Well done my friend, This is lovely music = 6 🪗🪗🪗 Mick.
proud to say this was my Uncle
A great rendition of perhaps my favorite old time folk song
This is the way this song should be sung, with feelings. Sad story the original poem, she died so young and he would go down by himself and think of her. Glad it was set to a melody and will never be forgotten, if it wasn't who would know the poem? He sings it well and perfect instrumental, was looking for a good version and found this man who I never heard of in Canada. Leave it to some one in North Carolina That state is beautiful and infested with great special people and great musicians.. I could move there :-) Andy Griffith show Yeah take me to Mayberry I love their accent also
Porter would have been 97 today-written by Cowboy Jack Clement. He wrote is as Just a Girl i Used to Know.I bought their Greatest Hits album in 1972-one of the best buys i'v ever made.
I love this song so much. ❤
@@yvonneeaster thanks-It’s a beautiful song.
My favorite version of this beautiful song was performed with a young woman singing harmony. Suddenly it disappeared, never to be seen again. There has never been a recording that comes close to that one, although this one is very good!!!
Larry Sparks my hero 👍🎵
Does anyone know who's playing what instrument here?
Hoyt’s son, Ty Scoggins provided me with the list as follows: Hoyt Scoggins, Vocals & Rhythm Guitar; Roy Ledford, Banjo; Wally Clayton. Fiddle and Jake Armstrong, Bass.
@@erwinmge many thanks! I thought I recognized Wally Clayton's fiddle and singing!
Love Rob music keep his brother Steve in u prayers please
Who wrote this song? I wish another artist would take this tune to the top. Anyone who loves these hills appreciates and feels the love this song shows. Also, the picking is great.
I don't know. Rob's copyright records in Washington do not include Carolina Mountains. It's a favorite of mine too. A copyright is listed for: Carolina mountains / music & words by John D'Angelo & Dolores King but the lyrics are not listed. The recording studio was close to Young Harris, GA and closed over 20 years ago. I believe some of the recording group would still be alive but I have no contact information. Thank you James for the kind words.
Beautiful, just beautiful, thumbs up
Wow , this is beautiful!!!! The most beautiful version that l have ever heard, that's for sure!!!!
This album came out the same time the Grateful Dead's album Wake of the Flood did-i could only afford one-i chose this-later on i bought Wake of the Flood. If you hit balance you can hear guitar on one channel and Dobro on the other.
My mother played this on her banjo. I always loved this song. Reminds of Mom and I miss her so much!❤
Love this song very much!! Rob left this world too soon.
Coram Deo billyd
Well done of a very nice song!!
even try to sing, a great first song to learn to sing
love Larry Sparks. everything he does.
I most liked this version, with the instrumentalists and vocals present here. Thanks Larry!!
I believe Alan Munde is the banjo player on this song.
You’re probably right as I don’t know. Thanks a lot!!❤
@@erwinmge You're welcome. I think that Alan played on most of that album. And that Doyle Lawson played most if not all the mandolin on it too.
Now I understand better why my grandfather would get pissed off when I played this with a modern beat . . . but he was a cranky old bastard in any case.
I don't see to good anyway but my hearing is hanging on- thanks for all your post .
Outstanding
I 'm sorry -Too bad the video is blurred.
Sounds great guy. But the picture is out of focus, lol. Thumbs up.
I’m contacting Ty about the problem. Unable to correct the blurry. Thank you for the timely information.
One of the greatest singers ever.
AGREE & Many thanks for your viewing
Amazing song! What is the last line of the chorus?
RIP Sam. He’s my mother’s 2nd cousin (my 3rd I guess)? Never met him, but helped my grandfather pick out his Gibson j50 back in the 60s, and now I currently have it.
Yes, but George is buried in Pasadena California
Had the pleasure of interviewing Mr. Young many times when I was a deejay on KFAL Radio in Fulton, Missouri in 1995. Such a great interview! Thanks for this memory!!

Mr Stamey, Thank You for listening!❤
I have listened to it about 50 times just gets better with age
Tony has the purest bluegrass voice you'll ever hear. Hiis absence among the top producers have nothing to do with the fact that he is without doubt steadily in the top 3 pure, fine bluegrass voices. Lester Flatt stands alone as number one.
The most beautiful song I've heard in a long time!
Grew up listening to tunes like this. Pure down home spiritual ❤️
