    Lady Lavender wasn't insane. She was well aware that the family was only interested in her money ! Luckily, she had her beloved Captain 🦜 and Ivy "Ethel" to keep her company.

    Except there is a reason and the reason is fear. Mabel is only one rung below them on the social ladder and they always need to keep that distinction clear because all of them are just one pay cheque away from becoming like Mabel. To the upper class she is invisible but to the household servants she is the ghost at the feast reminding them of what they could very easily become.

    I worked with someone similar to ivy and she was a senior member of staff!!! The simple minded naivety and black and white views on important matters was exasperating, she would report people for wrong doing without looking at the whole picture.

    • @christinehall6441
      @christinehall6441 12 дней назад

      Reminds me of my gran but she was quiet and humble. Shes had always been a skivvy, she cleaned and acted as companion to a local shopkeeper's elderly, incontinent and extremely rude, bad tempered mother with delusions of grandeur. Gran earned a few shillings a week and was gifted the old ladies stinky old stockings to keep . Grandad abandoned her with 5 children and no maintenance at the end of the war. Seeing the snobbery of the domestic staff towards mabel made me remember grans perpetual poverty.
