Kadooment Day 2024
Every year on the first Monday in August Barbados celebrates Kadooment. Kadooment is a huge spectacle where you can find Barbadian (Bajan) men, women and children dressed in vibrant costumes and bedazzled jewels peppered along their faces. Ever since the Covid-19 pandemic the route in which the parade occurs has changed thrice, this year though slightly different, the route still contains many of the customary paths. Today’s vlog begins at the helipad in Bridgetown, Barbados where all groups congregate to kick off celebrations.

Kadooment is the climax of Crop Over. The festival ends with it. It is not the entire festival. Barbados has no carnival. It is a festival celebration of the end of the harvest. Historically, they celebrated the end of the sugarcane season. Each section of the bands represents something symbolic , uplifting, and positive. This is why it is called Crop Over Festival.
I understand this but crop over as it is called has taken every aspect of carnival in it...plus some Bajan artiste have made songs saying carnival..so it can be confusing for others who may not know.
@WonderfullyMade5518 True , that's why they have the opening with the blessing yearly to keep the true meaning in crop over and the teach the generations..then it's time to PARTY ...yeah, yeah!💥💥😆
By definition , Crop Over is definitely a carnival!
Crop over has similar characteristics to carnival. - Parade of the bands, midnight mass, street parties, calypso Finals, bright costumes. It is similar to carnival, but has a different name
@imperator8657 the last part is like one yes. But the entire festival has it's own meaning. Kadooment is the climax of the entire festival.
