Exploring the Spanish city of Villarreal - [#054]
It was a long journey from Cap Salou to Villarreal but we finally made it. When we arrived late at night, our Couchsurfing host took us to see a Rockabilly show. Afterwards, we went to their private club and drank some imported craft beers while making music.
The next day, we explored Villarreal. I didn't talk much because there was like 6 of us just enjoying the walk.
The following day, we drove 20 minutes outside of Villarreal to try some homemade paella at our host's family home. After lunch, we took a train to Valencia.

Thanks for watching. I'm glad you liked it!
Good footage Zak. Haha when aren't the Parisians protesting. That said; never saw one during my multiple visits there!
@@makingjourneys You're bound to see one next time!
Haha party town of Catalonia - takes me right back to a time my father was sinking cocktails in a bar there and I slept on beaches.
@makingjourneys haha that's funny. We actually never heard of Salou before going. We just found a super cheap Airbnb there so we decided to go check it out. Incredibly beautiful place!
I know the area very well. Assigned there two different tours (1979 through much of the 1980's).
What was your favorite thing about being stationed there?
Arriving in Kaiserslautern (or Germany) and expecting to find a place open on Sunday morning. I spent over six and a half years in Germany (5 1/2 were in K-town) and places are closed more than open. I am surprised you found any place that had anything. Also, breakfast in Germany - baloney sandwiches.
Absolutely. I'm glad we found that little place at the mall. It was a lifesaver haha
I‘ve been living in Kaiserslautern for 16 Years how did I never see that marching band??
I did some research on it awhile back because I was curious. Apparently, they're called Neckarfurzer and they're from Neckarzimmern. From what I understand, they just enjoy traveling around the country playing music. I couldn't find much more info on them.
Oh wow that’s kinda cool
Amsterdam Zuidoost/Southeast + Abcoude + Weesp + Naarden + Bussum + Hilversum + 'S Graveland and the surroundings are nice to bike around as used to live in the neighborhood in 2002-2010 now I am in Indonesia but will return to The Netherlands very soon.
Biking around the Netherlands is an amazing thing to do that we are looking forward to doing again someday! We miss it very much.
I DRANK LOTS OF BEER AROUND SEMBACH. USAF BASE OPERATIONS 1969 TO 1972 SGT. JOHN PELSYNSKI MY OFFICE WAS RIGHT BELOW THE ATC TOWER.
That sounds like a good time. What was your favorite memory of the 3 years stationed there?
Nice view

Spain is such a lovely country. Too bad they are now complaining about over tourism.
Absolutely. I saw that on the news yesterday.

Thanks to your vid I could see my childhood school again!
That's awesome. I'm glad I could do that for you!
The urban installations are broken because they’re all made by the same company called « Decaux » and they have a history of corruption.
Did the french policeman fight innocent manifestant? I'm french, i never went to protestation but I heard that about policemen (it's not exactly policemen but CRS, policeman specialized for protest), i didn't know if it were true.
Yeah, I've heard of that, too. But personally, I didn't see it.
I was stationed at Sembach AB from July 78-80. Loved it, hated to leave. Please do a video of Alsenze and another on Molesheim. There are lots of wineries in those villages, too.
Oh, no! We actually went back to Sembach for another two weeks and explored the area around it (have yet to edit the videos). At the time, I wish I had known about Alsenze and Molesheim because we definitely love exploring new places. I guess we have yet another reason to return to that part of Germany!
Exploring the japanese city of Paris should be very difficult...
Dear friend im sorry that you been in the shithole of Greece, called Kyparissia. a town full of rednecks who will find any way possible to scam you. avoid interaction with locals. most of the them are bad. stay safe
Thanks mate. I like the way you depicted protesters : smiling, singing, dancing ... Unfortunately, for a large part of French population (the part voting far right, i.e. ~30%), those protesters are by default violent rioters wanting to kill police bla bla bla.
I'm glad you enjoyed the positive vibe I captured. It's true, there are lots of views on these protests. Hopefully sharing moments like these can help show a different side
great vid! keep it up
Thanks, I appreciate it! 🙏
I totally get what you're saying. It's sad that the prices make it tough for both tourists and locals to enjoy the city. The effect of the Olympics and Gaudi's popularity really puts things into perspective
Unforgettable place!
Absolutely!

U missed a lot of monuments
We were only there for a day so we'd love to go back and explore more. Do you have any suggestions?

It is nice that it isn't too touristy. Thanks for sharing this.
Absolutely! Did you also visit Toulouse?
@@that_one_traveler Unfortunately not. We ran out of time to visit other places. We were only able to visit Paris, Serris and Versaille.
@Gingster We really wanted to visit Versailles but never ended up there. Next time, for sure.

Super nice!
Living now in Montréal, i miss the diversity of regions of Europe . Every 250 km , the architecture food and even the language can be different. Fun fact , most people do know that 200 years ago people in Toulouse did not speak french ( the language of the north) but occitan a sister langue to Catalan.
Absolutely, that's what I love most about Europe! Never been to Montréal but I hope to visit one day. I didn't know that about the Occitan language. That's really interesting.
@mlomarechal6877 Thanks for the info! It's cool how the languages of oc and oil influenced modern French
Beautiful city, Bordeaux and the work of the architect Tourny, was an inspiration for Haussman and what he did in Paris =)

@@berfo7578 That's amazing, congratulations! And actually, we were going to visit Turkey in August of last year. We had a place to stay. We were going to take care of cats for this lady north of Istanbul. But she ended up lying to us about some things and so we canceled the trip. But we talk about it all the time how we were so close to going and how we want to go so much! Right now, we are in India taking care of two dogs. We will explore more of Asia after but we truly want to visit Turkey so much!

Protest , the best french tradition
Definitely!
Wow. That must have been an experience!
Definitely! Especially since it was a big surprise when we left the Louvre. Got to see the Mona Lisa and join a protest in the same day. Haha what a day!
Crazy
Super crazy!
Lived on the base from 85-90. The most beautiful and peaceful place to be as a child. I will forever love Germany. The comment he made to her "always a perfect angel" was sweet. However, A gentleman should never allow a lady to walk behind him with cars approaching from the rear.
That's awesome. It would be really interesting to grow up in another country. Especially somewhere as peacefully as Sembach. I didn't even think about the dangers of having her walk behind me. You're totally right! Won't happen again.
