Tell you what 2Cents, why don't you walk on down to your closest Social Security office and walk in and ask to speak with a rep? The guard (he's required to be there) will tell you that you need to call and make an appointment, all visits are by appointment only. Walk on back home and call to make an appointment - NO ONE ANSWERS THE PHONE, even if you hold for hours! And that is why people need to get back into the office. If you are believing that you get 8 hours work for 8 hours pay from people at home, you're living in a fantasy land!

That city used to be packed with offices and stores rentals in the mid 90's before we moved back to Canada. It's shocking. But in my city in London, Canada the downtown is blighted with drug addicts and vagrants. Businesses are leaving because the city won't deal with the problem. But Klingon Brandon and Gargoyle Lightfoot, really helped ruined the downtown core due all of the George Floyd riots and the random mass swarming robberies. It's pathetic. Add to this the high taxation and unsafe surroundings that compounds the situation.

Yup..Like a commenter said below about Philly, the same in DC..Bowser was complaining about the lack of patrons in the eateries and cafes that are downtown, as well as other businesses. It's not the job of government or any employee for that matter to patronize a business if they don't want to. Now, something that wasn't broken, will be broken in many pieces and it will be hard to fix.

You’re correct on costs of labor. But what makes it worse is that MANY of them are paid under the table and the companies and workers don’t pay tax. But they live off the tax payers dime. Also, almost all illegal workers send a huge portion of that money back to their families and its strips Americas wealth.! More money going out than coming in. We are already BROKE!

This has nothing to do with work from home. It has to do with a woke mayor who puts the needs of criminals and illegals before the citizens of Chicago. How long do you think the business will stay when they are getting looted over and over and at the same time are getting taxed to death.

And you know why these stores are vacant because of the crime and theft in those neighborhoods that are mostly caused by the immigrants that they are protecting in this city, they go into these stores.They steal everything they can carry out the front door and then they sell it on the sidewalk in the front and nobody does anything about it

My ex died on January 12th, and I spent 10 hours in two phone calls trying to reach the SSA to apply for widows benefits. I never got anyone on the phone, so on January 21st, I went to the office. They aren't accepting walk-ins UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Criminal Behavior. How many of these employees are actually working other jobs while collecting a paycheck?

One thing society isn’t acknowledging is that in theory these downtown businesses are non essential and technically destination businesses. Meaning business is only driven when people are in the area for work which realistically is not sound reason anymore. Good businesses integrate themselves in people’s day-day lives. You don’t see local businesses in neighborhoods close bc they compliment each other. Yes - downtown businesses are not local businesses.

Well my friend is all the cities are like that Ellie's like that St Louis you can go down probably Florida I'm sure New York is like that it's just what's going on but keep in mind they going to have to fix this and all the cities it's just not your city just pretty much all the cities I've seen it in LA.and in San Francisco unfortunately that's what's going on.

SMH reading some of the ignorant comments. WFH is not for everybody or job. But my staff of 100 employees work longer/harder & more productive WFH. Got metrics fm the past 10 yrs to prove it. Being in the office may lead to more distractions. Many commentors have made good points re: WFH. A couple of more: I worked in a large bldg. 15-30m/day avg time going to meetings to meetings. Multiply that by # of emps doing the same thing. Wasteful. Also, my employees are all of the country. So, I'm still doing virtual meetings. SMH.

Its not companies, bud. It’s city and state business regulators trying to pinch every last penny out of us in one form or another in taxes, fees, gas ect. Look at the bigger picture. Who REALLY has the most to gain or lose as far as revenue?

Lots of crab bucketting here, working from home is not a vacation, your working, often longer hours than in office. And its worth it cause your not wasting your time in traffic, id happily work from home 9 hours a day than 8 with 2 hours wasted on commuting. Not to mention money saved on gas.

I go to work everyday and so can all Federal workers. I worked right through the pandemic watching all of you stay home and get paid. Well, your vacation is over.

People need to report back onsite to work, a maybe Hybrid schedule, Or start their own company. That said, Nurses, doctors, EMS workers, sanitation workers, stock personnel for grocery stores, daycare workers, cashiers, teachers, police officers, mail carriers, Gas station Attendants, McDonalds, farmers, traders, contractors, construction workers, housekeepers and etc have reported to Work throughout the Pandemic…

Illegals are bad news and all sorts of way especially these types. They are not here for asylum but for economics (job/or NO job). They are a delight for employment because they are willing to work at much lower wages causing US workers to go unemployed and inflation going higher. The illegals leech from the state/city funds, as you already know. Illegals do not pay taxes and often times send their US dollars to their own home country.
