    Paintings & Illustrations, i used each piece is: Op 8 no 1, Illustration from "Kotofey Ivanovich" by Yevgeny Rachyov « Here op 8 no 1, It resembles an ironic air of "minuet", decorated with acciaccaturas ornaments. I choose this to be the most appropriate fairytale illustration that fits this description best. » ___________________§_______________ Op 9 no 1, The Painting "Ivan Tsarevitsch rides gray wolf" by Viktor Vasnetsov « After the dramatic beginning in F minor 9:51 There is a walking rhythm, It looks like an escape (at least I imagined this) Right after 10:32 It becomes capricious and the run accelerates. As this drama-like tale I chose the famous tale of Ivan when he kidnaps his daughter from the Magician » _________________§______________ Op 9 no 2, Illustration from Michael and the Princess scene, "Twelce Dancing Princesses" by Kay Nielsen « I choose this image for the piece's air of "serenade". A boy who tries to attract or seduce a beautiful princess." ________________§________________ Op 9 no 3, Illustration "Fairy Islands" by Ida Rentoul Outhwaite from book 'Elves and Fairies' « Image selected after researching the piece, this pastoral piece inspired from that poem from Goethe: A little bud with a lovely blossom sprang early from the ground along came a little bee and sipped delicately:- they must have been made for each other Source: hyperion-records.co.uk The piece accordingly appears to mimic the flightiness of a bee's wings. In short, I chose fairies perched on flowers to suit this poem, which is a love interpretation of the nature of a flower&bee. » _________________§_________________ Op 14 no 1, Painting "Ophelia" by John William Waterhouse « Piece's nickname is "Ophelia's Song" » ________________§________________ Op 14 no 2, Image "Templier" woven wall hanging (?) « Piece Nicknamed "March of the Paladins" so i put templar paladin photage. » ________________§________________ Op 20 no 1, Illustration from "Romeo and Juliet" balcony scene by John H. F. Bacon « Medtner said to his pupil Edna Iles about this piece in a short: "Play as if appealing to someone with a fervent entreaty" - Source: hyperion-records.co.uk So i imaged for scene *Romeo passionately declares his love for Juliet* » ________________§________________ Op 20 no 2, a image references photo "Bells on A Hindu Temple in Kathmandu, Nepal" Shikhar Bhattarai. «The piece was nicknamed la campanella. But unlike Paganini's famous light piece of the same name, this piece is quite dark. The intro of the piece says "minaccioso", meaning threatening. The same expression is also found in the sonata op 53 no 2. In short, it represents the threatening ringing of somber bells. Of course, the image has been darkened and contrasted to match the piece. » ________________§________________ Op 26 no 1, Unknown artist(?) painting name(?) «It was chosen entirely according to the pastoral, relaxed atmosphere of the piece." ________________§________________ Op 26 no 2, Illustration from "The Wolf and The Kid" by Milo Winter from the book "Aesop Fables" « A fairy tale illustration dedicated to the tarantella-like figures around the exciting character of the piece » ________________§________________ Op 26 no 3, Painting "Portrait of Mateu Fernandez de Soto" by Pablo Picasso « Ah, Literally one of my favourite artist on again one of my favourite fairy tale. One of the examples that best evokes melancholy for me » ________________§________________ Op 26 no 4, Painting "In Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius" by Nikolay Dubovskoy «It is difficult to come up with an image for this piece, but for me it is a nostalgic narrative of a Russian winter day » ________________§________________ Op 31 no 3, painting name (?) artist(?) « Op 31 set was written in memory of A. Stanchinsky after his tragic death. This piece is also quite melancholic and deeply resonant on this occasion. This piece reminds me: While the night has begun to kill the day, While a bitter and violent wind blows inside, a sorrowful stroll with watching the reflections in the waters. » ________________§________________ Op 34 no 1, Painting "Vanitas still life" by Jan Lievens « It may sound strange firstly about image with the piece, but all the pieces in the op 34 set are inspired by poems and the images have been chosen to match them. The name of the piece here is "magic violin". Medtner does not specify, but it is likely inspired by Nikolay Gumilev's poem of the same name. Here is the English translation of the poem: "Darling boy, You are so merry, your smile is bright and clean, Don't ask for this perfect happiness, poison for all our worlds… You don't know, You don't know what defines this polish violin, What secret horror hides in these initial accords. A someone who takes her body in his imperative embrace, Will forget a peace in soul and lose placid light in eyes; Helly spirits like to hear these divine and regal plays, Rage and fury beings ramble on the violinist's trace. Always to be beating, weaving these clear strings in every sound, Eternally frantic bow will cry, weep in time across… And in downpour, in hail, and on white and wild ground, And until the west is firing, and when blushing east is grows. You'll be tire, and die away, instantly the song will worse. In that time You cannot even lift a finger or make breathe, - In the moment wild wolves will catch your throat by jaws, In a bloody frenzied motion they will get up to your breast. You'll be reason in that moment how sounds has been laugh And blood-thirty frights ticken at your terrified eyes, And the freezing deathly cold shackle up all in and out And your bride will be in tears, and your friend will fall in rise. Young boy, keep moving! There are not any treasures near here But I see you gaily smile, your glance is like a rays… Do it, well, posess the violin, look at twinkling eyes of fear And be lost by glorious passing, by the violinist's death" -Translation by Serge Makedon (Also u can look other translations) So, parallel to this poem, the piece begins with a feeling of compassionate pity & sadness. Then the piece intensifies as the violin goes crazy, spit fire, and becomes more intense on poem. In short, I put a vanitas in this piece that reminds of death along with the violin: the fatal violin » ________________§________________ Op 34 no 2, two images used here First one- painting "The Gust of the Wind" by Jean François Millet Second one- Illustration "On the Riverbank" by Ivan Bilibin «I used two images in this piece because Medtner has different descriptions of this piece. First of all, the piece quotes Tyutchev's poem: "...what we once called ours is gone for ever" Here's the poem: Peace When what we called our own has left us forever and, as if we lay in our grave, there's a heavy weight upon us, we can always cast a fleeting glance across the waters' slope where streams flow headlong, wherever the current leads. .......... Jostling each other, the currents run, hurry to some fateful summons they've heard in the distance. .......... Vainly we observe them. They'll never return, but the longer we watch, the easier we breathe. .......... Tears spring to our eyes and through them we see, excitedly bubbling, everything more swiftly born away. .......... The soul becomes oblivious and feels right then that it too is borne away by omnipotent waters. Also on same piece Medtner described to his friends for the work: "a tale told by a river bank" Thats why i used two images. First one is symbol of a loss (according poem) that blows away like the wind (left hand position) Also The poem and Medtner's expression clearly refer to the roaring river current, so the main image here is the river bank. (left hand also fits this river narrative) » ________________§________________

