Is 5 man stand an east coast term?
No sir, what do you call it where you’re from?
5 Stand
Annoying music
Dang, I’m sorry Keith Parry. There is a mute button on each video if that helps. Maybe you’ll find one of mine that’s to your liking. Thank you for the comment and honesty!
Nice to see someone else shooting maintained lead and doing well. I have to remember to shoot swing through on the targets that have short windows to get the line right. Best of luck and see ya in master class in 2024!
Just an observation, Justin, but it sure appears like your Shotkam is not calibrated. The reticle is often well above the target and yet you are breaking them. I've been using a Shotkam for about a year myself. Hope this helps. Keep up the good work. It's appreciated.
Hey Gary! I don’t keep my shotkam mounted on my gun. I remove it after every shoot. So I have a quick system to be able to mount my shotkam, get it close to 20-30 yards and go shoot. Plus you have to think about the presentation of the targets you see that might be off and the distance they are from me when I’m shooting. Thanks for the comment!
Good review and report on the rules. I'm not a skeet/trap shooter in terms off competition or casual, no dog in this fight. You guy's are pro's and have to follow the rules of engagement. If you hold up the line to review every shot, that would get old and I'm sure would cause a quick rule change. I understand that plenty of money gets handed over to pro trainers to learn proper stance, shouldering, and swing technics. At the level you are shooting the Shotkam will not bust that bird for you or me sitting in the marsh. Mr. Stewart has developed a camera that will record a memory that can be revisited over and over. As well the Shotkam is quite durable, ask me how I know. I mount my gen 2 on the crossbow, compound, and shotty. I often find myself screaming at the computer/phone screen CHOOT CHOOT as I review the video. Best wishes to everyone in their competitions. Misses happen.....call for another bird!
Always look for the next bird. There’s nothing you can do after it hits the ground. Thanks for the comment! Look forward to seeing you in future comments
Good shooting with you again man. Keep at it!!
Thank you sir good seeing you
Well worth the wait!!
Awesome! Glad you like the videos my friend!
Bluegrass and Clays !! Love it 😀
Nice job! You were shooting with some great guys. Brian DeMott and Randall Harris are two of the best!
Loads of fun. Real funny guys for sure. Loads of laughs!
I wish I could of joined you man, I see Brian was in your group! I’ve never shot FITASC before. Are you only permitted to shoot 1oz? Hope to shoot with you soon, buddy!
Yea you’re only allowed to shoot 1oz!
Biscuit says thanks for the cameo 🐶🐶
Great stuff man! Keep it up.
Appreciate it!
Awesome shooting with you man can’t wait to do it again!!!

Yessir! I look forward to it! Thanks again for holding my hand during FITASC and helping answer my questions.
Hey guys and gals leave a comment if I ran into you or you saw me out and about! Love to connect with the shooters that participated this weekend!
First off, i think this is a really interesting concept for a video. Its a shame its been 2 months and no one has commented. Here’s my take: 1. Looks like you nicked the left to right quartering bird. If you missed, it looked like to me you mis-judged the apex and or flinched and shot right over the top. There’s a reason you see really good sporting clays shooters shoot targets on the way up or down, but less frequently at the top. The reason is to avoid this miss. When the target is on a line, up or down, its more predictable and you can make a better move. Right to left bird when you broke it, you started off with a maintained lead and connected with a lot more gap. When you missed, it looked like more of a pull-away. It looks like you shoot maintained or diminishing lead most of the time, so i’d say for your style of shooting, the bird just flat beat you and the pull-away move was you trying to recover. I don’t think you picked it up visually where you would have liked to. 2. Couldn’t tell if you hit the left to right bird or not. On the rising right to left bird, you spot-shot it both times. You came up to the bird and rather than connecting with it and moving on the line, you moved to it and pulled the trigger where you saw it. By not trying to move on the line of the bird, you went too far back and pulled the trigger with your barrel behind the target. You get more time to acquire bird 2 if you practice picking up and smacking bird 1 sooner. The biggest take-away from that pair is that you gave yourself no time to make a good move on the 2nd target. 3. Looks like you connected with the bird with the gap you wanted, but you never really moved with the target or made a connection. That slight slowdown of your gun and maybe a little flinch put you behind and maybe a little bit over the top. Connect with that one a split second earlier and even follow it a bit more and you don’t miss it. 4. Back to not shooting targets at the apex. You spot shot this one as well. Match the speed of the bird as it starts to fall and hit it as a dropper. Doesnt mean you have to let it fall 10 feet, but let the bird establish a line for you to follow.
Awesome analysis! I’m glad you appreciate this kind of interactive video! Thanks for the comment!
3 shots behind u lol
i was here this year i shot 12ga and 5 stand but not main event.
I have the shotcam .I've had it for a few beers I really wish they could make this unit half the size. with today's camera technology I can't believe that they can't reduce its size by half. Especially for the price. I would also like to see a finger activation button for this unit or touch Activation. when you are ready to shoot you don't need to Rack the action or tap the gun. Voice activation would also be interesting specially for trap shooters.
