    Is the blue flame of cooking gas (PNG or Piped Natural Gas where I live) enough for the purpose? I dont have access to any other heating source. How do you know when it has reached the correct temperature required? And how long do you keep it submerged in the oil before taking it out?

    • @PastmasterBuilds
      @PastmasterBuilds 21 день назад

      I think PNG has enough burning temperature to heat metal. You need 300-400c to get the best results, so heat the piece until it becomes blue. You also can google: The Color Spectrum of Heated Steel. Submerge in vegetable oil for 15-20 seconds.

      Had the same issue first time brother, use slightly different locations for the blade until you will find the spot where it will go smoothly. Also try to pull the string in a down direction.

    So it’s that easy to ‘blue’ steel? Just heat? Awesome thanks!

    • @retardno002
      @retardno002 3 дня назад

      Yeah, as long as you don't care about the heat treatment, which this process ruins. So unless you have a way of tempering steel after this process, I don't recommend doing it on anything that you want to last. It won't rust anymore but it will break lol.

    Could i do this to a pistol slide and barrel?

  • @lecobra418
    @lecobra418 5 месяцев назад

    I did it and it doesn't work, I don't know why, perhaps the fan is not powerful enough or I'm using sand and it is too heavy or moist to properly oscillate, I don't know... The plate is vibrating pretty heavily and I do think it oscillates but the sand inside the container remains still... Frustrating to be honest. Good video tho.

    this is a fake, the insert is stamped December 2003 and doesn't have the correct riveting, flint tube brass spout height and cam for its era and the case is made in 2004.... this is not a 40 year old zippo, not even at the age to be technically called vintage yet either, most likely a commemorative design model that was probably made to look old for video purposes
