At least the trailers for the (2014) Godzilla film was a whole lot better than the TriStar film trailers with the whole Size does Matter nonsense.

The way how Toho Studios did it creating Godzilla's iconic roar was taking a rubber glove and covering it in vaseline or some kind of hand cream or something and rubbing it against violin strings and making recordings of it and playing it both fast and slow I think that's how they did it.
