    The fireflies I had on my land in the Alps showed a detectable bias toward the common ivy edge with its trimmings and relative compost. So, it may help to observe your own population.

    My yard looks much like Bonita's. I think it takes a lot more intentional work to maintain a 'wild mess' yard than it does swaths of dead zone kentucky bluegrass. My neighbors all hate my yard, but I think they're just jealous! One woman sent her husband over to ask why I have butterflies when no one else does. I love the forest, so I've tried to mimic it in my front yard with all of the different layers. I also leave dead logs lying around for the lightning bugs. Someone once told me that you have to create the life you want to live. I want to live surrounded by trees, flowers, birds, butterflies & lightning bugs ❤

      I think it may appear more complicated because she's really taking her time explaining what she's doing. But I find with this kind of origami, once you do a couple of them in that slow more painstaking way, it becomes more second nature and goes relatively quickly. If you disagree, though, look around for the kind that people make around jars with newspaper. It's not origami and is super quick and easy.

    How long does the dye last? (Assuming this is measured in number of normal laundry wash cycles)

    • @BerriesandBushcraft
      @BerriesandBushcraft Год назад

      It's our first time, so not 100% sure! The internet says it should last a while but might need to be redone at some point. Research also said we wouldn't need to apply anything after the color to help it stick because of the natural tannins, but I think next time we'll try vinegar and other mordants to see if we can make the color even darker in the final product

    I'm also in eastern ontario and found this video looking them up after seeing them in my backyard in the evening while I was letting out my dog. So many of them! And since they flash as the sun is setting you can still see them without their light and I caught one which was pretty easy because they are slow flyers. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure they realize their flashes would be wasted while sitting in a bottle so they just never did so I released him.

      It’s a great concise teaching video. I love Bonita and Sebastian for their contribution to the environment. I will look for the book. Light pollution and squeaky clean lawns doesn’t make our neighbourhood eco friendly. I’m trying to get my city to turn off lights that are on all night close to my pollinator community garden. Do you have any links or references that I can give to the city about lights?