The touch feature would be interesting to see. Voice activated could be tricky. I agree weight and size would be nice to come down on the next generation. Thank you for the comment and hope to see you comment on future videos!
Nice video! Keep up the good work! I would like to see a video on how to get started shooting clays... Maybe a noob introduction series?
Hey sorry, so cameras allowed under FITASC too or just under non-FITASC sporting clays. I miss it if I can't review the targets later! And the extra weight on the barrel helps me LOL
Hey Catherine! From the clarification I got was everything except FITASC. FITASC specifically you can not have because the presentation of clays stay around the same and you’re not seeing that much deviation between shots like you are with sporting clays. Until it shows up in the rule book changes showing that it’s allowed under that FITASC section I wouldn’t risk it. Thanks for the comment!
I enjoyed watching the shooting, but had to mute your video. Personally.... I wish music wasn't added to shooting vids, it's not what we're here for. BUT thats just my 2 cents, I could be on my own. :)
Completely understand. Most times in shooting there are breaks that cause people to lose interest and in my experience giving people music to enjoy during those low activity moments keeps their interest. Some of the popular youtube channels that dont play music get 20k views primarly because they are big name shooters and dont need to make their videos interesting and dont take time to "write a story" with each shoot they go to like I do with mine. Thank you for your comment and I hope to see you in future posts!
@@nortonco_shootingsports You have nothing but my greatest respect! Shoot on :-)
You are putting up good scores in the lower classes - take this with a grain of salt, it's just a suggestion. If your goal is to make content and you want to document these smaller, local shoots, that's great. But you are gonna punch straight up through the classes and, when you go to bigger shoots, be in a class you are not competitive in. Think about your punches while your in the lower classes as tickets to win prizes. Go to shoots where they have added payouts to the top five in each class for the main, or winner of each class gets a gun. I saw you went to the State Champs, but didn't compete in the main event - those prelims, 5 stands, and super sportings earn you punches, but don't really give you anything back payout or prize wise. So basically, go to the biggest shoots you can and only shoot the main event. Again, grain of salt - if you're content creation motivated, then this wouldn't apply - but you shoot well, and if you do a little traveling to the big ones you can at least have the potential to win something tangible while your in lower classes. This was the advice I was given from the master class shooters I practice with and it has paid off so far. Also, just like me, your subgauge class is E - so if you want to do content creation without wasting your 12 Gauge punches - think about getting a 20 gauge and shooting those events that won't impact your 12 gauge classification.
I’ll take that into consideration! I just don’t have the money to fork out $300 for just the entry to main events not including ammo. I slept in my truck just for the prelim lol I make do with what I have and let God bless me with whatever else comes along. I appreciate the advice and will consider doing the bigger shoots
I have no idea why it would matter if you were using a shotkam. It’s not going to help you hit the target you are filming. Sure you can go back later and see how you hit it or missed it. Good luck in the future. !
Thanks for the comment! I think their reason was someone could stand behind you with the WiFi connection to your phone from the ShotKam and use wireless Bluetooth earbuds to tell you if you were low or high. But you’re correct! The skill is still within the shooter no matter how much info is given.
Great job Bro....Now let's enforce the 20 sec rule and those shooters wanting to see more than one preview of targets at a station...
😂😂 it’s funny you say that cause I’ve definitely had guys at the East Coast Championship get salty I didn’t throw more than the menu pair listed when I helped as a trapper.
@@nortonco_shootingsports That's great- as you should... I do the same at my local club shoots since the rule change- they go bonkers when you tell them the rules..
Hey man, I appreciate the information this content provided. I had an issue at one registered event where a shooter from another squad complained that I was using my ShotKam. Ultimately, I wasn't completely versed in the 2023 Rules. So I shut my camera down and finished the event. So, thank you for digging into this rule as I'm a huge advocate for what the ShotKam can provide.
Success! I’m glad this video can now give clarity for those past moments and future moments moving forward! Thanks for the comment and I look forward to seeing you in the comments of future videos my friend.
I spoke with Micheal Hampton at NSCA and he said ShotKam's are not permitted for use during NSCA events.
I spoke to Nicki the Assistant director of the NSCA. The section for chapter 7-7.1 is under FITASC. She directed me to this in saying that as long as I’m not using it during FITASC I am perfectly fine. Feel free to reach out to her. I’m going to make a video on it soon. Also, I tried talking to Michael and he was on vacation so I’m curious how you got ahold of him.
@@nortonco_shootingsports I've got another call into Mike for clarification. He didn't specify which event we couldn't use a ShotKam on. I should have asked. If he doesn't' call me back I'm going to start using mine and force the club to show me where it's prohibited. I think Nicki is correct.
@@BrianS_Twin2 Awesome! That’s what this channel is all about for me. Educating people about this sport, spreading awareness and giving them a sneak peek through our lenses what they might expect so they feel more confident it’s something they would enjoy. I appreciate our discussion on this topic sir!
@@nortonco_shootingsports Mike did return my call and clarified it was illegal for FITASC but was consulting with the EC regarding Sporting and would post the final ruling online Monday.
