphere, makes the earth cooler than it would be without the atmosphere like that reflective panel set on the dash. Remove the atmosphere/GHGs and the earth becomes much like the moon, a barren rock with a 0.1 albedo, 20% more kJ/h, hot^3 on the lit side, cold^3 on the dark. Nikolov, Kramm (U of AK) and UCLA Diviner mission all tacitly agree. 2) the GHG up/down welling, “trapping”/”back” radiating/delaying/intercepting, 100 % efficient, perpetual warming loop requires "extra" energy which according to RGHE theory it gets from 3) the terrestrial surface radiating that "extra" energy as a near ideal .95 emissivity black body which 4) it cannot do because of the non-radiative heat transfer processes of the contiguous atmospheric molecules. 1+2+3+4 = 0 Greenhouse Effect + 0 Greenhouse gas warming + 0 man caused climate change. Why are these constant amendments necessary? Honestly! What specific events have occured since the introduction of amendment 3 to justify the pending 18th edition?.... That's assuming a 4th amendment doesn't squeeze in in the meantime! A few more quid to be made...

    • @compoundelectrical7649

      The changes to the 17th Edition were mostly due to European Harmonisation. It wasn't so long ago when Live & Neutral were red and black. The 18th Edition includes an entirely new section, Part 8 on Energy Efficiency, something that affects everyone's future. With new technologies constantly appearing, the regulations will have to encompass these as they are introduced. You will not have long to wait, the 1st Amendment to the 18th has already commenced.

      You’re right, BS 7671 is not mandatory. However electrical installations which conform to BS 7671 are regarded by HSE as likely to achieve conformity with the relevant parts of the Electricity at Work Regulations - which is Law.
