That's a relatable video for me. Thanks for sharing. I had one year of selective mutism when I was 4 and had social anxiety after that. I only learned what it was quite recenlty (at nearly 35 !) and I think it's really important to understand what is shyness, what is introversion and what is anxiety. At least it helped me a lot to understand what was part of my personnality and what I needed to fix to become happier. I'm doing a lot better since 3 or 4 years. I challenge myself a lot nowdays and as you said, it helps.

I am autistic and in my childhood I dealt with alexithymia , selective mutism, anxiety attacks, and awkward! so , I have a list of childhood trauma and was being bullied , one of them is, when I was in 1st standard I had a very rude and angry teacher and I feared asking her abt going to washroom and I used to hold the pressure until the point when its so painful and out of control , the whole time I used to prepare a script on how would i ask her! and when it got uncontrollable and I dared to asked her she refused me to go each time also the washroom was far far away, and I started crying but she didn't let me go, so I peed on my seat and all the kids ran away, and the principle scolded her in front of whole class for her behaviour and for the first time i felt that someone is there for me and gets me , so I did it for 3 days straight everytime when she refused me to go ..on purpose cuz it was easier than to beg her to let me go that far ... Also I never knew I should pee until its too late ..

I’ve been trying to do shadow work on this experience of selective mutism as a child but yeah idk why I couldn’t talk. It felt like I physically could not talk and the more I tried the more there was like a chokehold on my neck. The more someone told me to talk the less power I felt in having to talk. I let people bully me because of it and the spiraled into more depression and powerlessness. I couldn’t speak up for myself and let people humiliate me and what hurts the most is I let it happen.

I hate being an introvert in the United States where introvertedness is treated like some sort of mental deficit. Makes me wanna move to Japan; maybe I'll fit in better there.

I hate small talk too BUT Unpopular opinion here: I have found its a nice way to eventually segway into something deeper and that can lead to an actual real connection being made. For that reason alone I think small talk can be quite useful.

I’ve had almost 30 jobs in the last 12 years, and moved 7 times in the last 8 years. I can chameleon myself into pretty much any social group and charm them initially, but any time I try to form a deeper connection with someone I realize that fundamentally, I just do not have the same interests or priorities. I’ve had plenty of time alone to figure myself out and come to terms with who I am, but forming genuine connections with others always feels like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, and I always end up feeling just as alone as when I started. It’s less feeling inadequate and more feeling like I’m genuinely in the wrong place all the time

I've sat the MBTI several times over the last 14 years. The first time was for a job application, and thereafter for personal interest and at the request of my ex. It's always been INTJ-A. After deep diving into the meaning of the acronym, I wasn't surprised. All I can say is embrace your personality type and utilise its strengths. Just be yourself and always be true to yourself.

The hardest thing I do as an introvert is getting people to understand how I react to social encounters. People invite me to events and I accept. The day of the event my anxiety takes over and I do not attend. I will stress over missing the event. Then there’s seeing the person that invited me and trying to explain why I did not attend. Usually I lie. Not many people understand introverts. Thanks for sharing your videos. There’s a lot here that I can incorporate into my view of being the way I am.

Quick story. I was once at a graduation celebration and all these old ppl kept coming up to me one by one and chatting. Everytime they asked me a question, I simply answered and left it at that. I wasn't going to ask them a question in return. Also, when they said some random bullcrap, I usually didn't respond. Crap made me feel so unintelligent, but the fact of the matter is I JUST DON'T CARE.

My social anxiety is the reason I'm hooked on Valium and it's HELL. Despite being on Valium i cannot go to a hair salon because i start shaking and twitching, my heart gets all heavy, my neck gets very stiff and it triggers a migraine... It's so awkward because usually the person doing my hair doesn't understand.
