    Quick question: My wife has a 2019 harley sportster 1200ns. We bought it brand new. only has 900 miles on it now. I never rode it till a year ago, and it has a horrible vibration from the drive belt. I can put the bike on a stand and shift through the gears, seeing the belt twist under load. What will cause it to do that?

    this problem could also be caused by a master cylinder not returning the plunger to the proper position, if it is sticking the dust boot for the plunger will not contact the brake lever. I had this issue on a recently purchaed bike and found the master cylinder was full of goo and crap so cleaned and rebuilt master cylinder.

      I have a 2023 Sport Glide, same colour as yours. It’s my first Harley and so far I am really pleased with it. I think all your modifications are sensible and like others, I was impressed with the Probeam running lights. With regards to these lights, are they Road legal for the U.K.? Also if you fitted them yourself, are there any changes required to the wiring to allow the white running lights to be continuously illuminated. Many thanks, Mark (Mr B)

  • @oldphart-zc3jz

    If you bother to open the timing chest it only makes sense given the labor to upgrade the shoes or at least replace them since it's not much work and DIY labor is free, so I do and save the old shoes to properly scare friends who neglect to inspect their own. So far persuading my bros to upgrade saved two engines from imminent shoe failure. When those come apart IF you shut down in time you still get to retrieve the crumbs which is an (easy but tedious) engine R&I then very tedious teardown and flush. Doing customer bikes while part timing at my mentor's shop got the point across as both failed outside their warranty period. Few Harleys are truly high mileage which delays failures and few owners who are not mechanics know to have their shoes inspected so these problems will be killing engines for many years. Best to look and know what you have.

    I’m torn between the new Fatboy or Sportglide, haven’t ridden either yet, just sat on them ! , I’m 71 and last bike was Ducati 907, 30 years ago ! And Kawasaki Z1000ST before that. From all reviews I guess the Sportglide would handle better than Fatboy I like all the mods you’ve added, especially exhaust and Floorboards - as a matter of interest does adding an aftermarket exhaust affect warranty ? And how much was first service ? Cheers 😊

    • @scenewithchips8993
      @scenewithchips8993 3 месяца назад

      Hi, I am also 71 and Harleys tend to be heavier than the speed bikes, if you look through my videos you will see that I had a Fatboy for 9 years. I went for the Sport Glide as it was lighter but also it handles better due to the inverted forks. The new Fatboys are very nice but about 20kg heavier and with the fat back tyre don’t handle as well. I don’t know where you live but I certainly would recommend getting a test ride on both, if you can you probably need a few hours to get the feel. If I was recommending I would go for the sport glide due to its versatility. Regarding the warranty, the aftermarket exhaust slip on does not affect the warranty. The 1st service is about £250, I get all my work done by the mechanic you see in my videos but he is based in Anglesey. If you’re buying a new bike I would try and negotiate the first service included 😉 welcome back to 2 wheels after 30 years , be careful, but saying that if rode a Ducati you’re obviously an experienced rider. Good luck, let me know what you decide 👍

      @@scenewithchips8993 Thanks for the info, I live in WLondon but moving to Dorset , I have nowhere to keep a bike at the moment …. One of the reasons I want to move… I have friends in the New Forest Chapter, hence going for Harley and ‘joining in’ 🙂 I went to Guildford Harley to look at Sportglide, they told me warranty would be ok as long as they fitted exhaust/ air filter/ tune up. £2k… Reinhardt do a slip on for £500 and no need for tune, keep original air filter , just a thought . I’ve sold my house and now looking, so I guess it’ll be a couple of months, but I’ll let you know how I get on 🙂

    I have a 2004 softail 9K miles pulled my cover the tensioners have no wear! You can inspect the rear with a dentist mirror. Easy to pry the tensioner up and with a light you can see. I've heard the rear wears quicker than the front. 2003 and up they used a smoother cam chain which helped the problem immensely. 1999 -2002 you better keep a very close eye on.
