root gap is basically depend on welding process, end application of the application of the system.
in this video we have discussed root gap required for SMAW GTW MIG welding process.
we refer WPS for a root gap in our piping weld joints is per approved WPS.

Whilst I appreciate the information you have provided, the detail that you displayed at 2:52 does not work. Have you considered the differential movement between wall and slab? You have shown the brace connected to wall with the hanger to be connected to slab. Under seismic activity, the wall will move differently compared to the slab therefore the rigid brace will not appropriately work under tension and compression loads
