Yes, it's a recycle of the BotW map and abilities from TotK, but also had, in some manner, a nostalgic throwback to other games. I think it's just an interim game, tbh, a gift from Nintendo, while we wait for the next big flagship. Great video! BoTW created one of the most enchanting and intriguing open worlds ever, and TOTK somehow managed to improve it by breathing even more life into it. Objectively, it is the best! I’d love to see you cover the 2D maps too, considering how the layouts puzzle you in different ways or how the different iterations of Hyrule (& the other locations) stack up.

With the game flipped in the 3DS version, it really did feel like an entirely different game.

Skyward Sword has the worst overworld and travel mechanic in the entire series. Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom have the width of the ocean and the depth of a puddle with tedious copy and paste layouts that are extremely barren. Twilight Princess overworld is pretty empty and Wind Waker sailing puts me to sleep every time. I’ll take Majora’s Mask for the win. It’s overworld, atmosphere, vibes, and layout is simply unique. Not to mention looking up at a giant moon that’s falling out of the sky which you can see anywhere on the map.

Before even watching the video, TotK just mops the floor with the rest of the franchise in this regard. It’s not even close. 😂

Cool video idea, and cool list as well. Honestly I think its hard to choose between MM and TP in this regard. Its insane to me how you can spent hours and hours doing stuff in Clock Town even before going to the swamp for the first time, then you just remember there is a whole game to explore beyond that. Also I like the SS map more then WW, the overworld puzzles are amazing and creative in Lanayru (not to mention the sand sea), the vibes of the areas are cool as well, and there is Skyloft (an awesome city) to boot. Not the best in the series but a little underrated imo

I think if we're using your own criteria, Breath of the Wild beats Tears on the grounds that it's mostly the same but looks better. The Sheikah Towers are definitely more pleasing to see than the Skyview Towers, Other Shiekah tech like the guardians and shrines outdo things like those cube constructs, etc. Plus I'd personally say it's better from the perspective that in context Breath of the Wild's map gave the player a sense of awe that Tears can't do unless maybe you skipped the earlier game.

I think the map in BOTW is actually better than TOTK since the depths and sky islands are really empty and boring overall, meaning BOTW has a better distribution of stuff to do in the space it provides

Good takes, and I agree with most of them. Personally i would put skyward sword over ocarina of time, but Twilight princess being the best linear map is absolutely true. Under appreciated game right there

I really think having BotW and TotK take the top two spots is a little bit like cheating. They’re practically the same map. With some additions obviously for the latter. I know that some fans were critical of the reuse of the map. I was totally ok with it. I just personally wouldn’t separate them on a list like this. The similarities are too great to give them their own entries. So I’m going to choose to interpret your list as #2- Twilight Princess & #1 BotW/TotK 😅 and in doing so, great list!

i think botw ranks above totk simply because the traversal is so much more scaled back allowing the player to actually take in their surroundings, also death mountain is just so much nicer to look at with lava everywhere.