@@BrianS_Twin2 He called me as well and told me the same thing. Hopefully they make a sensible decision and not a blanket ruling.
Where were the kids?
No kids here, just grown men that are kids at heart 🤙🏼
Kidd's Place is actually in Holly Springs. Looks like y'all had fun on the Orange course.
I’m loving the mix of first person, third person, and shotkam style.
Awesome! Thats my goal is to try and give everyone a little bit of everything! Thank you for the comment!
Nice work and good meeting you Justin. Keep at it!
Thank you sir! Very nice to meet you as well.
You need to check the rules on cameras. See Chapter 7 - 7.1 of NSCA
Hello, I have checked the rules on cameras and gotten clarification before starting this venture. It says "The use of micro cameras mounted on shotguns or any artificial aiming device is forbidden." Having gotten clarification, It is anything to enhance your ability to see targets better while shooting more than your natural eye. Hence the "micro cameras" are forbidden. Thank you for the comment and hope to see you in future posts!
@@nortonco_shootingsports Thanks, I've told at events I couldn't use my Shotkam. Can you share who clarified this for you?
@@BrianS_Twin2 did the club have a rule saying you couldn’t or didn’t want you to or did they specifically say because it was against the NSCA?
@@nortonco_shootingsports They said it was against NSCA rules and referred me to the rule I quoted.
Nice place. Was there during the East Coast on Saturday, the biggest thing that was needed was great the Super Sporting on its own course. Having SS , sub , SxS , and pump on the same course makes for too much congestion. Took us close to an hour just to shoot SxS because the bulk of the people were shooting SS.
Awesome! Yea or maybe like time slots specifically for certain subs, SS, pumps, or SxS. Each tournament is going to have its flaws in some way shape or form and hopefully new ways of hosting those events cause change 🤷🏼♂️ but I wasn’t too upset how the tournament was held. Excellent time overall. Wish I could’ve met you!
I’ll be around soon. Haven’t been able to make hardly any tournaments this year due to work. Great job on the videos !
@@mallardcutter7209 sounds good! Next time you sign up for something look me up for squadding options and I’ll join you if I’m free.
Great, informative video! Good job!!
Thanks for the shoutout, buddy! Yeah, I ate too much BBQ myself! 😂
Of course man! That food was WAY too good
Rose Hill is always one of my favorite places to shoot. Anything not in the woods is usually tough there. Great job. !
Yea those long distance shots were brutal. Something I hadn’t experienced much of. Definitely let me know what I need to work on
Nice! Love the background music
It’s tough in the rain for sure. Nothing in the rule book about having someone hold an umbrella over you while you shoot. I keep a big golf umbrella with me in the truck that has came in really handy before. Deep River needs to have at least a few covered stands Keep up the good work. !!
Thank you sir. I’m looking at getting a 4K camera with a tripod and setting that up behind me but not sure yet. I wish I had my own camera crew 😂😂 would make this a lot easier for sure lol
i guess you could call "poke and hope" a technique
I’ve never heard that expression before and it doesn’t sound like a good one. Please explain what you mean and where you see that occurring in the video. Thanks for the comment.
@@nortonco_shootingsports I've heard that before here in the UK, we also call the same thing 'Spray & pray' I;ve only ever heard it used in the context of point your barrels in the rough direction pull your triggers and pray for the best!
@@MartShoots interesting. That is definitely new to me lol
Nice shooting!
Thank you sir!
Looks like they have backed off on the targets and made it a real fun shoot instead of trying to set state championship targets. Good shooting in the rain. You’re doing great !
They had some tough targets at the last shoot. This one had more of rain to contend with. Station 7-8 was tough with one coming over top and a chandelle diving super sharp. Thank you for the comment!
Nice!
Thanks!
Been there lots of times. Not really the same since Bill left. Doug Parsons is great to shoot with. Have someone in your group video you with your phone for a different perspective. I’m sure you have watched Nick Berry, he does a great job with it. Good luck and put up more videos.
Thank you for the comment! I have some really good ideas for future video angles as well as an upgraded GoPro for better quality.
I am a new shooter too. I am trying to get “good enough” to enter an event. Looks like you are off to a great start.
If im honest with you and this is just my opinion. If youre hitting at least 60 out of 100 consistently then I would take advatnage of NSCA's complimentary one year membership to allow you to compete and get your feet wet. Make your goal not to win and just make good connections with better shooters than yourself and learn from them. God's blessed me with some really good people to learn from so far. Thanks for the comment!
You don’t have to be good. Just get registered on NSCA and go to events. You can go to events unregistered just won’t count if you end up doing well.
@@LimitlessClays734 yessir this man’s got the right idea. Thanks for the comment.
@@nortonco_shootingsports for sure man! You going to Kidds this weekend?
@@LimitlessClays734 I am not. I have an event I’m hosting for my church to get my feet wet in the industry of sporting clays so hopefully everything goes well and I can learn a good amount. I go to deep river and Hunters Pointe mainly.
