During a routine inspection of a hot oil heater in a refinery in Spain, a hotspot was discovered on one of the tubes. This caused coking, which limited the load and production. IGS was asked to install a proprietary Hot-Tek tube wrapping system, which eliminated the hotspot in the radiant tube, preventing further coking and return the furnace to normal operation.

How often should fouling be removed from Texas Towers/VCFEs to prevent a drop in performance
Great question, this is something process engineers will be able to provide input on, all processes are different so some can foul quickly whereas others may foul slower. Typically around 2-3 Turn Around periods warrants a de-fouling

Hi Matt, it can be as quick as a few days to a few weeks, but depends on a number of factors. Do you have a specific application in mind?

Depending on where you are located it could be within a matter of days. In some cases we have mobilized within 72hrs of receiving an order.

What are the most common causes of hot spots?
Hi Daisy, common causes of hot spots include high operating temperatures that compromise the refractory lining and inadequate maintenance, which can lead to localized overheating and damage.
If you got some time, what exactly is this for? I get it's cleaning but cleaning what exactly and why this way?
Air cannons are used in cement plants (silos for e.g.) and power plant SCR systems to prevent material buildup and blockages. They deliver powerful bursts of compressed air to dislodge accumulated ash, clinker, or other materials. Also great at launching t-shirts at sporting events :)

Yep that is when the fun part happens. No potato but I like the idea. The baseball we never saw again, the water bottle went until it hit something and exploded (pretty cool) and with a pumpkin I can seed a pumpkin patch in one blast.
@@chrislanders6594 Do you make those multistage blast valves in the CO2 pressure range? :)
@@samwhite254 Yes we have used CO2 to pressurize the cannon and blast extremely difficult material buildups. It is not the normal operation but can be done effectively.
Seems like there would be a large amount of pressure lost in that type of valve, and the initial pressure wave would mostly blow past and be much lower, shouldn't it be a diverter type valve? Could be good for multiplexing out to just a few lines though, it is a neat way to cut down on air cannons.
Good logical thinking on your part, and we do pressurize the entire piping between multiplier units but this volume has minor effect because we use a larger volume air tank than other air cannons. We have several installed systems with anywhere from 2 to 8 ports that are operating successfully. Haven't wanted to try more than 8 although with a close configuration it would be probably be fine.
@@chrislanders6594 Oh yeah, I guess with the bigger tank you don't have to worry about any of that. That must consume more air though right? But I doubt that matters much unless you are doing frequent blowdown.
@@samwhite254 Yes the blowing frequency does directly affect the air consumption. But my experience is 50% of air cannons that have been in use are leaking some amount of air at all times. With this system you reduce possible leaking air cannons from 8 to 1, so actually it has the potential for less air consumed.