    Technically, they should be called “tales”, “stories” or maybe “ballade” in English. They’re the stories of a man’s life and thoughts instead of some fictions.

    • @fredericfrancoischopin6971
      @fredericfrancoischopin6971 20 дней назад

      @@rexy7399 I agree on some points but i should add, it depends on approach. Medtner seems approached differently on each piece. But that thing is clear: None of them have the air of a childish fairy tale. In Russian, skazka really means fairy tale. For example, Prokofiev wrote a tale under this name for children, look on op 65. But Medtner seems to be going beyond the meaning of the word here. Some of his works are really ballads, also while some of his works are seriously influenced by fairy tales. For example, op 14 no 1 references to Ophelia going mad from Hamlet. Its more like Ophelia's Ballade. Another example is op 35 no 4, which quotes King Lear and is also closer to a ballade. Some works were influenced by romantic poems instead of quoting fairy tales, op 34 are an example of this. In fact, the illustrations I put here are related to those poems. The first poem is about a child and a violin. The second poem is about a river current, the third poem is about a forest witch or dwarves, the last poem is about a knight who saw the Virgin Mary and all the illustrations refer to these. Anyway, some of Tales are directives only for the purpose of creating certain images and impressions. Like op 8 no 2, op 35 (except no 4) op 31 no 3, op 26, op 42 examples. But op 51 represents cinderella and ivan the fool, According to Composer himself. Op 51 no 2 is Cinderella's song, op 51 no 6 is Ivan the Fool's song. Op 8 no 1 sounds like a whimsical a game in a tale. Op 9 no 3 He is impressed by a slightly fable-like poem about a bee. Or op 48 no 2, called Elfentale, sounds like a melancholy Elf's ballade Etc. So, in short, not all of Medtner's tales fit completely into the name fairy tale. They all have their characteristic differences, they are all very special. This shows the talent of the composer.

      @@fredericfrancoischopin6971 You're totally right! Medtner expanded the concept of the word, much like Chopin did with the Nocturne. I meant to highlight that the general meaning of 'fairy tale' in English often confuses people and leads to the overlooking of these gems. What a shame!
