Honolulu Zoo Twilight Tour 04/01/2023
Просмотров 112Год назад
Absolutely worth it! We finally made it to the Zoo and it did not disappoint. Keep in mind this was the Twilight Tour after the Zoo's Normal Hours only offered on Saturdays. It was a cloudy day so they weren't trying to hide from the Hot Hawaiian Sun and it wasn't humid at all. Enjoy!

My heart did skip a beat when they released the brakes, and a brief puff of blue ( oil ) smoke hiccuped from the #1 engine…I was expecting a rejected take-off for an engine issue, however it was very quick and ran normally…

Hello to all readers and vidographer. I want to thank you for this video. I was six years old when me and about 40-60 souls boarded our C-121 at Charleston SC International Airport 63 years ago this month headed to Lajes Field AFB on Terceria Island, Azores. One of the nine island ownd by Portugal in this arcapeligo. So November 1960, we noticdd right off the seats faced the famous tails and the walkway was regular Air Force as was the john, water tank for thirst and the cloth drap between the cock-pit and the Steward area. We got about 6-800 miles from the islands and a freak North AAtlantic Hrricaine creeped up on everybody but me, I had been gued to the window watching the water for HOURs and I told my mom and then the stewards (civil service staff male flight attendants) who very kindly did pay attention then reassured me that the whitecaps on the water do thin out thenother times there are too many to even count. But for rel the few white caps that lookedlike a single cloud in the sky here and there to triple the number then I'd see wide swaths of solid white like the top of the water must be boiling ha or the water was reflecting the actual clouds and it wasn't churning water at all. I remember learning then that clouds and churning water do a lot together and not all of it necessarily good for people but it is when you realize if Earth and the atmosphere isn't balanced out and wonderful be glad they know how to defuse pressures built between them. It was about an hour after I said what I saw that the cConnie began to respond to some wind, steady wind. I had to sit back for seat belt on lit up. But I could see the wing we were just behind the right wing and lean forward I saw to he tip of the wing. The propellars were so interesting, it made me think about my bicycle wheel spokes. In 25 minutes the wind rattled against the outter walls and I swear the wind made a sort of shadow on the silver of the aluminum skin. The wings began to show how the engineers had calculated perfectly bc these wings acted like they were alive like the wings of a living bird. The movements were under-exagerated but up, down, forward back - the wings that when a slit in the clouds moved apart randomly and the late day sun rolls out a single beam from above the hole in the cloud and it's in an trajectory that shines across the wing and there's a flash of blindng white light that blocks sight of anything but the sunlights short visit. When the sunbeam was covered by all clouds again the wind went on some sudden tantrum. Pilot came on and told what was up. It was a huge delay timewise, we didn't care our pilot and our C-121 got us on the ground agaain. IT's TMI. I just had to say what an amaing airbird.

Maybe someone can answer this question: I note that all the propellors on this airplane rotate in the same (anti-clockwise) direction. Wouldn't it be better in terms of airplane handling characteristics for two engines to rotate in the opposite direction, preferably on opposite wings?

I too was stationed at Otis AFB from 1962-64. But I was with the 26th ADMS, (Bomarc). I took the big Connies for granted, becaue back then, everything had propellers on them. I loved the summers, but hated the winters. We used to say they shouls have given us overseas pay every time we crossed the Buzzard's bay bridge.

I worked 3rd shift in the 388th MMS maintenance area at Korat RTAFB just across the road from the 121 parking area in 1972 as a 20 year old A1C. We usually finished our buildups early and would climb the water tower to watch the pre-dawn startups and takeoffs. Always impressive with the blue exhaust flames. They always seemed to struggle for altitude though. Most beautiful transport aircraft ever built.

When I was nine years old in 1968 I used to be thrilled to see the big four-engined planes very low over my town headed for Wethersfield Airbase. I remember being rather overexcited one afternoon when my friend and I, playing on the grass in front of his house saw a low flying four-engined plane trail a good deal of grey smoke briefly from a couple of engines. We ran inside to tell his older brother that “a plane was on fire and going to crash!” Sadly (for us) he explained that planes did that from time to time and no, there wasn’t going to be a crash. I can’t remember much about the planes other than they were silver, four-engined and going towards Wethersfield, so American. Connies perhaps? The huge treat for us back then as kids was to go to the big airshows at Wethersfield. It really was like another world, another universe compared to a rural Essex 60s town where the cattle market still ran in the town centre on a Wednesday.
