    I am thinking if you play most of a piece like this, and then end in a section starting on the 6th, it would be weird but super relieving since it would then sound like mixolydian all of a sudden.

    If somebody tells me "Composing in Locrian does not make sense", it is the same like saying. "Commucation in a OVS (Bbject-Verb-Subject) language is impossible". Although there are very few languages with this word order, communication is still people. Locrian music is still melodic, but the home chord is unstable, that is it.

    Loved the Bartokian style piano writing, the toccata-like opening movement is fascinating. Slow movement is so dark it's almost pitch black, and contains some interesting orchestral effects that work well. Frenzied finale that brings the piece to a glittering conclusion. Great concerto.

    I notice Locrian as more of a component in pieces that require the tonic or home chord to be something that's not diminished. A diminished chord can never feel like home plate. However, Bjork figured how to achieve a #10 hit in the UK with Army of Me back in '1995. Great song.... totally works and it was popular with people who have no concept of Locrian.

      @@Bronze_Age_Sea_Person I'm thinking more along the lines of a horror/detective show. Either way, music doesn't necessarily *have* to be bound by exacts. If a piece evokes a feeling of uncertainty and obscurity, then I think it's appropriate for detective stuff.

      When I compose with locrian,I tend to use lots of arpeggios,ostinatos and quartal chords,even my root is a quartal,since it's more stable than the diminished one.After all,locrian is made of stacked quartals,why not use quartal harmony?

    • @DisturbedVette
      @DisturbedVette 4 года назад

      When I improvise in locrian I like to avoid the 6th degree, so I’m effectively playing in a 6 note scale. This way it harder for the second degree to establish itself as the tonic, turning it into Ionian or major. It also sounds kinda cool not having it there. I too am trying to compose a song in locrian, rather than just improvising. I’m even training my ear to hear diminished chords as tonics, even though it’s supposed to be impossible.
