This happened to me in my sophomore year of highschool 5 years ago. I told my mom I wasn’t feeling well that morning and she told me to try to push through and if I still didn’t feel good later than go to the nurse and she’d pick me up. I felt awful during homeroom and my teacher told me to go to the nurse since I looked terrible and was obviously getting worse. My best friend went with me since “she too wasn’t feeling good” (she just wanted to go home).. Nurse exams both of us. My temp was normal so she sent me back and I had to push through but my bestie got sent home bc her temp was at 99.8. My mom picked me up that day and I told her I want to go to the dr bc I felt awful. We went home, and she got me an appointment later that day since thankfully they had a cancellation. I had no fever but since it was flu season they tested just as a precaution. I will never forget the look on my drs face. She walked in didn’t even shut the door looked at me in shock and said “she has the flu”. She didn’t think I did since I had no fever yet. Fever set in for the first time that night. I felt like I was dying, it was the worst sickness, I barely ate and could barely stay awake.. My best friend went to the nurse the next day and told her “did you know **my name** has the flu”.. nurse got super nasty and said “yeh I heard”. Ended up giving it to 12 kids in my class. The nurses resigned at the end of the year.. she hated me though for the rest of her time there.. especially when she got chewed out by my mom when I broke my finger in school while it was super swollen and bent a weird way- ended texting my mom to pick me up 💀
